How to unlock the Well Dressed achievement in The Outer Worlds - Definitive Guide

Alright so all of these guides are kind of split up so I decided to write a more extensive version. EDIT: Make sure to check the comments for some more tips!

There are two clothing pieces you need as you can read from the achievement description:
-A Nice Hat
-Chimaera

A) A Nice Hat can be found outside of Stellar Bay on Monarch. It's in the church just south of the town.
As a reference this is also where the peace treaty will be signed between the Iconoclast from Amber Heights and the people from Stellar Bay. If you are going for the war instead, you can still see where Graham and / or Zora spawn. Go straight to the back of the church to find a skeleton wearing a chique top hat.

B) Chimaera is the reward of a 3 part quest in Byzantinium named "Makes Space Suits, Won't Travel"
1) Wear Spacer, Marauders and Iconoclast clothing.
2) Get 10 primal leathers, 3 Raptidon parts and 1 Mantiqueen gland.
3) Collect a parcel

If you cannot find the clothingshop where Celeste will give you this quest then follow Parvati's companion questline. Eventually she'll want to go shopping here and you'll get a questmarker. If you just want this specifically, this shop is somewhat in the middle of the city centre.

1) the important thing to notice is that it's not about faction colors or brand. It is based on the description. So it should say: ... spacer wear this ... Marauder clothing that etc. I recommend therefore to look for clothing pieces instead of armor pieces. Don't forget that you also need Head gear!
-Spacer --> NOT spacer's choice. Clothing that a spacer would wear. You can get this clothing in Groundbreaker at the armory in the back, not the one selling Moonshaped masks.
-Marauder --> Marauders themselves wear this, I picked this up when going for Iconoclast on Monarch. Some miner clothes will sometimes count for this, just check the description
-Iconoclast --> There is a guy you can save on the broken bridge of Monarch. If you help him out he will become a street vendor outside of Amber Heights. He sells what you need. However if you are not at war with the Iconoclast then you could go into Amber Heights and buy the outfit from the vendor there.

Once you collected the clothing pieces (3x2 total) you can show them off per set. The order doesn't matter for this

2) You can't get these before the quest updates. You'll get the items as quest items. That's also how you can keep count in between. Either Scylla or Emerald Vale will have the 10 primal leathers. The other creatures you can find on Monarch.
(If you haven't completed Nyoka's companion questline this will be a perfect combination!)

3) This is basically just following your questmarker all over town. Once you are done collecting the parcel, make sure to obtain the key and complete the quest by collecting your reward the Chimaera.

Now that you have both items, just simply equip them and your achievement will unlock. You don't even have to leave the menu so you can just equip your own stuff right back

Nice solution, thanks.

Just adding the equipment names that worked for me if it helps someone with the outfit part of the mission:

Spacer:
Water Resistant Wear
Vac Helm

Iconoclast:
Iconoclast Apostle Armour
Iconoclast Apostle Helmet

Marauder:
Cobbled Exo-Suit
Reconditioned Exo-Helmet

Pro-Tip: You can purchase the Mantiqueen Carapice and the Raptidon Flank Hides directly from Sebastion in Stellar Bay. He's in the bottom right of the map.

Another tip for ya’ll: you can buy all the primal leather you need from Stefan Garcia at the Botanical Lab in Emerald Vale.

In response to a couple of comments above:

The parts from Sebastion do count for the quest. I just went to him to buy them and the quest updated after buying each material.

You can only buy from Stefan in Emerald Vale if you diverted power away from Edgewater. I diverted power to Edgewater and tried finding him anyway - he's sitting in the bar, no longer selling items. You can easily find 10 primals with leather in less than 5 minutes just west of the Botanical Labs at least, so it's still quick and easy to get them.

I suppose that if I sold the Nice Hat when I first found it screwed me for that playthrough right ? Or is there a way to get the achievement with another top hat, or a way to get it back somehow ? facepalm

what i was doing wrong with the spacers clothing was finding spacer's choice but it not that if you see the description it has to say spacers only in description. and i did try and get all the stuff she asked for in advance thinking will just get that part done fast and it not work had all what she wanted but just did not work tried selling it to her and everything so you have to go out there and collect it when the mission is active for it to work.

Weirdly, I'm struggling with Marauder clothing. Would always sell it as it's pretty useless compared to other armour, but now I need some I find the RNG drops almost zilch.

UPDATE: If you're having the same issue, go to the marauder river camp on Monarch. Has a helmet if you have 50+ lockpick.

For step B do you mean follow Ellie's quest line? Cause Ellie has a quest line in Byzantinium but nothing for Parvati.

Hey, the Iconoclast Quartermaster (where you buy the Iconoclast armor) also sells Spacer's Armor. I didn't know that because I visited him second, but I thought I'd save everyone else who's looking for this achievement a few minutes.

If, like me, you spent a fair amount of time wandering around the Emerald Vale trying to find Primals, the two best places in the Emerald Vale I found are the River Hideout cave northwest of Edgwater (4 or so here) and the Primal Nest, which is a big pit slightly northeast of the Emerald Vale Community Center (where there should be 6-8 Primals).

Similarly, to easily get both the Raptidon and Mantiqueen drops, land at (or make your way to) the Cascadia Landing Pad, in the far southwestern portion of the map. Exit the town to the north and follow the road toward the Sulfer Pits. Along the way you’ll run into plenty of Raptidons and at least one Mantiqueen.

I was doing it completely wrong by looking at the armour brand name just underneath the item name expecting to see Spacer, Iconoclast and Marauder there. The Iconoclast and Marauder armour I used were all Hephaestus branded, the Spacer goggles were Brook & Olson and the Spacer work vest was Ports of Call. All but the Spacer armour say '[faction] helmet/armour.' as the first two words of the description, just above the Sell Value. Hope no-one else is silly enough to waste as much time as I did looking for the wrong thing!

Thanks Mortis Invictus for the helpful comment ^ with where to find Primals around Emerald Vale

Also I tended to find the Raptidons on the East side of the map on Monarch around the acid pools.

Nice guide! Thank you!

Just wanted to add some details about the experience I had with Byzantium being hostile towards me.

The Board had a shoot-on-sight policy for me by the time I'd collected the animal parts. I was struggling to get to the quest giver and to get the package because if combat had been initiated in the immediate area, no one would talk to me. This was even after waiting for them to calm down and return to their normal pathing, transitioning out of the area and back in.

So, I left my companions behind on the ship (so they didn't kill any needed NPCs by accident), activated TTD outside the tailor's (one of my perks gave me movement boost in TTD) and stealthed over to the tailor behind her desk. Repeated that to exit the shop.

To retrieve the package, I went in the back entrance, on the lower level of the map, next to the door to the maintenance tunnels. Killed the guards, retrieved the package from the storage area, on a table by a large window.

Returned to the tailor, followed quest prompts and boom - got the Chimaera.

Hope that helps someone!

You need to equip 'A Nice Hat' and 'Chimaera' at the same time.

'A Nice Hat': Head to the Stellar Bay Ruins and you can find it on a skeleton inside the Church.
'Chimaera': Complete the quest 'Makes Space Suits, Won't Travel'.To obtain this side quest, head to Byzantium and find Celeste in the clothing store.

"A Nice Hat" - can be found in a Church South of Stellar Bay on Monarch

"Chimaera" - unlocked from a 3-part quest "Make Spacesuits, Won't Travel" found on Byzantium in a Clothing Shop "Jolicoeur's Haberdashery" by talking to Celeste

"Make Spacesuits, Won't Travel" requirements:

1. Wear Spacer, Marauders and Iconoclast clothing.
Spacer {Groundbreaker}
Iconoclast {Amber Heights, Monarch}
Marauder {Emerald Vale, Terra 2}

2. Get 10 primal leathers, 3 Raptidon parts and 1 Mantiqueen gland.
Primals {Scylla -or- Emerald Vale, Terra 2}
Raptidons {Monarch}
Mantiqueens {Monarch}

3. Collect a parcel
*Rewarded "Chimaera" for completing it

Once you acquire both of these items, where them at the same time for the achievement

The achievement is unlocked when you equip the Chimaera clothing and the A Nice Hat headgear at the same time. A Nice Hat is easy to find. The Chimaera armor is acquired as a reward following a fairly arduous side quest.

In anticipation of a side quest that comes later in the game, keep an eye open for three different armor (clothing) & helmet (headgear) combinations. Early in the game, you will come across Marauders. Ensure you have, at least, one Marauder clothing or armor and one Marauder headgear or helmet. The item’s description seen in the inventory screen will clearly state it is a Marauder piece of equipment.

The second combination is Spacer’s clothing and Spacer’s headgear. If you do not come across them as enemy drops or loot, you can buy them from Ike’s Armory in the Groundbreaker Promenade. Do NOT confuse Spacer’s equipment with Spacer’s Choice equipment. In spite of the similarity in name, the two are different. Spacer's Choice is a brand name. We are looking for the descriptive, "Spacer."

An example is Streetware, Basic made by Ports of Call. The description in your inventory screen will read, "Medium weight leather spacer's gear." A headgear example is Enclosed Padded Helm made by Aramid Ballistics. The description on your inventory screen will read, "Lightweight Spacer's helmet. Full coverage for moderate protection."

Finally, you will need an Iconoclast set. If you don’t come across the items as loot or enemy drops, you can purchase headgear and armor from the Iconoclast Quartermaster Vendor just inside the Amber Heights gate. The description in your inventory screen will clearly state they are iconoclast items.

A Nice Hat is available in the OSI Church just outside Stellar Bay on Monarch. Exit by the Stellar Bay north gate—from your ship, head straight around the Yacht Club. Sebastian is standing at a corner of the building. Looking ahead to your left, the gate is in front of you. Exit into the Monarch Wilderness. At the first sign you see, take a right following the sign’s arrow pointing towards Cascadia. The church will be a very short ways from the junction on your left. Enter and go all the way to the back. You'll find a skeleton wearing a top hat. Pick it up. This is A Nice Hat required as part of the outfit for the achievement.

When you get to Byzantium, go to Jolicoeur’s Haberdashery and speak to Celeste Jolicoeur. This is best done after you have started Parvati’s companion quest, Don’t Bite the Sun because you will have a quest marker directing you to Celeste. More importantly, you must complete the task Find Parvati Fancy Clothes before you complete Celeste’s quest Makes Space Suits, Won’t Travel. If you finish Celeste’s quest before you acquire Parvati’s clothes, you will botch Parrvati’s companion quest and miss the achievement for completing all companion quests.

If you are on the Halcyon Path where you tell Udom Bedford (the Halcyon ambassador on Groundbreaker) that you know Phineas's whereabouts, you will arrive in Byzantium before you land on Monarch. If this is the case, it is best to defer talking to Celeste until after you go to Monarch and acquire A Nice Hat and the Iconoclast clothing & headgear especially since you must return to Monarch to complete Celeste’s quest. You can wait until the story takes you to Monarch or you can force your way in by ignoring the warnings and land on Cascadia. From there, make your way on foot to Stellar Bay, Fallbrook, and/or Amber Heights. Once you have A Nice Hat and the iconoclast clothing & headgear set, you can fast travel to your ship and return to Byzantium.

I recommend completing the purchase of Parvati’s clothing before proceeding with Celeste’s quest. When you are ready, Celeste will ask you to model the three clothing and headgear sets—Marauder, Iconoclast, and Spacer. Do so. She will then ask for Mantiqueen Chitin, Raptidon Flank Hides, and Primal Leather. The first two are obtained on Monarch. Follow the quest marker—they are in different sectors. Go to Scylla for the Primal Leather. You might have a quest marker in Emerald Vale but I have not found the primals there to be a reliable source. You might have more luck, but the primals on Scylla should drop the leather readily.

When you return to Celeste with the materials she asked for, she’ll inform you that Halcyon Parcel Service (HPS) is experiencing delays delivering her trademark gold lapel—the garment’s final touch. Follow the quest marker to HPS where you get the run-around. The package is en route to the wrong destination. Follow the quest marker to the address only to learn the lapel has been returned to HPS. Go back to HPS. Go to the window to receive the delivery or pick the lock to sneak in behind the clerk and take the parcel from the counter.

When you return to Celeste, you find the shop in chaos. Your task is simple, though. Ignore the hubbub and take Celeste's Key (a quest item) from her. Use it to enter her office. Take the unique, named armor—Chimaera—off her desk. This completes the side quest Makes Space Suits, Won’t Travel. You don’t have to equip Chimaera now. When you do, along with A Nice Hat you picked up from the OSI Church on Monarch, the achievement will pop.

*MISSABLE*

'A Nice Hat' can be found in a church just south of Stellar Bay once you get to the Monarch Wilderness. At the back of the church you'll find a dead man wearing the hat. Be sure not to sell or destroy it until you get the Chimaera clothing and achievement!
The 'Chimaera' clothing is a bit more labor intensive to track down. You should be pointed to a store on Byzantium during Parvati's Don't Bite the Sun companion quest, and this same person will send you on a bit of a wild good chase for clothing and items. The store is called Jolicoeur’s Haberdashery just in case you don't have Parvati's quest to guide you.

You will need to model three sets of clothing first. Iconclast can be purchased in Amber Heights, Maurader can be looted from nearly any enemy, and Spacer actually refers to SubLight clothing which you can purchase in Fallbrook. The flavor text of the items will tell you if you have the right kind or not. Next you'll have to get three types of items: Primal Leather can be got easily on Scylla, while Raptidon Flank Hide and Mantiqueen Chitin can be looted from enemies on Monarch (or simply purchased from Sebastian Adams in Stellar Bay). Lastly, she'll ask you to pick up an item she ordered. Simply follow the quests markers to get it, and return to her... to find her dead. Loot the key to her office off her body, and head inside to get the Chimaera. Put 'Chimaera' on with 'A Nice Hat' to unlock the achievement.

This trophy is long winded and rather monotinous.

The first thing is to get the Hat.
Stella Bay, Monarch
Use the Stella Bay ruins south exit from the town and head over the bridge and find the Church to the south-west. Down the very end, behind the altar, is a skeleton wearing the hat. Take it.

Next travel to Byzantium, find the haberdasher and talk to her, accept the modelling job. You need to model three suits.

Quest: "Makes Space Suits, Won't Travel"
Spacer's outfit
The two best places to look are Ike's Armoury at the back of the main hall of The Groundbreaker, just passed the Sublight offices and at Fallbrook on Monarch from Duncan Elly, the blackmarket trader you may use for the science weapons locations.

Pieces I used:
• Street wear, Basic (Ports of Call)
• Padded Helm (Aramid Ballistics)

Some people wrongfully suggest that only spacer's choice count, this is bad advice.

Marauders
Use anything that the Marauders of the world drop. The best places to kill them is at Edgewater and Monarch.

I used the mining face mask and the refrbished mining gear dropped by the marauders on Monarch.

Iconoclast
Buy off travelling merchants in Monarch
I got bored of looking for them and killed a few in Amber Heights then looted the armour.

Pieces I used:
• Full Cranial Helmet (Hephistos)
• Anti-riot Gear (Hephistos)

When you return she'll then ask you to collect materials, which is annoying. Assuming you haven't killed MSI, you can buy the last two I'll talk about from Sebastian in Sanjar's office.

Primal Leather - Scylla wildlands
Raptidon Flank Hide - Monarch wildlands (North) or Monarchs Sulphur/acid pits where they like to gather.
Mantiqueen Chitin - Monarch wildlands (West)

Return to Celeste.

She'll ask you to pick up a parcel (for goodness sake). Go to the post office and she'll tell you it's out for delivery. You'll find a notice saying it's gone back. Go back to the post office and collect it.

Go back to Celeste.
.

Loot the key and let yourself in to her office, it is on her desk.

Wear both the 'A nice hat' and the 'Chimera' together for the trophy.

Thanks for the guide, it was a great help! smile

You can also buy Iconoclast armour set from the merchant in Amber Heights, Bronson. He can be found to the left of the entrance, behind the 'Supplies sign.

Detailed video guide .
The hat can be found in an abandoned church on Monarch, south of Stellar Bay.
Next, you need to visit the fashionable boutique Jolicoeur in Byzantium. Its owner recognizes you as a stunning model and will give you a quest: show up to her in three outfits: marauder, iconoclast, and cosmic.
Cosmic : Casual clothes (option 1) and Space Aviator Goggles . Sold by Ike Christiansen on Pioneer.
Marauder : Various variants, such as Modified Power Helmet and Refurbished Miner Suit . Dropped from marauders near Edgewater.
Iconoclast : Full skull helmet and Leaded armor. If you haven't killed the iconoclasts, you can buy it in Amber Heights. If they were all cut out, then they can be found in the ruins near Stellar Bay.
When you show up to Jolicoeur in all your outfits, she will need one more. To do this, you need to bring Primordial Skin , Beetle Chitin and Raptidon Side Skin . The last two items in the required quantities can be bought from Sebastian Adams in Stellar Bay (remember, you took your secretary to him?). If you cut out a city, then you will have to farm items in the vastness of Monarch. Leather is obtained from mobs in Emerald Vale and Scylla.
But that's not all! To complete the costume, you need Jolicoeur's signature gold badge, which (surprise!) is stuck somewhere in the shipping company. I'll have to run.
After returning the package, pick up the Chimera costume and wear it with the Hat . You are gorgeous!

If you have managed to ruin your reputation with the college, then the NPC issuing the quest will attack the main character and you will not be able to take the quest for a costume in Byzantium

And you need not just one copy of animal parts (with the exception of beetle chitin), but 10 primitive skins, 3 skins from the side of a raptidon.

A rather difficult trophy for one simple reason - if, while completing the Sublight quests, you opened fire on soldiers of the VOK corporation at an abandoned station, then the path to Byzantium is closed for you. Namely, this is where you need to go to complete the quest.
1) A good hat is lying in the church ruins near Stellar Bay on Monarch (go south).
2) In order to get the Chimera costume, you need to fly to Byzantium and go to a fashion boutique near the estate area. Take a task from the character, during which you will need to find three sets of armor (iconoclasts, marauders, cosmic ones, some of them can be easily bought on the Monarch or "Pioneer", or knocked out. The main thing is that by cosmic armor we do not mean the products of "Simply Space", namely the clothes of spacemen (read the descriptions!))
After this, on the same Monarch you can immediately purchase from Sebastian 1 beetle shell chitin and 3 raptidon side skins. After this, on Scylla you need to collect 10 pieces of leather (not skins) of primitives and bring everything to the store on Byzantium. Then you will be sent to receive the parcel, there is nothing complicated there. At the end of the quest you receive the “Chimera”, put it on along with the hat - woo-a-la, your achievement.

In my case, the skin from the primevals began to fall only when the corresponding stage of the quest was activated. I wanted to collect it in advance, before taking the quest, I killed 3 packs of mobs, 0 leather, after taking the quest from the same 3 packs of mobs, 10 leather. This leather is stored in the “Tasks” inventory tab, not the “Junk” tab.

Please note that the trophy is MISSABLE!!! . I was convinced of this from personal experience when, towards the end of the game, having received the “Chimera”, I began to look for “Good Hat”. To my deep regret, after watching a couple of video tips, I came to the disappointing conclusion that I managed to sell the “good hat” in the middle of the game, not realizing at that time that it was necessary for the trophy. And since this hat is the only one of its kind, I flew with the trophy. I think everyone should be warned about this. You won’t be able to sell “Chimera” by accident, which can’t be said about an ordinary, at first glance, hat. Be careful, friends!
