Note: You have to personally control the flak gun and take out the aircraft.
Warning: After you capture the third building, make sure to save your game before you approach the hill where you place the flak gunner. If you fail the objective, you will have to restart the mission or reload your saved game.
On mission 1 "Beachhead", after you capture the third building, drive towards the hill, and take out the enemies.
After you take out the enemies, place a 40 mm AA gun nest on the indicated green target. To drop a 40 mm AA gun nest, press Y to bring up the destruction and demand menu, select the machine gun nest icon between the 4 o'clock and 5 o'clock position, press Y to select the flak gun, and then move and press A to place it on the ground.
Next, press X to take control of the flak gun. Shoot down at least five enemy planes as they approach.
It is fine if you miss a couple planes because they will turn around.

I am doing like you said on this mission. However, for some reason, I am not being given the option to drop a flak gun at all in the drop wheel after hitting Y. Got any advice?
As of 4/23/20, I am still not being given this option in this mission. Are there other opportunities?

Ok here is the only thing I can think of - you drop a flak gun by hitting Y in the drop wheel when you select the .30cal machine gun nest that you previously dropped by hitting A. Do you not have the option to press Y?

After you pass the second beach on level 1 you will need to build an ant-aircraft emplacement. Using the gun, you will need to shoot down a minimum of 5 enemy planes.
