How to unlock the Powerful Jot achievement in The Plucky Squire - Definitive Guide
*MISSABLE*
As of the writing of this guide, this achievement is missable due to a bug with Chapter Replay where Martina the shopkeeper doesn't show up in any chapters. This makes it impossible to purchase any missed upgrades via Chapter Replay. If you don't buy them all by the time you reach Martina in Chapter 9, you have to replay the entire game as of now.
Jot's abilities are upgraded at Martina the merchant, and they are purchased with Bulbs, the main currency in the game. Bulbs are obtained from destroying bushes, defeating enemies, and hitting trees, and you will want to always do all three of these things on every page to make sure you always have enough Bulbs when you reach Martina in each chapter.
It's important to note that you must buy everything from Martina for this achievement, even the badges that give new attacks. After buying a badge, you then are able to buy damage upgrades for that badge. For example, you need to buy the sword throw attack badge and spin attack badge so that you later have the ability to buy the damage upgrades for both. Each attack type (base attack, throw attack, spin attack) has three damage upgrades to purchase. The three levels of upgrades always cost 40, 80, and then 120 Bulbs.
In my experience, there are just enough Bulbs in the game to be able to buy everything (all the upgrades for this achievement and all the Art Scrolls needed for Art Collector (100G)) from Martina. I personally was worried about not having enough, so I spent some time grinding Bulbs. I didn't keep track of exactly how many I grinded out, but if I had to guess it would be somewhere around 100. I completed the game with 140 Bulbs left over, meaning it's pretty tight. As a result, I highly recommend spending a bit of time grinding Bulbs, just to be safe.
In terms of grinding Bulbs, there is only one way to do it. The game auto saves when you enter a new page. When you die, Bulbs are retained but bushes and enemies respawn. So, what you want to do is wait until you get to a page with lots of bushes and enemies. Destroy all of the bushes for Bulbs, hit the trees if there are any, and kill some enemies, then let the enemies kill you. You'll respawn at the start of this page with all enemies and bushes back, but also you'll have kept all of your Bulbs you got. If you wait to do this on a page with lots of bushes and enemies, you can easily get 10+ Bulbs per run, making it relatively quick to grind out 100 Bulbs or more, just to be safe.

To upgrade all Jot's abilities you will need 1400 bulbs. If you slash every bushes, hit every trees, etc.. you will get enough bulbs to upgrade everything, but, if you want to be sure, you can grind bulbs in chapter 6. In the room with the giant rat's cave and the sentence "here was a big wooden block", collect the bulbs by slashing the bushes in the center, bottom right corner and upper left corner, then go towards the cave and get killed by the giant rat: you will restart the room but you will keep all the bulbs collected. Continue to collect the bulbs and restart the room by killing yourself thanks to the rat until you feel "sure" that you can upgrade everything.

You can definitely end up with enough bulbs by the time you get to the final shop without having to grind, but you really do need to make sure that from the very first page of the game to the last, whenever you are in the book, you slash every bush / tree / crate / barrel, as well as every enemy, and when you are outside the book you find all the bulbs hidden on the desk (as well as every enemy etc). I didn't grind at all, but I made sure I cleaned up every page / desk section and ended the game with only a measly 24 extra bulbs after buying everything from the shop (including scrolls), so it's probably worth spending 10 or so minutes grinding using the above method, just to be sure that you'll have enough bulbs for the last few purchases (including the scrolls too).

I didn't grind at all, but I made sure I cleaned up every page / desk section and ended the game with only a measly 24 extra bulbs after buying everything from the shop (including scrolls - which I suppose you could not purchase if you are going purely for this trophy).
As such, it's probably worth spending 10 or so minutes grinding a few extra bulbs, just to be sure that you'll have enough bulbs for the last few purchases (including the scrolls too).
In order to grind, all you need to do is find a page with several breakable objects that spawn bulbs and at least one enemy (that can kill you). Grab all of the available bulbs from the breakable objects, then die to the enemy. You will Respawn on the page with all of your previously collected bulbs and be able to re-break all the bulb spawning objects once again.

In the release version there is no way to buy missing skills through repeating chapters and you will have to start the game over again, I strongly recommend squeezing everything out of bushes, mobs and trees as much as possible, you can farm on trees by leaving the location and returning back

I didn't have to farm any additional bulbs, I just followed the story and collected everything from bushes, trees and enemies, buying all the scrolls along the way. I bought the last upgrade on Chapter 9 and still had 18 bulbs left in stock.

I hit all the objects, and at the end there were still 70 light bulbs left.

If you are still afraid that you might not have enough bulbs, then in Chapter 6, where you need to pass by a huge rat, you can farm a little. If you cut down bushes and go out and back into locations, they will not appear again, but if you die from a rat, then all the cut down bushes on this page will appear.
