How to unlock the Excalibur achievement in The Riftbreaker - Definitive Guide

This is an endgame weapon and must be researched (downloaded technically, at your communications hub, you can build extras to speed up downloading) and then constructed at your armory (also available in your start menu).

Mods drop randomly (though certain gear ups the odds), especially from the “?” Discover features you will find on maps. Certain Mr. Riggs gear (also researched for the best versions).

The sword and mods are color coded red. Once you have all 3 of any mod type you can save your game, build the sword, apply the mods (and maybe equip it). As soon as it pops, reload, as you may not want to waste 2000 Rhodenite on the sword, nor your best mods.

EDIT: If you are having trouble getting mods.

Discovery features (the ones that you hold X on and get swarmed by enemies) have an extremely high mod drop rate. On high threat maps they have pretty good odds to drop nice mods. So use radars to find as many as possible and warp back to base to do as much killing as possible when your base is under attack.

Also enemy nests have a very high drop rate (I literally got two red mods from 3 nests while typing this).

Use the best Sonic Sensors and Energy Sensors you can craft in Mr. Riggs as both increase mod drop rate. With Red versions for both you have 100% greater chance. I’m unsure if this affects base guns so do as much killing as possible during sieges.

My loadout is normally Shotgun with Extra Spread, Extra Range, and Splash Damage (in that order) and Small Machinegun (any high fire rate weapon will do) with Piercing, Homing Bullets, and Cluster Projectiles. I’m sure there’s better combos but I kill thousands of enemies per siege. I get 2-4 Red mods per hour like this.

This is the very last achievement I need. I can't seem to find any more red weapon attachment mods. I've only found a single one and no matter what I do no more red will drop. I've been playing for hours looking for more. I have all the right attachments to help mod drops but nothing ever pops up do you have any suggestions?

Having the same issue. Finished the campaign and had 1 red mod for the sword. Any tips?

Thanks for the tips. I already had 4 x energy sensors equiped. The discovery features that you first mentioned only every drop resources or decorative items like statues/plants/lamps.

Also the nests are not dropping any mods for me.

What difficulty are you on? I went on normal but wondering if higher difficulties increase drop rate significantly?

I’m on normal. Are you scanning everything, especially nests? And picking up the green DNA? The higher rank you get in your journal the better the drop rate for those enemies. I got 6 more last night in about an hour of farting around. Discovery features most often do drop decorative items and movement mods, but they still have a better than average chance to drop high end mods. Clearing a map of them nets me maybe one and a couple of purples.

I’m on whatever the default difficulty is for Campaign, I didn’t change anything.

I really wish I knew what I was doing differently, last 30 minute play session (it’s been awhile) I got 3 to drop, 2 off swarms attacking my base and 1 off one of the resource nodes.

I’m glad to hear you got it though.

all of @TymanTheLong comments seem right to me.. i received many reds BUT it's a little grindy because as @SimonG597 said, not all of the ones you find even go in the sword but eventually you will get all three of them

I got it in the endame quite easy in a high threat desert area. The mods were in the waves and the "above earth nodes" (those that trigger waves of small enemies). The enemies themselves were pretty easy, much easier than the waves in the main base.

What makes it kinda tedious is, that not every mod fits in the sword. I got plenty of "reduced ammo cost" and "rate of fire" mods.

Playing on normal.

This was my last achievement and I went back to my save before starting the rift back to Earth. I had my 4 slots filled with the highest energy sensors I could craft. I basically bounced between the different outposts on the campaign and survived the different swarms that would attack. My luck was bad on the nests that would pop up. I tried to save and reload, but could never get a red mod to pop up. Just wanted to add my two cents as it was frustrating to wait for something to pop
