How to unlock the Hell on Wheels achievement in The Saboteur - Definitive Guide
The races aren't too difficult, but if you want to ensure you win the two freeplay races (not the time trial) easily grab a car and drive stopping well short of the yellow circle. Get out and run to the driver side of any of the other racers. Press Y to get in but DO NOT get in the car. Instead press the control stick away from the car. The driver will get out leaving an empty car. Repeat this for every car. When there are no racers left in the other cars, get in one and move it to the yellow circle (some racers cars are already on it so the race will start once you get in). You will be able to race at your leisure against no opponents. On the second race (excluding the time trial), the drivers are more difficult to get to, so take your time to ensure you don't enter any of the cars. Never enter on the passenger side. Also, make sure when you leave the starting line, you do not injure any of the standing drivers because the race will automatically end. After the first lap, the drivers disappear and only the cars are left. Hope this helped.

Interesting glitch - although I would add that the races aren't particularly hard to beateven when you have competition!

They really aren't difficult at all, but the second race can get annoying with the explosive barrels if you get some unlucky bumps. I messed around a bit with it and died a few times to see what would happen. It's actually pretty amusing to see all the cars that have you hijacked over the course of a couple of starts pile up at the starting line. I couldn't help but chuckle when I saw over two dozen empty cars crammed at the line with other drivers futilely rammed forward and backwards in the cars around them.

There are five races in the game, two are plot related and unnecessary for this achievement, the other (required) ones are:
- One qualifying race, that is available near the Zone 2 safe house which usually has the initials [Ma] near it; this will become available about half way through the game and you will receive a note, I believe from Skylar, that there is a race organizer you should meet with. Completing this race unlocks the Freeplay Races. It is not extremely difficult, just get as decent a car as possible.
- Two Freeplay races, these appear on the world map as checkered flags
-- Freeplay race one appears after you complete the above qualifying race, it will be located near the extreme South East of the map. This will unlock Skylar's Drake car, which you can use for the next mission.
-- Freeplay race two unlocks after you have completed race one and in my first game I had to proceed till I was near the end of the story. Race two will be located near the North East of the map, with the same checkered flag symbol. This will unlock the Silver Claw.
*** I will double check the timing and car selection, please feel free to contact me or comment with notes/correction. ***

There are a total of three races: the two country races and the grand prix. Pick your favourite racer and get to it. If you are having trouble with these races, hijack all your competitors before pulling up to the start line. You will then have the track all to your self but in truth, the races are easy enough anyway. The races are marked with a flag icon and become available at certain points in the story.
Note: If you enter a country race while wearing a disguise, you can get both the No Witnesses and Master of Disguise trophies. Nice and easy.

About midway through the story, you will start seeing races appear on the map. Some of them are story related, but the last two are not, shown on the map as flag. These races are very easy provided you have a fast car. I personally used the Aurora as the nitrous boost allows you to explode past certain straight sections. Regardless, once you win the last one, ‘Country Race 2’, the achievement will unlock.

The first two races will be available in the middle of the story, and the last one at the end of Act 2. You will receive the achievement when you complete the second city race.
