How to unlock the Pyromaniac achievement in The Sims 3 - Definitive Guide

After getting the Firestorm power, I straight away uploaded a new game in moved into the Landgraab Household, It took a while to start with, The main fireball tends to land in the kitchen more often that not. Luckily enough none of the Landgraabs are Brave, both adults will just scream at the fire and the child will run out and faint somewhere.

WARNING... Don't let any of the Landgraabs die, the Grim reaper will appear and all your hard work burning will be brought to a halt. So make sure you know where all 3 of them are.

Firstly sell the fire alarm, or you'll have the fire department ruing your achievement attempt.

In the kitchen I brought a lot more counter tops, most expensive ones and then placed Laptops on them. I did try other items but Laptops seemed to burn better, (please suggest in comments if there's better items to place)

If the fire doesn't start in the Kitchen you can always initiate the Power again, Luckily its only 15 Points.

This also is a great chance to get the "But it's Inflammable!" achievement, Malcolm caught on fire at one point when I was trying to get this and got the achievement.

Happy Simming :D

There usually pretty easy to find, try visiting different places, the Landgraabs mansion usually has some outside on the road.

cheers about the tip for rocks, its what im after!

will deffo try this method when i unlock the power, sounds funny!, is it possible to say, save 100 karma (easy early game) and let one die? if fire storm is 15 points you could use divine intervention (75) and revive?

i dunno, i'll try and let you all know.

Got it on my first try. I tore down inside walls, sold furniture, added 8 foosball in the kitchen then sprinkled foosball tables with my remaining money. Great solution.

Great solution. I trapped all 3 sims in a makeshift room outside before I started the firestorm, so I didn't have to worry about any of them getting killed.

This worked perfectly and, as noted in the solution, one of the three caught fire for me so I netted the "But it's Inflammable" achievement as well. Thanks!

But remember when the grim reaper comes, all the fires are put out... you could try that after the fire. Would probably be easier to get one of them into the pool and build a wall around it ;)

I loaded up the kitchen with the expensive desks and laptops as in this solution, but then I also filled the walls with the most expensive paintings available. I then walled off the room, removed the doors and smoke detectors so there was no interference. Worked like a charm. Had over 33K damage once the flames died out.

Got it on my first try using this method:

- Buy the empty lot.

- Build a room that's about 15x15.

- Fill it with as many Foseball Tables as possible (Buy - Entertainment - Sports), each costs $6,250. (I had bought 9 and got a check for $15,500 or close to it, so add more and rugs, they help a bit)

- Fill your Karma Powers to 100.

- Use all the points to raindown as many Firestorms as possible.

Via Lushion Rudd, "To get an empty lot go to the town map, then click on your current house. You will see the option to replace house. Upon replacing the house you will be given a list of housing options, one being an empty lot."

Thanks.

Where is this Empty lot you speak of? I didn't see any? I had to buy a small lot and delete the house to make it empty :P

It's been forever since I played this, so I really don't remember if there was one or if I maybe downloaded it (probably downloaded it) and loaded it in.

First, wait until you're up to 100 Karma points.

Next, prep your house as follows:
1. Remove as many interior walls as you can. Walls act as firebreaks. The fire is more likely to spread throughout the house the fewer walls there are. This makes it unimportant where the fire actually starts.
2. Fill up your house with expensive stuff that burns easily. Expensive beds are a great choice. Wooden tables, bookcases, chairs, etc. are all good. Paintings and curtains are also good, especially since there are some expensive ones to choose from. Computers and electronics do burn, but I tried this achievement several times by stocking up on computers and never got it, whereas I got it easily with beds (specifically, the slave double bed) and paintings.
3. Leave plenty of floor space also. Floor space is very important. A meteorite won't start a fire if it hits an object; you'll only get a fire if the meteorite strikes the floor. Also, fires spread only via the floor.
4. Sell the fire alarm.
5. Get your Sims out of the house.
6. Remove all exits. (I had one attempt at this achivement ruined by a brave maid.) No one gets in.

At this point, do a save. Then start using the Firestorm power. You can use it up to 6 times if you have a full Karma meter. Hopefully, you'll get more than one good fire going. It will take a while for the fire to run its course. In that time, if midnight rolls around, you may get enough Karma points to use Firestorm again. Do it! (This ended up being a key factor for me winning the achievement.)

If the fire burns out and you don't get enough of a payout to unlock the achievement, reload your save and try again.

Good luck!

Got this achievement and the "Not Dead Yet" achievement using your method. Mrs. Landgraab cornered herself and burned to death. You get a positive vote from me.

I waited until I had a nice chunk of change, made a new save and moved my sims to the small house on easy street (1 bedroom 1 bath) then did these steps. *Quick note the reason I did that house is since it's so small you don't run as large of a risk of the fire just going out because it can't quickly get to something else to burn. The bigger the house the harder this will be, I tried MANY times in some larger houses and I couldn't pack the house as tightly (because of the item limit) and so the fire would just put itself out.*

1. Wall off the sims, so that they can not do anything (I didn't have to worry if any had the brave trait, and they won't call the firefighters unless ordered to. Just put them together somewhere outside and build them in

2. Get rid of of inner walls, all doors, and the roof. Also sell everything that comes with the house. Make super sure not to have a fire alarm

3. Made sure all the floors are carpet, it's been unconfirmed in large as to whether this helps but I personally noticed fires spread faster with it.

4. Filled the house with tables (in the 450 range) as close together and as packed as possible. I just used dining tables because smaller ones won't allow for step five

5. Put computers on all those tables, the most expensive laptop and each dining table should hold two

6. Fill any empty space with floor lamps that I could.

7. Hit the karma power and watched it burn.

This is a bit of a over kill method, I did this and let the house burn for hours (in game) more then 75% of it burnt (before I called the firefighters because it just didn't want to go out) and I got a check for over 80,000. The achievement won't pop until you've actually put the fire out, which it will do naturally or if you get bored and you are sure you've hit it have a sim call the firefighters.

Yes it's over kill but it ensured that I got it quickly and without having to try more than once.... After I got the achievement I just reloaded a different game and went on my way lol.

Quickest way I got this achievement was to use the Landgraab family (rich family with lots of § for you to use).
1) Make them move into one of the smaller houses.
2) Move the 3 of them into a room and remove the door (sell it).
3) Modify the rooms slightly making the burning room contain- carpet, expensive tables and PCs (laptop). I saw the carpet catch on fire the quickest.
4) Make SURE the firealarm is sold- Otherwise your plan will be foiled.
5) Have a good amount of Karma power to use (I had about 75pts) then allow the room to be set on fire with Firestorm power.
6) Hit fast forward and wait for achievement to pop.

To do this I found its best to start new game using the landgaarb family. ( I think they're called that), anyway its the family in the house at the very bottom right hand side of the map. Once created, go to build & buy, delete top floor then on lower floor delete all interior walls/doors sell furnature (by now you should have a ton of money they already start at 75,000 simeloneons) then carpet it throughout and buy as many football tables as you can afford or fit into the now large room, position them equally as you can. Then save your game. Then use firestorm karma and wait and watch as the fire spreads. 4 football tables is enough for the insurance amount but just let the fire burn out. Be warned It can glitch! Sometimes you do it and the trophy doesnt show (it happened to me more than once) if this happens just quit and re load game and repeat firestorm karma. Good luck!

Easy Pyromaniac Achievement!

I found this achievement way easier then a lot of people think. What I did was go to buy mode, then to decor and then miscellaneous decor. Once i was there, I scrolled to page 4/4 and bought the very last item on the page which was "The F-Class Hunter-Killer Jet" Decoration Statue for $75,000 Simoleans. I know the price is a bit steep but trust me this is the easiest way I found. Once you have done all that you can either keep your house and try using the firestorm karma power to set it on fire with the house still on the lot which is possibly one of the more harder ways or you can bulldoze everything and place one on a empty lot. If you place one on a empty lot it's easier because it will most likely set on fire quicker because there's no other conflicting items in the way and the firestorm is more likely to set on fire instead of just putting it's self out almost the instant it touches the surface. Make sure to put a wall around your Sims with the statue or statue's depending on how much simoleans you got to stop the Sims from escaping or for an easier way just go into options and turn free will mode off which should say puppet mode which means they can't move without your say so. Once it's burned, you can then call the firefighters and they will try to proceed to put the fire out which they can't because there's a wall blocking the way but they should say something like, "We can't reach the fire, let's hope it burns out soon". It should then burn out almost instantly within a few seconds and once that happens they should give you a insurance check of $31,000 or more like they did with me, which is way more then the intended $15,000 for the achievement. You should also complete a challenge at the same time which is worth 100 Challenge Points!

I struggled with this achievement for a long time trying to burn sofas and beds and other things that seem flammable always getting to around 10,000 then changed my game after earning around 200,000 and having the desired karma ability i filled my house with the most expensive dining room tables leaving a couple of spaces in between each to allow for the fire to spread then fill each table with laptops make sure u have full karma then send ur sim into town so he don't get in the way or dead save before you begin just incase Then start burning keep using the power every so often to keep the fire burning and you should easily earn enough my fire burned for 2 days game time and i earned 54,324 in insurance payouts

To unlock the firestorm karma power you first need to complete the challenge "Fun for the Whole Family!" To complete this challenge you'll need to collect 5 rocks. Rocks can be collected in two ways, one is by finding them while you're exploring the catacombs and the other is by looking around yourself outside of buildings, houses and in parks. Look on the grass around areas and you'll see black chunks on the ground, those are rocks. You won't be able to find all five in one area so travel around to different sections of the maps and look for rocks.

Now that you've unlocked the ability to buy the Firestorm Karma power go ahead and buy it with your challenge points by pushing and going to the challenge screen. This power will cost you 100 challenge points. Now that you've bought it SAVE YOUR GAME, I'd hate you lose your hard earned items for this trophy. Now that you have it let your Karma points build up to 15 so that you can use the power. If you have a fire alarm sell it and dismiss any repair workers or maids because they will extinguish the fire. Use the Karma power and watch your house's items burn down to nothing. Make sure that you have at least $15,000 worth of stuff in your house because once the fire is gone you will be paid for all of the damages to your items. You will get less of an insurance check if your house is more vulnerable to fire. When you're in the build and buy menu you'll see a bar on the left side of the screen showing how prone your house is to a fire. Make it so that you have a lot of items in the house but also have it so that it's just under the point where the flame is lit up on that fire bar. What I did was I bought a lot of expensive items and put them really close together so that if one caught on fire they all caught on fire. When you get the notice after the fire that you've received the insurance check of at least $15,000 you'll get the trophy.

You will first need to purchase this karma power for 100 challenge points. It costs 15 karma points to use. Here is a great guide on how to get this achievement: Guide. You will need $60,000 to $200,000 for this method to work. It may also help to put carpet all over the building to help spread the fire. You could do this with the brave perk, but it works better without it. Remember you can change your traits with the "Mid life Crisis" lifetime reward which costs 20,000 happiness points to use.
