How to unlock the Green Thumb achievement in The Sims 4 - Definitive Guide

Gardening can be leveled up a variety of ways.

A good start is to read gardening books till you're about level 4. but you can also set up a row of bonsai trees and keep cutting them, or have a set of planters in your yard where you grow some plants.

At level 4 you unlock the ability to talk to plants, an interaction that fills both your social need and your gardening skill. You can either spend you day doing that or simply continuing reading and tending plants.

The biggest help I found was at level 8. Once you reach this level, you can regrow bonsai trees instantly for $50. Simply cutting and regrowing over and over seems to grow your skill a might faster.

if just looking for the achievement itself, the sims 4 community has families you can download from the gallery that already have maxed out gardening skill (or just about to reach it), so that is the quickest option available

To do this, you can either buy all 3 Gardening books (which'll rank you up to level 9) and/or create a garden of plants (buy seeds off the internet)
If you use the 3 books, you can only level up to level 9, so you will have to grow plants as well.

To unlock the Green Thumb trophy in The Sims 4, you will need to reach level 10 in the Gardening skill.

The quickest way to reach level 10 in the Gardening skill is to buy the three Gardening books which will bring you up to level 9, and then build some planters/bonsai trees in your garden and tend to them to gain the final rank. At level 8, you are able to regrow bonsai trees instantly for $50. Cut the trees and then instantly regrow them to gain the final level the quickest.

Once you reach level 10 in the Gardening skill, the trophy will unlock.

The Gardening Skill is not required for any Careers. To level it up, you can read books or tend to any plants/crops in your yard. Tending your garden increases your skill faster than reading so it’s recommended you do that for this skill.

Your skill with increase faster if you have the “Focused” Moodlet active. It’s recommended that you paint a “Focused Painting” and hang it on the OUTSIDE of your house, near where you are Gardening. To create one, you will need a Chess Table and an Easel. “Play Chess” at the Chess Table to gain the Focused Moodlet. Once it’s active, you will have the option to “Paint a Mathematical Diagram”. Once it’s complete, open your Sim’s inventory, hover over the painting, and press to pick it up. Place it on the wall outside. If it’s close enough, you’ll have a Permanent Focused Moodlet while you tend your Garden.

If you are not able to get a Painting close enough, here are a few more ways to get the Focused Moodlet:

  • Play Chess
  • Ponder Moves at a Chess Table
  • View a Focused Painting
  • Play Video Games
  • Study a Book

Once you have become Focused, keep tending your garden until you reach Level 10 (Max level).

Side note: Gardening does cause your Hygiene bar to decrease much more rapidly. If you don't have any of the "stay clean" traits, you'll need to keep an eye on this to make sure it doesn't go red.

If you are completing Aspirations for aspiration points, you want to work on Nature - Botanist one while leveling up this skill.
