As a Young Adult Sim, you will start off with 4 Traits that are chosen during the Create a Sim part of your new game. From there, traits are earned by spending Aspiration Points.
There are a lot traits available to buy and many others rewarded from completing Aspirations. The potions will not count towards this trophy, they must be the permanent traits.
You get more points by completing the Aspiration goals than you do completing Whims. Since you can work on multiple Aspirations at once, it’s recommended you use those if you want to try and do this legitimately. By the time you have completed all Skills and Careers to Level 10, you should have more than enough points to get the traits needed.
Alternatively, you can speed this up a great deal by putting in codes that will automatically grant you the purchasable traits. To put in a code, hit , , , and at the same time. A green bar will appear in the top left corner. Hit to open up the keyboard. Enter each code and hit all four buttons again to confirm. You can only do one code at a time, though. Pick any [8] codes listed in the spoiler in the Roadmap. Once you have accumulated 12 total (your original traits + the new ones), the trophy will unlock.
