How to unlock the Triple Play achievement in The Sims 4 - Definitive Guide

This guide is for people who don't want to have to buy the City Life expansion pack.

Ok, the 'Triple Play' achievement is the hardest achievement in the game, and is basically luck based. you could get this at the first attempt, or it may take you 100 hours. I finally figured a way to have 7 chances for triplets per attempt, and one attempt every 15-25 minutes (Depending on how fast you are). It does take a bit of time setting up, but I highly recommend doing it.

Here is a step by step guild on how I got the achievement in the end.

Household Setup

Step One - New game and create a new household.
Step Two - Have the new household consist of one adult male & seven adult female.
Step three - Have all 8 sims have Family Aspiration.
Step Four - Have all 8 sims have these traits, Family-oriented, Romantic and finally Bookworm.
Step Five - This is important. Make sure all 8 sims have a different surname to each other.
Step Six - Start game with new household
Step Seven - Once game has loaded, go into build mode and add home traits located in top left corner of screen. Have your home have these traits Homey, Natural Light & Teen Neighborhood. (Not sure if this helps, so might be able to skip this, but this is what I had done)

Preparation

Step Eight - Use the cheat to give all 8 sims the Fertile trait. This cheat will NOT disable achievements. To add the fertile trait to each sim you have to do one sim at a time. To activate the cheat -

1) Have the sim you wish to give fertile trait selected.
2) Press and hold LB, RB, LT & RT. This will bring a command bar up on the top of your screen.
3) Highlight command bar and press A. Now enter this code Traits.equip_trait Fertile
4) Repeat previous steps for all 8 sims, and check all 8 sims have the fertile trait.

Step Nine - Build relationships with the 7 female sims using your male sim. Now your object here is to get all 7 sims to the point they will try for a baby with you. I recommend building relationship's with one sim at a time. So basically do this -

Preparing female sims.

1) Build friendship up, I like to get the friendship green bar to around 40-50% full before romancing starts..
2) Start romancing until you have the option to try for a baby but don't try for baby just yet. Do not ask any sim to be your girl friend or get married in this step. Depending on how fast you are at getting through all sims, I recommend building your romance up alittle, as over time your romance bar drops while working on other sims.
3) This step is optional. I did this step as my sim was living in a small house, and at times things can be a little hectic, and my sims would get jealous of each other when I romance with them. Move the newly romanced female sim out of household into their own household using the manage world/household (located top right of screen) or press start and select manage worlds. For more information on how to, check this link out - http://www.carls-sims-4-guide.com/tutorials/moving-sims.php
4) Repeat previous steps with the remaining 6 female sims. Just make sure each female is in a household on their own, if you chose to do step 3. Don't stick all 7 female sims in the same household as there wont be room for future babies.

Step Ten - Now you should be at the point where your male sim is living alone and the 7 female sims are living by their self's. Wait until 7am or just before and make a save.
We will call this save one, and Do not overwrite this save at any time or you will have to start again from beginning.

Step 11 . That's all the Preparation done, so now Lets begin making babies!

1) invite one of the female sims to your home using the mobile phone.
2) Once sim arrives, try for baby.
3) Then ask her to leave.
4) Repeat with all 7 female sims.
5) Make a new save. We will call this save two.
6) Fast forward 2-3 days until all seven females have had children. To know when the babies have arrived, some (Not all) sims will ring you to inform you are a dad. You can keep our eye on the relationship tab located bottom right of screen for when the babies are born.
7) If none of the females have triplets, reload save one and repeat all of step 11 from the beginning, and so on until you get triplets.
8) When one of the females gives birth to triplets, make a note of which female it was and reload save 2 and invite her round to your home using the mobile and ask her to move in so she is a controllable sim.
9) Now just fast forward until she has those triplets and you get your achievement.

I have done this for 15-20 times now, and usually end up having only 1 pair of twins. I do think this is a good way to go but cant seem to get triplets.

Guide's fine and all. But you should edit it to not tell people to have people move out right after you get the option to try for baby. That's still kind of low on the romance thing and over time it depletes and has a high chance of them not wanting to do it, causing it to drop. Following your directions, out of 7 attempts in total, only 3 times did a female want to try for a baby, causing a massive waste of my time.

Thanks Project Tourture. I didn't have problems my self with romance dropping, but I didn't take into consideration that it may take longer for other people to set up. I have updated guild, and apologies for the problems you experienced.

No need to apologize, we all experience things differently and in different ways. What works for one might not be the best for another. Just trying to give some additional info is all :)

I did get it this way finally. I did extend the number of GF's to 11 by housing them in a 2nd world. Personally I did not have problems by moving them out straight away. I did notice that sometimes they show up angry at the door and need a little chat before making a baby.

Yeah I moved them out straight away as they would get angry with me when doing romance actions with other sims.

NapalmNIko, the guide doesn't guarantee you get triplets as I have already mentioned at start of my guide. The guide is for improving the chances of triplets, and with some luck, hopefully reducing the time needed to invest for this achivement. I know your frustrations, as my self it took over one hundred births to get my triplets. Keep at it buddy, you will get them in the end.

Kudos, SPACE ODDITY, on this well-detailed guide -- the only thing I might add is to suggest people turn off Sim autonomy (Start button --> Gameplay tab --> Autonomy: Off, and Disable Autonomy for Selected Sim checked), to better avoid running in to jealousy situations. This way, you can leave Sims unattended, without fear of them marching in to a room where you are developing relations with another Sim. Doing this, though, one must remember to attend to Sims' needs, as the Sims will not, until a need turns red.

Very good method! Thumbs up!
Got it on my 3rd try. Extremely lucky!
Well kinda. First time I found triplets and reloaded the save and moved them in together. They both died by house fire...twice. But I got it in the end thankfully!

All these methods are awesome. Very helpful, but the one thing I’d like to add that I didn’t see mentioned is the fact that it can be obtained with animals as well. I got mine by surprise when my pup had triplets and the cheevo popped, funny thing is I was t even going for it at the time. I’m willing to bet the chances are greater for pets (if there’s any reality to it).

Oh god, finally I got it after 150+ kids with 10 women. something I like to point out. you don't have to ask them to move in with you as the male character. just select the women with triplets household and hit play.

I tried this, and not only was it hard to get the romance up, even using more traits than just fertile, but i couldn't afford to move any out.

Better solution.

Go to manage worlds, and go to Gallery.
Hit LB and search for "triplet". Find a pregnant chick with tags saying anything that indicates triplets, and then download and play her. Got mine within 10 mims of spawning her into a house with an npc.

This is the stupidest f***ing achievement in the game. Even with the Fertile trait, I have tried and conceived somewhere around the region of 100 babies and still not triplets. I despise these stupid ass RNG achievements that rely on so heavily on luck, they always take me the longest time - I never just get lucky in the first couple of attempts. I'm now to the point that I just feel myself wasting my f***ing life away because you have to wait through the whole pregnancy as you can't just save before giving birth and then reload if it's not triplets angryangryangry

It took 20 mins with the dog method all I did was put the house trait to breeding grounds this increases chances of a bigger litter. She wasn't in heat but I read it increases chances. I was all the way friends with her. The male dog was half way friends with. I encouraged him to breed with female and one day later she had her litter.

Btw I made Dante Sparda as my sim and Okami Amaterasu as my female dog. I made a random male that looked like Okami named him Kenway.

I did this while doing the above solution no luck I did it around four times maxed out all the ladies romance. Much easier if you have money for dog expansion which is worth achievement getting it in less than 20 mins. But other than that the dog expansion can be annoying. It is fun at first but I got so annoyed with the dogs wanting to be pet all the time I think the loyal trait had something to do with it.

Thanks for the guide! I had a Sim with most of the reward traits (including Fertile), so I copied him by saving the household to the library and imported him back in 7 times. Converted them to female and gave them different coloured hair and surnames to differentiate them. Unfortunately, my household funds vanished, so when it came to moving the females out, they had to merge with pre-existing households with 4 or less Sims in.

I was unsure if the On a Ley Line lot trait from the City Life DLC was a help or a hindrance for triplets, as it only claims to increase the likelihood of twins. So I alternated having it on and off between attempts and got it on my 4th or 5th run with On a Ley Line active, so if it does negatively impact the chance of triplets it doesn't seem to be by a lot. According to other sources, aspirations, traits (aside from Fertile and On a Ley Line) and behaviours while pregnant don't affect the number of babies born.

One last note - I kept the last two romanced females living with the male. I impregnated them first, and they weren't happy being cheated on, but they seemed to produce more twins than the females I moved out, and it was one of the women that stayed that finally gave me triplets. I don't know if this is indicative of anything or just coincidence, but not a lot seems to be known about the way Sims babies are decided. Good luck to anyone going for this, it's definitely a test of patience. 👍

Easiest way to complete this achievement within 5 minutes.

Go to manage world
Open Gallery
Type in the search bar "triplets"
I chose the 3rd one as she was on her own (credit to "Rasilitin" for the sim)
Click on the sim you want and press "place household" in the bottom right corner
Place on any lot
Play for roughly 1 sim day (around 5-10 mins)
She will give birth to trplets and the achievement should pop

I'll add a comment, make sure you're doing this either in a new household or a household with only 3 Sims or less. I kept only getting twins when using a household with 4 Sims already. Also there's a pregnant sim in labour already in the gallery under recents so if you have a bassinet already on the property you can make her give birth immediately

I'm not trying to take anything away from Space Oddity's guide. I just want to make it a bit smaller and add some new information that many may find useful. I actually got this achievement with the help of his guide, so, onward. An EA community manager has spoken about this achievement specifically, and mentioned that the ONLY thing that can change the number of babies born, is the Fertile Trait. Also, the second your two sims bump uglies, the # has already been decided so there is no point in doing anything special or extra at that point, whether it be watching kids tv/radio or eating special stuff. It's just a waste of your time.

Essentially, follow Space Oddity's guide but keep in mind you can and should do the bare minimum to avoid extra work that will not help you in any way. Also, it would help to not send off the 7 female sims you're going to mate with as soon as you get the option to try for babies, as that romance level has a high failure rate for doing so, and as time passes the bar depletes, and in most cases will not be high enough for you to try when they come over. I suggest just filling it out to max. It doesn't take much longer. So, just do that, and one by one, have them come over, then bang n' ditch them all, save the game in another slot. (have the first game before you mate with any of them, with their romance levels in another slot) and never save over it again. Once one of the girls have triplets, reload your second save that you made after you've mated with them all and know one is going to have the triplets, and have that one move in before she gives birth. It won't unlock if she doesn't live in the house when she gives birth. Also, make sure they have different last names or all of the babies will have the same last name, making it pretty impossible to tell if it's a triplet or just one of many mothers babies.

I had about 100 babies before I finally got this.

How do you know if they've had triplets it tells you when your at home right?

I saw the thing you said where it said it tells you what your getting later like "eating for two" someone said the keyline trait for the house isn't necessary since it says twins but other people said it helps.

This achievement is some what luck based but you don't need the DLC to do it. You can buy your sims some extra traits with the points you get for completing whims or parts of their aspirations. You will need to get 3,000 points (it takes some grinding) but once at 3,000, you can buy the Fertile trait. This trait boast the odds of having twins or triplets. Now I recommend having both parents have this trait before "woohooing" and make sure both sims have all their needs in the green. It may take a few tries but you should be able to get it. If you do have the DLC "City Living", there is a lot trait called "On Ley Line". This trait will boast the chance of twins not triplets. I couldn't find any information about the percentages but I have seen some people express issues with both the trait "Fertile" and the lot trait "On Ley Line", it may be harder to get triplets with both traits as it would boast the twins rate. So maybe try it without the lot trait first.

Edit: I finally got this achievement after 10 hours of trying, it is very much luck based. However after speaking to some people on reddit, I tried some of the tips that they gave me. After getting the fertile traits and getting the sims knocked up, have the sim either watch the kids channel or read a ton of kids books. This some how helps the rate for twins and triplets go up. Another person recommended to keep your sim in the playful mood during the pregnancy. Once I started using both those tips, it took me about 3 hours to get triplets.

Also, if you are picky about the gender of the babies, there are ways to per-determined the genders. So if you want a boy (or a bunch of boys) have your pregnant sim eat carrots (To get carrots, you have to find them around town, grow them yourself, or buy seed packs and hope you get some. Or if you have the DLC "City Living", there should be a stall in town that sells fruit.) and listen to alternative music on the radio. To have a little girl (or a bunch of girls), have your pregnant sim eat strawberries (Strawberries are found around town or can be grown. I don't believe they can be bought from the seed packages but if you have the DLC "City Living" there will be a stall that sell fruits and veggies) and listen to pop music on the radio. I basically have my sim eat the fruits at least once a day and have them listen to the right station for about an in game hour or so. If your looking to get twins or triplets that are different genders, I don't suggest doing any of this steps. You have to let the game determined if you get a boy and a girl when dealing with multiples.

I did this in the City Life expansion pack. Moved my family to San Myshuno. Moved to Medina Studio Apts which has twin traits. Woohoo'd a lot, kept her happiness levels high. When she went into labor had her go to the hospital. She ended up having 2 sets of triplets.

Tried the same routine on a different character and had the same outcome.
Base game I was only able to have twins. Will update solution if that changes.

According to The Big McShane, "Dunno if it was just a coincidence but I manually aged up my sims to adult (I had previously disabled ageing up and was trying with young adults) and within 3-4 attempts I finally had triplets"

Hope this helps. The Big McShane owns the deluxe version.

This is really just luck. I at least had both my sims with the fertility trait to give them more chance of twins or triplets. the first time around was twins. when i did it the second time, it was triplets. i had the women watch kids shows every so often. had the home trait one of them to teen friendly. and i also had them try for a baby in the rocket ship. so who know's if that set it over. but i did just unlock this today. and once your sim gives birth, and the three menus pop up to pick their names, you should see the achievement pop up immediately after the third name you choose. i always just do random names for achievement hunting.

This is by far, the best guide for the Triple Play trophy, just wanted to add a few things;

1. An easy way to make the process even faster is to add additional traits to the father Sim using the LB+RB+LT+RT command, such as the No Jealousy trait (super useful), and ones that make the Sim's needs empty slower (like Steel Bladder or Forever Full (DLC)). Another useful trait is the one that grants you the "Beguile" romance interaction, it speeds up the process a ton!

2. I would skip adding the house traits, they don't really up the chance for twins.

3. For Step 11's part 8, instead of calling the potential triplet having parent, it's quicker to just load your save from right after you did Try for Baby with all of the potential mothers, then just go to manage households and manually move her in.

IMPORTANT: make sure you have enough room in your family for 3 extra dogs/cats as if you have 6 you will only be able to get twins

After 2 years of on and of try I finally got it today and this is how
I've brought the cats and dogs pack with Parenthood use the "Breeding ground" lot trait

Next I made two dogs (but cats can work to) a male and female and became friends with them

Lastly I went to the friendly tab when intersecting with them "encourage to breed with" and chose my other dog

I will add this only took a few hours once j brought the dlc I got it yesterday so this is by far the quickest and easiest way to get but it will cost money hope this helps

This will be the trophy that gives you the biggest headache, but there are two ways to go about doing this - the first method is much longer and will give your unlimited attempts at getting triplets. The second method is much, much quicker and just requires you to download a pregnant Sim we have uploaded to the Gallery for use.

The number of babies conceived is determined at the point of conception. It doesn’t matter what your Sim does while pregnant - they can read whatever, do whatever, it doesn’t matter. You need to focus on what to do before you do the deed.

If you purchased the “City Life” Expansion Pack, there is a trait called “Ley Lines” that you can apply to your Lot. DO NOT DO THIS. This highly increases the chances you’ll have twins, but not triplets. It will add more frustration to an already frustrating trophy so just save yourself the headache and money.

The First Method is to basically make a Sim pimp. You will need TWO empty save files for this. Create a household with 8 Sims - 1 Male and 7 Female. All the females will need to have different last names (I just had them as One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, and Seven). Using numbers will not only make keeping track of who you’ve slept with easier, but seeing which babies belong to who as they’ll have their parents’ last name. Make sure they all have the following traits when you create them:

  • Romantic
  • Outgoing
  • Cheerful/Good/Loner, any of these will work for the last one

Also choose the Love Aspiration with the Serial Romantic goal.

When you start the game, you want to aim to get all 8 Sims the Fertility Trait. You can do this two ways (the second of which is recommended since this trophy is already rough):

First Way: Complete Aspirations for each Sim until they each reach 3,000 points. Purchase the Trait for each Sim so they all have it.

Second Way: Pop in a code. If using this method, there are a few codes you should use to make this a little easier for yourself. To enter a code, hit , , , and at the same time. A green bar should appear in the top left corner. Hit to open up the keyboard. Enter one code, hit to confirm. Hit again if you want to enter more, otherwise hit all 4 trigger buttons again to close the menu. The codes recommended are listed below:

Note that there is a single space between ‘equip_trait’ and the trait name.

FERTILE: traits.equip_trait FERTILE

Recommended (but not required):

PLAYER: traits.equip_trait Player (Prevents jealousy)
ALLURING: traits.equip_trait Alluring (More successful Romantic Encounters)
BEGUILING: traits.equip_trait Beguiling (allows your Sim to instantly make any other Sim ‘Flirty”)
FOREVER FRESH: traits.equip_trait ForeverFresh (Hygiene need will not decline)
FOREVER FULL: traits.equip_trait ForeverFull (Hunger need will not decline)
GREAT KISSER: traits.equip_trait GreatKisser (You kiss gud)
GREGARIOUS: traits.equip_trait Gregarious (Build friendships faster)
NEVER WEARY: traits.equip_trait NeverWeary (Always full Energy Bar)
SHAMELESS: traits.equip_trait Shameless (Never get Embarrassed)
STEEL BLADDER: traits.equip_trait SteelBladder (Never have to pee)

Once you’re all set, you’ll want to grow all of the Sims friendships so that they’re at least halfway through the romance bar (the pink bar) and the friendship bar (green) around ¼ full. The friendship bar doesn’t matter so much, as it’s the progress on the romance bar that’ll make the “Try for Baby” option available. When you’re done, hit and choose “Manage Worlds” (when asked if you want to save, select YES and Save to Empty save file #1).

Click on your household and choose “more”, then “manage household”, then “transfer Sims between households”. Transfer the girls into other Households that are located on the map (there will be a drop down showing what’s available). You should transfer only up to two girls into each Household (you don’t want to do more than two otherwise there may not be room for triplets to be born). Once they’re all moved out, you now want to evict any Sim that is not part of your weird love-octagon. Click on the households you moved all the girls into (one at a time) and choose “more”, then “manage household”, then “transfer Sims between households”. On the right, you should see an option to “Create New Household”. Click on this and move any Sim that’s not yours from the left, to the right. Click the checkmark to move them out. When they’re all moved, select on your household with your Sim pimp and continue to play. SAVE YOUR GAME HERE (Overwrite save file #1).

Now it’s time to get dirty.

Now that you have your main save setup with your pimp and 7 fertile females, you can start the process of getting them all pregnant.

You’ll want to use your phone to invite two of the girls over at a time. Make sure you’re doing this on a day they’re not working so that they’re all available. When the Sims arrive, select your bed then “Try for Baby” with both girls (one at a time, of course). Click on each lady straight after to also queue the “Ask to Leave” action. This is so they aren’t hanging around afterwards when you’ll be inviting the next few Sims over. Once you are done doing the business, invite over the next two Sims. You want to have a smooth flow of queued actions of the Sims coming and going as this will save some time in what’s a tedious repetitive task. Rinse and repeat this routine until you have slept will all 7 ladies.

After you’ve finished with the last Sim, you will want to make a separate save from the one you created earlier. We’ll call this Save 2. The purpose of this separate save is so that if any of the 7 females go on to give birth to triplets, you can reload the game from here (when they'd only just conceived) and play the household of the Sim that had the triplets.

It will take around 2-3 in-game days (about 20 minutes real time if you have it at full speed) after trying for a baby for the Sims’ to give birth. In this time, you’ll just want to queue sleep/nap actions to speed up the clock. When the first Sim has given birth, your clock will revert to normal speed and your phone will start ringing. You’ll have a message from one of the Sims saying they’ve given birth. If it’s not triplets then it doesn’t matter, as you’ll be going back to sleep and waiting until the other 6 have given birth. Your phone won’t go off for these ones, however you can go into the Relationships tab and the babies will appear in there as they’re born.

What you’re looking for here is 3 babies from the same Sim, you’ll know who gave birth to who as their names will be (random forename) then (the number surname you gave them). If a Sim has had triplets, DO NOT save your game. Instead, remember which Sim the triplets belonged to (the number in their names) then load Save 2 and select the household of the Sim who gave birth to them. Now you’ll be playing as the Sim before she’s given birth but has already conceived. Sleep/nap to speed up the trimesters and reach the point of labor quicker. Once she gives birth, the trophy will pop after you have confirmed naming all 3 babies.

If there aren’t any triplets, exit out (do not save!) and load Save 1. Repeat the baby-making routine as described earlier. If you’re having to try again, make sure you remember to save your game after impregnating all 7 Sims again then overwrite Save 2. This can take anywhere between 1-8 hours to complete, so you really want to be patient with it. It is entirely based on luck.

The Second Method: We've gone through the steps of the first method and have saved the Sim that produced the triplets. You can download her from the Gallery and create a household using her. When you start up the game, she'll give birth within a minute or two, unlocking the trophy.

You need to search for Debra (tags are #TriplePlay, #Trophy, and #Triplets). The player that uploaded her will be shown as Rezzua.

There is a simple way, I found it on some foreign forum. The gallery has saved a Sim who is already pregnant and will give birth to triplets. You just move her into the house and play with this family until she gives birth. You need to search for Debra (tags #TriplePlay, #Trophy and #Triplets). The player who downloaded it will be shown as Rezzua.

I created one father and eight mothers. She has endowed everyone with the "Having many children" trait (open the cheat input field by simultaneously pressing R1+L1+R2+L2, then enter "traits.equip_trait Fertile". This code does not affect the drop of trophies, since you did not enter "testingcheats on" before ) and placed the mothers separately from the father. When the father conceived children with all eight ladies, I saved the game and waited. Then I looked at which of the women gave birth to triplets (they don’t always call to announce the birth of children, so you have to check manually just in case), loaded the save file and invited the mother of the triplets to move in to yourself. The trophy fell on the second try, which took about forty minutes in total.

PS Don't put all mothers on one lot. They will not be able to get pregnant due to the restriction of eight characters living on one plot. I didn’t place mothers anywhere at all. They lived without a home. There is another option: to place each mother on a separate lot. In this case, when one of them gets pregnant with triplets, load the save file and just switch to playing with her.

You may also need to make a separate save file before starting the whole process, because it is not known how many attempts will be required, but the lot. again, not rubber and can fit just seven babies and mom. And, as far as I know, there is no way to remove unwanted children from the family. (There may be a way without using cheats, but I don't know it).

With the addition of pets, the prize is easier to get: I was given it after the dog gave birth to three puppies)))

Without additional supplements, it turned out for 155 children (if you don’t count twins, then this was about 120-130 pregnant women)
