How to unlock the Up a Notch achievement in The Sims 4 - Definitive Guide

if just looking for the achievement itself, The Sims 4 community has families you can download from the gallery that already have maxed out culinary career (or just about to reach it), so that is the quickest option available

for those who are looking to do it more naturally, first you should decide if you are going the "chef" or "mixologist" career branch!

for the "chef" branch:
  • focus on increasing your cooking level by cooking (or reading about cooking) with the long term goal to get this to level 10
  • focus on increasing your mixology level by mixing drinks at a bar (or reading about mixology) to get this to level 4
  • once you reach level 5 in cooking you can start gourmet cooking with the goal to increase this to at least level 8 (you can read skill books on this before your cooking reaches level 5 though)
  • optional: the ideal mood for cooking and gourmet cooking is inspired (taking a thoughtful shower, browsing art on a computer, etc.)
  • optional: the master chef aspiration pairs very well with this career branch
  • optional: the foodie trait allows your sim to watch cooking show on tv for ideas or search for recipe ideas on the computer
for the "mixology" branch:
  • focus on increasing your mixology level by mixing drinks at a bar (switch to bar tricks once you can) with the long term goal to get this to level 10
  • optional: the ideal mood for mixing drinks is inspired (taking a thoughtful shower, browsing art on a computer, etc.)
  • focus on increasing your charisma level by practicing speech at a mirror (make your sim's mood confident first as it makes this go faster) with the goal to increase this to at least level 8

There are two branches to the Culinary Career: Chef and Mixologist. Only one is required for the trophy.

Chef:

Skills Required: Cooking Level 1, Gourmet Cooking Level 8
Daily Task: Preparing Meals
Recommended Moodlet: Inspired

Mixologist:

Skills Required: Mixology Level 10, Charisma Level 8
Daily Task: Preparing Meals, Mixing Drinks
Recommended Moodlet: Inspired

The recommended/preferred Moodlet for this Career is “Inspired”. While at home, you can use the “Inspired Painting” trick outlined in Tungsten Chef. However, you want to be Inspired when you actually go to work and for as long as possible while there. There are a few ways to get this Moodlet outside of the painting:

  • Plunk for Inspiration (Piano)
  • Pluck for Inspiration (Guitar)
  • Bow for Inspiration (Violin)
  • Earn the “Delicious Meal” Moodlet from cooking (Gourmet Cooking level 4 required)
  • Take a Thoughtful Shower
  • Drink Prose and Pop (Mixology Level 1, Bar Required)


When you get the notification that your carpool will arrive in the next hour, plunk/pluck/bow for Inspiration on the designated instrument. This action will take a little over an hour, but will finish before you are “late” to work. It will also grant you the Inspired Moodlet for 8 Hours, covering almost the entire work day.

Make sure the needs bars for your Sim are all in the green as well. Each promotion will take anywhere between 2-4 days (the latter promotions will take about 4). As soon as you reach Level 10 of either branch, the trophy will unlock.
