How to unlock the Following In Their Footsteps achievement in The Surge 2 - Definitive Guide

As you progress through the main quest you will regularly come across Echoes of Athena, large purple columns of nanite. There are 10 of these visions, but only 9 of them can be recovered during the main missions without any real effort on your part.

First of all, you will have to progress through the story until you obtain the
(“The Path of the Prophet” Mission). With this skill, you are now able to destroy the nanite barriers that you have seen throughout Jericho City.

Proceed to Warren’s Hideout in the Underground, from there use the Exo-line on the right to traverse up. Keep moving in this direction and then use the next Exo-line near the tanks. Walk through the door and destroy the nanite barrier on the left. On the other side of it, you will witness the Strange Vision 5-10, and will unlock the achievement.

Note that there are additional Athena related logs, marked in your inventory by the same exact symbol as the Visions, but those do not contribute to the achievement. Therefore only counting the icons in your inventory might throw you off.

The one I'd missed was one of the earlier visions in Port Nixon, but luckily I was able to backtrack and collect it even in late game.

I have 11 audio log related to Athena in my inventory but no achievement...weird. Seems broken for me.

Same for me... others aren't unlocking either. I know I killed a Gaia statue with the spear after disarming it, and I killed all three delver echoes with no achievements for either.

I'm playing through a NG+ right now and have unlocked almost all of the achievements I'd missed. I'll let you know if this one works on NG+.

Well... I've collected all of them again in a NG+ run and nothing. I now have every other achievement though... guess it's time to start a brand new game with a Lv1 rig instead of my Lv150 rig. :(

I think thr guide should be updated, there is one easily missed at Port Nixon. Just after the comic book shop, continue the path forward, when the area opens up to 3 or 4 turrets and half a dozen mobs. Just before it at the waters edge on the left is one vision. Easily missed.

If it was subtitled in Russian, I already watched it. No luck. Thanks for the help though!

Just got this , and checked my audio files. You do in fact get one audio log for each strange vision and they are numbered so you should be able to tell which one you are missing. There are 11 logs in total , 10 strange visions and 1 called 'Call for Help'

I have all of them then. Damn. New game it is. I just finished replaying the first Surge to get all of the leftover achievements.

For everyone here not getting achievements popping, don't let your game go to sleep, always quit out. There was an issue on Surge 1 and this that made it so doing things that unlocked achievements after resuming the game from being slept caused the achievements not to unlock. I've had luck with quitting out and reloading sometimes, but better safe than sorry.

Would like to note that you can unlock this in NG+.

I only missed the one in Port Nixon on my first play though. The achievement unlocked as soon as I picked it up in NG+.

If you mean the one that is sort of on a small island you walk out to, I got it (it's also where the boat leaves from for the DLC). I have eleven files under Athena, ten numbered files and one unnumbered. I just double-checked Port Nixon though and nope...

I also had 10 files, but i hadn't collected this. So the files arnt an accurate representation of visions found. I found this one via a you tube vid. Im not saying yours isnt glitched. But it might help to watch the vid? Cant do any harm lol. If you wish to, search, surge 2 strange vision locations, Zhakey is the author, best of luck

I collected all 10 on first playthrough and achievement didn't unlock. Trying in NG+ but I'm not confident it will work this time. There are at least one other achievement I KNOW I should have unlocked by now and they have not popped either (Offensive Defense) - those are not even tracking. Reading the comment above, I guess I've let my game go to sleep a lot. Does anyone know if I start quitting normally and redo the achievements, will they unlock? Or do I need to do something drastic like reinstall and start over?

I have noticed a lot of my achievements would pop at once when I had closed the game and restarted it, but there are 2 that aren't tracking and aren't unlocking. I've literally directionally blocked 30 different enemies, 30 times from the same enemy, 30 times in each direction from respawned enemies, and still nothing. I love the game but come on, this should be the easiest part of development - I'm no dev, but I do know IF/THEN coding rules, and it seems like achievements would fall under that logic, but what do I know

UPDATE: Starting a new game in a new save slot I was able to unlock Offensive Defense within 15 minutes in the starting area. I know that's not this achievement, but I have news on that one too. I collected all 10 echoes for this achievement twice in NG and NG+ without unlocking. Since the blocking one unlocked without issue in a new save slot, I believe this one will work as well. I almost want to try NG++ first though because I can cruise through the game much faster with a high level build lol. Will update once I get it.

UPDATE: Didn't waste time on NG++ because I think I know what caused my glitch. Continued my new game in a new save slot to get this. For anyone with this not unlocking and going through a brand new playthrough just for this - you do not need the upgrade to punch through nanite barriers to get the last audio log. You can actually make a jump from the upper level of the pillar platform closest to the audio log. You need to aim to jump onto the corner of the railing, then jump immediately from there before falling off. For anyone curious what caused my glitch, I had fallen through a hole in the floor at AID Command in my original playthrough, and when I landed on the floor below I was caught between a railing and the wall. I tried for about 15 minutes trying to jump out/glitch myself out of being stuck. The way I was able to save that playthrough was deleting my local save data, which is what I believe caused the problems with my achievements not unlocking.

Strange Visions are static scenes that you'll come across depicting the struggle of a small girl named Athena. The first will be impossible to miss, it is directly after the first boss fight against Warden Garcia. You will see a large black cloud of particles gathered on the ground, and upon walking into it the scene will play out. Once the scene is over, a chest will spawn to loot (though this has nothing to do with the achievement).

Nine of these are found in Part 1 of the game with the final echo being in Part 2. I would suggest following this walkthrough which has all of them marked, and is generally a nice help in figuring out where to go and what to do, since the game tends to be a bit vague in this regard.

On my first playthrough, while watching the 9th echo, I was killed, and the game didn’t count it. After the respawn it was no longer possible to start it, I had to watch it in NI+. Maybe it will help someone, be careful. The last echo is located in the underground behind a nanite wall; it will be possible to break through it only after gaining the ability to destroy such walls!

In fact, there are 14 of them - the name of the trophy is misleading.

Need to collect 10! Audio recordings of Athena! They are all numbered (*/10) - you can find out exactly which one is missing; the most recent entry is taken underground (5/1o) - can be taken only after gaining the ability to break walls.
