OH that stinks, man!

It feels like a few of the achievements in this game are glitched.

The dlc armor counts toward this achievement. I unlocked it when I crafted the armor from the kraken dlc

Can it be 20 of the same set? Or do you need to be holding 20 sets at one time? Obviously you cant carry 20 of the same set at a time.

I have currently 27 crafted Gears Sets in my inventory and haven't unlocked this achievement, not sure what to do. Maybe in the future if i purchase the 3 dlc sets and the kraken dlc that adds more it might unlock?

DeadFallout98 as THAIWANER suggests above, you could try to sell one piece of a few armor sets and then recraft them, see if they register then?

I can confirm that you must have 20 sets in crafted in your inventory at one time. There are a couple of armor sets that you craft and sell to npc's as part of their quests and those did not count towards the 20.

You can let the grinding for last!!!
At NG+, right before the last boss, there are five enemies: one ordinary soldier, three Technogenesis armored enemies and that one with the long arm (forgot his name, sorry). By killing them, while having equipped both Reclamation Buddy implants (standard and EX versions) combined with the VULTR partial set, you gain around 162,000 scraps (this equipment combination increases the scrap multiplier to 1.85x). A Mk. XI set requires around 130,000 scraps. So, I believe 40 minutes is more than enough time to acquire the scraps necessary for this achievement.

P.S.: Actually, you may gain even more scraps per run because these enemies usually drops a few of that large pile of metal scrap (10,000 scraps);
P.S. 2: You can make this process shorter if you increase your scrap multiplier by holding some scraps with you.

My equipment:
Mk. XX GAIA Lancer
Mk. XIV .I.D. Polaris head and arms gear
Mk. XI VULTR body and legs gear

See Defense in Depth (30G) for how to collect gear schematics and craft items. Completely craft 20 full sets (head, body, two arms, two legs) to unlock this achievement. They don't need to be upgraded at all, so simply crafting them at Tier I is enough. There are more than 20 sets in the game, though a few are specific to bosses and would take at least four playthroughs to get a full set of schematics. However, there are more than 20 just from regular enemies that respawn. A few are specific to Part 1 of the game, so try to get a full schematic set right away when you first see an enemy to be safe. You can always worry about crafting them toward the end when scrap is no longer an issue.

Do it strictly on the first playthrough.
The new game+ requires many times more resources and spare parts.

To receive the trophy, you must simultaneously have 20 assembled sets in your inventory. If you first create and then sell a kit, the game will not count it.

There are more than 20 types of equipment in the game (I collected about 26). We simply chop off all body parts of absolutely all opponents and thus collect sets of armor. Several armor sets can be purchased from merchants.
