How to unlock the Big Sister achievement in The Surge - Definitive Guide

The Big Sister 1/3 has 3 phases. In the first phase you have to destroy 2 arms. The two arms attack you alternately and perform various attack techniques. During these attacks a laser will attack you from time to time. The laser goes back and forth on your current position. To avoid all these attacks, you must dodge and move. The best chance to make a hit is when an arm comes flat on the ground to your position.

After you destroy both arm the second phase starts and you have to go forward. Here you will find 4 little laser cranes. This section is a little bit tricky but doable. The key is to keep calm and attack on the right moment. Go to the left or right side close to the railing and behind one laser, the laser will now attacks you, dodge and wait. The laser is spinning around and burn some extra fire and is this fire off and the laser goes back in the starting position is your time to hit the laser crane one time! Repeat this until the laser crane is down, after that switch to the other side and do the same. Now on each side is one laser down and one laser alive. With the same tactic destroy the last two laser crane and go directly to the boss and the third phase starts. One little notice, at the last laser crane, the boss will start again with the laser attack, so you have to dodge this attack also.

In the third phase go directly to the back as far as it goes and attack the column / stand where the boss is located. After some hits the column / stand is destroyed and the boss is nearly permanently in front. Attack him directly and dodge the attack and heal you. I have not find really a pattern, it looks like random, so hit him every time if it possible and heal yourself.

Oh, there's a second phase? I just bolted straight for the grabby robot at the end and beat the hell outta it.

Yeah, you can skip straight through the crane things. Only downside is that they can attack you if you get in front of the boss, but hanging out to the sides and behind wasn't difficult.

I did the same thing, just ran through the 4 welding arms and attacked the core.

Turns out that skipping the cranes is also the trigger for getting the better version of the boss weapon.

I have some valuable advice that will make this battle easier and also allow you to skip the second phase of this three phase battle.

Firstly go to options and turn off both Auto Lock On and Auto Switch Lock. Trust me this is a massive help not only in phase 1 but mainly 2.

Phase 1
This phase is all about timing. Keep to the back and angle the camera so you can see both claws. As soon as one of the claws lowers immediately jump. Don't wait for it or try and time a dodge just jump out of the way when the claw lowers. This gives you enough to compose yourself then get two hits in(1 with power weapon). Jump to the back again and now watch for the other claw.

Provided you stay at the back it pretty much prevented the claws from using its other attacks.

Listen out for a Lazer attack. This is a double attack. When you hear the mechanism ready to fire begin jumping. Another lazer will fire straight after so jump again.

This phase is purely about timing. Don't worry if at first you get pummeled, it takes practice and understanding the movements.

Ideally you should use no more than 1 or 2 health

switch to your power weapon

Stage 2
Run up some stairs and you will see mechanical arms. You are supposed to destroy these, however these will eat into your health. They inflict massive damage and are difficult to dodge.
Instead run straight to the back.

Stage 3
There is a small eye type mechanism protected by a cage. I found that if stand right underneath the eye it can't hit you. So stand underneath then wait for cage to open then hit it with your power weapon.

Be careful sometimes the momentum of your swings can put you into danger however you should have enough health.

According to other videos you are supposed too run from side to side of the eye. I found I lost to much health.

Here is a video

You can clearly see that as I was standing still I was not taking damage the biggest problem was the slow speed the weapon and the momentum of tree swing dragging me forward. Maybe the Vibrocutter or Staff would accutaly be more effective.

Hell yes. It only took my three tries thanks to this advice. I had a hard time avoiding damage under the eye, but thankfully I had enough healing injections to make it through. Nice one!

Big Sister is the third boss in the surge. You will go through three phase of fighting when you meet this boss. The first step after you fall down from the ledge above is you will have to destroy the two pincers that are attacking you. It will have a few different attacks which include it smashing the pincers down on you, swiping the pincers side to side on the ground, and it will lunge the pincers at you. After every 2 or 3 attacks from the Big Sister, a laser will be shot from its head aiming at you, so make sure your paying attention to the fight so that you know when to dodge it when it comes your way. The best time to attack these is when the lunge at you as they will sit in place for a few seconds before they retract back. I suggest you hit it with 1 or 2 hits to avoid getting hit by the next attack. Rinse and repeat this with both of the pincers until they are destroyed.

During the second phase, you will move closer to the head but this time you will be dealing with 4 arms that shoot out lasers (2 on each side). These arms have quite a few attacks which include spinning around in a circle within its vicinity and, lunging, and spewing fire. What you will want to do is stick to one side and destroy both arms on that side first. Doing so will decrease the chances of you getting attacked by all four arms as these arms can take you out within 4 hits. After you destroy 2 arms on one side, move to the other and destroy the other 2. Depending on your weapons power you should be able to take them out with 4 to 5 swings each (I was using a Single - Rigged weapon which is powerful yet slow). Also, note that during this phase the head will continue to shoot lasers at you, so be on the lookout and dodge when needed.

After you've defeated the four arms, you will get to the final phase, which is the head. The head has several attacks which include it smashing down from the top of the screen, opening its arms and follows you around it will try to grab you and crush you, swinging its arms/head from one side to the other. At certain times, it will block you, which will be when it has its hands covering the face. At this time is when you will do the least amount of damage to it. You will still want to attack it during this time though. But feel free to attack it after successfully evading its attacks, as there is really no great opportunity to attack the head during this phase. After about 20 hits, you should defeat Big Sister.

Story-related and cannot be missed. Big Sister is the third boss, and you fight her on your second visit to Central Production B.

It’s easier for me to stay to the left of the boss, sometimes it’s not even enough...

I advise you not to hit her tentacles in the second stage, otherwise you risk spending most of your first aid kits on them. We just destroy the pincers, run through the tentacles, then hit and spin right next to the boss, the tentacles don’t reach there. Will save both time and first aid kits.

Plus, if you kill the “sister” without touching the tentacles in the second stage, she will drop a weapon version 2.0
