How to unlock the Episodic achievement in The Surge - Definitive Guide

There are nine episodes to finish. The higher the episode, the better the gear and upgrade materials you can get. So don't try to farm everything in the lower episodes. The higher episodes are more difficult, but worth it.

The episodes unlock as you are progressing through the main story (thanks to Kanchanaburi for pointing this out). If you're playing on NG+, all the episodes are available to you.

Every episode is a set of two locations (out of six possible ones) and the boss area. The locations are the same, the enemies change, though. However, if you're familiar with the geography, you will know the tricks... the shortcuts etc.

Locations:

Frontier Journeys - train bridge - can be run through without fighting!!!! This will be extremely helpful in the final episode with the dark crystal enemies..... Just run along the tracks and don't fall down. It can be done, saves a lot of time and effort!

Frontier Mirage - sunny areas burn you, take your health. There is a shortcut you unlock. Also, the area right at the end of the location (when you have switched off the lights) can be run through without killing the enemy/enemies. Extremely helpful with the Black Cerberus enemy in episode 8!

Frontier Riches - there is a platform you need to stand on to lower the gate leading forward. Just step on it once and focus on the enemies that will come from three tunnels above. Just focus on one as soon as he falls down, take them out one by one. The second pressure plate can be avoided once you have unlocked the shortcut.

Frontier Abyss - this one is a pain, try not to fall down... there is a shortcut right after the first area. If you kill the enemies, the mining cart will no longer run on the tracks and you can leave through the door at the end of the track.

Frontier Crypt - be careful of the area that will lock down when you enter. When you get rid of the enemies, new ones will spawn and you can't escape! There's a trick, you can lure the enemies out before the area shuts down (use your drone and stay out). However, you have to enter the arena before you kill the last enemy, otherwise the game will bug out on you, and you will be unable to leave! Also, there is a shortcut, so you don't need to run through the arena on your way back.

Frontier Town - there is a useful shortcut to unlock

I hope this helps.

For anyone who is wondering, the difficulty spike (and it is huge) happens in Episode 5. Other than getting to know where the enemies were so they didn't hit you from behind, episode 1-4 were pretty easy. The boss of the 5th, which i finally got to, barely got hurt from my attacks, but I can murder the same boss in episode 1-4. (I am using markII gear)

It should also be noted you cannot complete all episodes until you have proceeded far enough into the game. Ex. I am in the R&D area and have turned on the door to the testing chamber and after completing Ep7 it tells me I must proceed further into the game before I can do ep8. However, by doing episode 7 I was able to get materials to upgrade my weapon and helmet to max level (I got MK5 materials here and already had nanocores) which would have been achieved further into the campaign since enemies during this area were barely giving MK4 materials.

It is actually not missable. It found out it still can be unlocked in the room where the test-chambers are started, at another console at the opposite side of the crafting station.

I first listened to Rischboter's monologue but chose not to interact with the console in expectance of a final boss-fight. So I left through the door to bank techscrap and to upgrade my gear and weapon, supposing I could return to that room, which is not possible.

There I noticed that new console, interacted with it and the achievement unlocked, being a bit of an anti-climax for me

I completed the DLC on the PC-version on Steam, that was way easier than playing it in NG++ on the Xbox One, where I completed the full game and 1st DLC (all 1200 gamerscore). Somehow the game is easier on PC, I even beat Rogue Process on the 1st attempt, which took me numerous tries on the xbox playthroughs.

Essentially a story related achievement. As mentioned in the Road Map, if you are on a fresh run of the game, more episodes will unlock as you beat each story boss. If you are on NG+ or above, you'll have all the episodes available as soon as you unlock the entrance to the DLC.

Entrances to the DLC are located in different locations, the very first entrance is in the “Abandoned Workshop” location where there is a passage to the dark part (there are still NPCs and the level is all in poison)

The DLC is divided into parts that open as you progress through the main game; when playing on NG+, all parts of the DLC will be immediately opened, and you will not have to run around different locations to complete the “episodes”

To simplify your task, go through episodes without modifiers until you unlock everything, then with almost all modifiers go through 1-2-3 episodes to farm weapons and Armor Sets.

I don’t know why, probably this fix was made with a patch, but on NG+ you have to open all the doors and missions again, plus the progress is also reset. So it's better to go through everything in the first playthrough.
