How to unlock the Firebug achievement in The Surge - Definitive Guide

LU-74 Firebug has 2 phases / forms. In the first phase you have to destroy 3 legs. Avoid the spin and leg attacks and weakens one leg after another. After you destroy 3 legs, Firebug turns into another form and he is now flying and spinning through the entire room. It is important you avoid the spin and dash attack otherwise you will die very quickly.

You can hit Firebug in this form after the spin and dash attack for a short period. Do one attack and go back and wait again. This is the safest method. If you have enough heal injection left, you can attack him also after the fire / burner attacks or the spining little legs but the chance that you get a hit from him is very high.

I used the Pax weapon. You can just spam your running attack with it. It attacks much faster than if you try and attack like in the video. (The running attack is done by sprinting with the left thumbstick pushed in and hitting RB or RT while sprinting) I was easily able to beat him and get the hardcore kill. Only got hit once the whole fight and it was because I ran into the wall like an idiot. Used the lynx armor too. Not sure if that speeds up the running attack.

I really struggled with the boss particularly with the second stage. I wanted to provide some tips as well show a clip of an environment exploit where none of his attacks can hit you.

Stage 1
Here you must attack the legs. Equip something quick and agile I used the butterfly dual handed weapon.

The trick with the stage is waiting for his movements. So he'll shoo a spin attack run up to him and provoke him to do a leg attack. You can tell from his movements when he will do this. Dodge the leg then run in and bash a leg. Never be greedy.

Repeat this tactic. Run upto him provoke a leg attack Dodge then attack.

Stage 2
Here is where the real battle begins.

He will perform multiple attacks all deadly. You must destroy the central area on his body.

Run to the corner. Inbetween a column is an area where NONE of his attacks can reach you. You need to wait for his attacks to end then run out hit m with 2 too 3attacks then run back the corner. Do not target him otherwise this will interfere with your camera angles when you are trying to get in the corner.

While your waiting for his attacks to end you can use your drone. Damage is minimal but it all helps.

I recommend watching this clip. Unfortunately I didn't think to turn on my dvr until I realised I was gonna win

Yes, indeed, the corner method was so helpful. I'm not above using soft exploits like this. And ya, it only works in the second phase. I just chipped away with my drone and went in with my PAX Imperator for one hit when Firebug stopped it's whirling dervish attack.

The corner method made it super easy to unlock the V2.0 variant of Firebug’s weapon. For anyone interested, the “hardcore” kill on this boss requires removing all of its legs before killing it.

That "corner-method" helped me out finally beating it, thanks for posting this.

This only works in the 2nd phase, I tried it during phase 1 and the Firebug still could hurt me in that corner, by shooting projectiles and whacking me with one of it's legs.

Mostly I struggled with the 1st phase and in the 2nd I often didn't stand a chance, not even with 58 core power and the PAX Imperator at proficiency level 20. I really had to learn not to get cocky. Sometimes I managed to make the Firebug kneel with one strike and cut off a leg with another right after. The Imperator's attack is slow but powerful, timing and good use of stamina is key in this. It happened to much this boss killed me because I wasn't able to hit or jump away after running out of stamina.

LU-74 "Firebug" is the second boss in the game. The LU-74 "Firebug" has 2 forms. The first form is when it’s in a crablike state. In order to damage this form, you will need to attack its legs after it jumps and falls down from the sky. Once it falls down run towards it and perform a slide attack and hit it once. Any more than that and you risk being damaged severely.

After you have weakened its legs enough, the Firebug will fall to the ground and you will have to attack the fallen leg until it breaks off. Keep repeating this and eventually you will have a little animation where you are blown back.

After this, the Firebug will transform into its second form. The Firebug will hover around the area. It will start off with either trying to ram into you or spinning its two arms around while flying towards you. If you get hit by these attacks, you have a great chance of being killed instantly. So, as it comes towards you, you need to side step out of the way. The best time to attack it in this state is to wait until the firebug charges at you not when its spinning its arms. After it charges you rush it and do a slide attack. Just do one attack and back off of it. If you do not, you risk being injured. Rinse and repeat this method and you will eventually destroy the firebug.

Story-related and cannot be missed. Firebug is the second boss. You'll encounter him at the end of Central Production B.

The most optimal killing tactics are a pole weapon, acceleration or dash and strike, followed by 2 rebounds.
When the boss hits with any paw, it bounces to the side.
For each severed paw - a full charge of energy. For every knockdown of the boss - too.
The main thing with this boss is to keep your distance. Until you cut off all his paws.
Then get closer and hit as hard as you can while filling up with first aid kits.

In my case, it was the “Lynx” set, Level 2. Pipe Lv. 2 and 9 first aid kits of 90 hp each, plus an implant for Energy overflow of 30 hp.

Before you kill the boss, cut off all of his legs. As a reward you will receive Throttle v2.0.

The trick: when you enter the arena: turn immediately to the right. There you will see a vertical pipe. Stand behind it and you will not be afraid of all his attacks in the second phase. I noticed it by accident when I was fighting with him. I didn’t spend a single first aid kit. I waited for the turntable and after it a couple of blows with the sword. Went through in a couple of minutes.
