How to unlock the Leave Your Mark achievement in The Talos Principle - Definitive Guide
Go to level C2, to the right of the purple church door there's an orange tree with a paint bucket sitting behind it.
Take the paint into a puzzle area and find a spot on the wall where you're prompted to write a message (don't "seek counsel" - that won't count).

This can also be done in B1. The paint bucket is in the room that you teleport in to. It is behind a column on the left before you go out into the puzzle area.

Just to add on to the help being stated above... The paint cans all have like 80 spawn points or so in total ( these pictures can be accessed throughout the internet ). The main thing to note is that it is random for every player - these locations. I have noticed something myself though. Reloading a checkpoint won't respawn paint cans in different locations again but shutting off the game and turning it back on will. I was watching a walkthrough on youtube and it showed me a paint can location at B1 and I saw exactly where it was but for me it wasn't there... I reloaded my checkpoint about 5 times - nothing changed. Shut off the game - turned it on the next day - and it was there in B1 at the exact location in vid. I also reloaded my checkpoint when I saw it there and it remained there just to double check if this statement was accurate. Just wanted to post this as it served as some type of proof for players. There is no certainty as to how many times you would have to do this but I lucked out at the first time I rebooted it. I hope this helps some people who are looking to knock this out right away for fear of losing it, though it's been stated there are many opportunities.
Use a paint bucket to leave a message on any appropriate surface.
In various puzzle hubs, there will be a somewhat hidden bucket of white paint, typically tucked in a corner or near a wall. For this achievement, simply pick up the paint bucket, then walk to a wall and interact with it to paint a QR code on the wall. Refer to Split Personality (30G) for more information.
Scattered around the levels you will sometimes find a little bucket of white paint, go pick it up and paint your own QR code on any flat wall. Any message you select will do. They will be usually hidden around corners or in the middle of some walls located around a level. To get a guaranteed bucket, you can go to world C-7, there is a bucket to your left around some broken walls next to an audio log. There is a very good chance you'll find one before then though.
