How to unlock the 540 degrees achievement in The Touryst - Definitive Guide

Arrive at Hawayy Island
Get shorts from Balloon Salesman (between Shirt and Ice Cream shops)
Change into shorts in changing stations next to announcer tower
Talk to announcer and surfers to start contest

You can retry as much as you can, 10,000 points completes the to-do list objective. Build up speed by doing tricks and get the height I achieve in the video link below. The height still took me around 20 retries to finally get and its probably better to do more than just the two tricks over and over to get that height but this is how I did it.
Nailing your drop ins is also a must

Any further tips? I watched the video, and I got the speed bar to max, but I still can't get enough air to pull off a 540.

Its quite rough to get the height, I recommend doing what Moppy did. The video I had was after at like 20 retries of doing the minigame

I eventually got it after 20 or so retries, but I still don't really understand why sometimes you jump 3-4 times as high.

Get your speed up to about halfway and I have found that trying to stay even at the top of the wave for a few seconds before you dip to make your jump helps to get that last burst of speed for the 540. Took me about 30 retries then did it a few runs in a row.

I did it 3 times but the achievement didnt pop.😔

Edit: I did 3 540s in a row in one run, still no achievement...

Can confirm this is a pain to do. I got it on my 35th try. Try to land as many drops and 180°s as soon as you start by spinning to your right side, and once your meter is full, you'll get big air, enough to land a 540°. I crashed into the wave but still unlocked the achievement thankfully, as I was close to a rage quit.

I'm at nearly 50 attempts and can't ever seem to get enough air for 540, is there something I'm missing? I'm doing 180s and drops consecutively and once I get speed up to near max the tube sucks me in and I wipeout

Yeah, once you go max speed or a high amount of points, the tube will such you in. The angle seems to be extremely precise.

The wave just randomly catches me every time, I can't even play this minigame as long as it's shown in the videos. By the time my speed is around halfway the wave pops into the screen and wipes me away.

Holy shit, this is so much easier on Xbox... I was playing on my PC and it was running so fast and then played on Xbox and it was so slow that after the 30 tries on PC, I tried once on Xbox and easily did it.

Took about thirty seconds after I did it for the achievement to pop following BlazeFlareon's guide. In that thirty seconds I was about ready to chuck my controller through the TV. The height seems to be super finicky and random when it comes to the speed meter.

When you jump out of the water and then land you have to turn back up as fast as you can - repeat this - I was at over 60 attempts before I realized I was going higher the faster I could turn back up and jump again - I got it with only about 1/3 of the speed bar filled.

After about 25 tries I managed to get a 540 Pro but the achievement didn't unlock. I'm playing on PC.

EDIT: I uninstalled the game then re-installed it. This game uses cloud saves, so it synced my save and the achievement unlocked on the title screen. Worth trying if anyone else has problems.

You don't have to do any special or certain amount of tricks. You gain speed and height by staying as close to the top of the wave as possible - when you jump out of the water, turn and land, then turn back up to get out of the water as fast as you can - rinse and repeat - I can nail 540's time after time now.

I can't even get the character to turn right. These controls are awful. How am I supposed to get the achievement when my high score is 1000 points? :(

By SmallGenie549 on 07 Aug 2020 22:00
The only control is the left thumb stick, and all you can control is basically up and down. Push up to jump out of the water and down to turn back to the water to land.

Patience isn't key here, the waves are slowly move too take you out, so you have too be fast and fill the gauge enough too make the flip. Keep surfing right too make sure when you hit faster speeds that you don't fly into them early as well

By Christopher2123 on 13 Aug 2020 16:44
The guides here just arent helpful, they dont even explain the controls (left and right on the thumbstick). I got it by simply going up and over the crest of the wave many times within a few seconds, this fires you up in the air when you get it right and you can easily make the 540. My speed meter was only halfway full so it's not as important as people think.

No matter what I do when I jump with the full bar and I know I can land the 540 the wave just catches and I go down.

I've tried so many times is not fun anymore.

@CaianTironi: So don't hold the left analog (or move button on keyboard) while surfing, just push buttons to go up or down. I'll give it a shot!

As you're about to drop in, get ready to yurn and head back up, keep doing this quickly and eventually you'll get enough air. Surprised me when I hot so high and eas just hoping I'd land it correctly!

michael el loco's above comment is what works! he said: "When you jump out of the water and then land you have to turn back up as fast as you can - repeat this - I was at over 60 attempts before I realized I was going higher the faster I could turn back up and jump again - I got it with only about 1/3 of the speed bar filled."

thats what everybody means by only turning right! ya gotta chain em together quickly

Just did this, can agree with the last few comments that chaining quickly is the way to go. Took me a while though because I didn't chain quickly enough for a long time.
You need to already be turning slightly as you land. If you land and move to the bottom of the screen before the next jump it's not going to work - you'll know when you're doing it right because you'll pretty much stay at the top of the wave and will almost immediately jump again.

Easily one of the toughest parts of a straightforward game, besides the high score quest... I agree with the majority that you need to stay towards the top of the way to chain, I managed to get it to pop even though I crashed out as I did the 540 pro, persistence is definitely key.

Just got this achievement finally after several attempts across console and pc, but after being on pc (keyboard and controller) i tweaked the settings for more fps and things felt smoother. I got it with controller but the key was starting your trick right before "launching" off the wave. I mastered getting the speed up (deep orange/red) and as soon as I stopped trying to start in the air, it was 2 attempts.

Huzzah! I finally got it! I used the controller on PC.

I think I understand the chaining now : Reach top of wave, jump, try to do a 180 spin, land, start going back up right away. Originally I was landing and going all the way to the bottom of the screen, which was taking too much of the time away. As soon as you land start getting ready for the next jump.

(My last comment is not going to age well when ppl realize I got the achievement 2 hours later.)

After struggling on this for like an hour before finally getting it, the only other piece of advice I think I could add is that it seems way easier to land the 360 and higher spins by spinning to the right rather than the left. It also seems easier to build/maintain smooth momentum this way, allowing you to more easily build up speed towards the 540.

I would start each run with a couple Tube Rides, then knock out a couple quick Drops/Reverses (seems like those two can be performed in one move if you just land with your board horizontal to the top of the wave? Not 100% sure), then just spam short little 180s as fast as I can. Once the speed bar is around halfway full, I switch off to doing 360s (again, rotating towards the right) and alternating into 180s, and once I felt like I had a good, smooth momentum going, went for the 540. I was actually able to do two back to back this way, and got enough height for the 720 (but crashed into the wave tube on my way down.)

I got this on my 14th try i think. It was a totally random air spike. I was about 10 seconds into a new run, had my Speed bar at about 1/4, and i just shot vertically off the screen. It took me a split second to realize that i had some time to try for it, and managed to spin just enough as i hit the water. It popped 2 seconds after i landed. Weird how much of a PITA this is.

The key is to not try and rush this. Just do up and down 180's until you max out the speed gauge, then you want to exit the water at a 90 degree angle on a jump with a lot of height, turn as much as you can and you should enter the water at 90 degrees the other direction, giving you the total 540 turn and unlocking the achievement.

Only took me about 4-5 tries once I had figured out how to get the speed up.

After almost 150 tries, I did it easily when I realized what I was doing wrong. It may be obvious, but if someone was struggling like me, here it is:
You DO NOT hold the left analog while surfing. You let your guy surf by himself, and just TOUCH the analog sometimes to correct your position.

Usually I was doing a 180 turn and started again going upwards with a back 180 turn. When I started doing 180 turns and landing them directly completing the 2nd 180 degree to the left (360 in total), I got it first try. So I always was pressing right and never left. Sorry for the complicated explanation.

On Hawayy Island, you can join a surfing competition; however, first you need to buy some shorts. These can be purchased from Enzo, just outside the Tshirt shop. Change into them in the beach changing room and then join the competition. You can surf as many times as you want. To do a 540 degree turn, you need to build up your speed meter by doing small tricks. With enough speed, you will start to jump higher making it possible to complete larger tricks.

Here is a video guide with English commentary!

Guides here said we need to wait for the RED speed to do the trick, but I failed since the wave would come faster than I got to the red.

I tried to it on orange speed with a little bit of luck on getting the require height.

Here the video:

Once you don't need to chase for the red speed, all you need to do is make the correct angle to get the height.

This is done on Hawayy Island, and you can buy the Guide from Leysure Island. When you get there you talk to the ref on the stand, will then need shorts. Buy them from the vender between the ice cream man and the t-shirt store, then you can compete.

As for the surfing itself, you just need to get enough speed to get the 540 degree turn. You get speed by going up, then coming down the wave. You don't actually need to catch air to build speed, but I've noticed you get higher after going straight up the attempt before. So if you get to about 90% speed, then go straight up and do a 360, then come down and go back up, you usually have enough speed to get the 540. I was able to get it three times in a row after trying that, but it took me 27 attempts up to that point lol. You do have a set amount of time before the wave catches up to you and stops your run, so try it to get a feel for it, and then you should get it. Hope this helps, video below showing how to build speed easy.

The controls are not at all intuitive. After reading many guides and a LOT of playing, I discovered you should only move the controller to right the board toward the top then push to the right to orient the board for a good landing. Nothing else. Keep your finger off the stick if you aren’t redirecting up or for a landing. Anything else will cause a crash.

The trick is to use short, sharp jumps to quickly gain maximum speed, which will give you the ability to jump high enough to spin 540 degrees. Video guide (en).
