How to unlock the Warrior, Gladiator achievement in The Warriors Street Brawl - Definitive Guide
It took me many deaths to get this achievement so expect a lot of frustration, unfortunately. But perseverence wins out, I feel. This is a very difficult achievement for a few reasons.
- You have one life to beat the 5 bosses and you can't earn any extras.
- You HAVE to do it by yourself, no co-op, or it will not unlock.
- The bosses are cheap and the same strategy may not work 100% every time.
Now, you can pick whoever you like playing with as this is mostly up to your skill, but Vermin hits the hardest even though he is a bit slow. Also I am not sure if the arena actually matters. I've tried each one with no real obvious advantages I could find. I happened to be on Graveyard when I finally earned the achievement. You can get some running distance between you and the boss by forcing them to run into headstones, it'll give you a chance to turn around, run back and attack them quick.
The basic strategy for this mode will rely on a kick combo and whether or not you can save the health pick ups for later fights.
- At the start of a fight, run (Left Trigger) at a boss and when you are about 1 or 2 leg lengths away, start a kick combo (Y button). This is how you will attack the whole time. After the combo, back off for a bit. The last kick should've knocked the boss over. Get some room between you two and once the boss is up, repeat the same technique.
- You don't want to just mash on Y during the combo because sometimes a boss will enter into an unblockable special move. You don't want to be stuck kicking at him when he starts it, so get a good rhythm and be ready for the possibility that you may have to turn and run away in the middle.
- Starting the combo early should catch the boss offguard and allow you to kick them, but REMEMBER this is not guaranteed to work 100% of the time. A few times, a boss may break your combo or attack first but don't panic...just BLOCK until the boss absolutely stops attacking, and then back off and continue to employ the same tactic.
- You can sometimes tell when it is safe to hit a boss without the need to run up. If the boss just stands around waiting or their back is facing you, you should be able to get a combo in. Be aware of what the boss is doing at all times.
- Each boss leaves behind a health item that restores FULL health. Watch your health meter. If you don't need any health, make sure not to accidentally pick up the health or it will be a waste (and you WILL need them later). Try to back away in the opposite direction of the boss when you get your last kick in to avoid the health.
Here's a more in depth strategy for each boss.
Turnbull AC
This is the easiest of all of them. But note that this boss has an unblockable move that you MUST avoid. While kicking him, he may hold his pipe up in the air and throw his head back laughing (you won't hear laughter though). This means he is about to charge you for high damage. So run away from him and out of his path to avoid it. He locks on to you so be careful.
There is a neat trick you can do on him that can also fill your Rage bar for later and potentially earn you the Chain Gang and Facebreaker achievements if you haven't gotten them in the story/arcade modes. Same trick works there for all regular MALE (Lizzies will break out of it always) enemies and the Turnbull boss. After getting a kick combo on him, when he's on the ground you can hold your Left Stick against him while mashing Y button. This will make you kick the boss in his side (holding the button will make you stomp, you don't want to do that). If you continue to hold the stick towards the boss and mash on Y, you can continue to kick him until he is dead. You might start circling around his body but just keep aiming in his direction and kicking.
Note that SOMETIMES he will break your combo and get back up, but it's ok. Just get him down again and keep trying. If you have a hard time doing this move, go into Story mode or Arcade mode and practice on some normal enemies. This trick ONLY works on this guy for bosses, though.
By the end of the fight, if you're good on health, let the boss get up and try to use the tip I gave above to avoid the health pick up. As you kick him, hold the stick in the opposite direction of the boss and hopefully you'll run without picking it up. Now you can use it later.
Baseball Furies
This guy has an unblockable move. Like the first boss, he'll hold his bats up, throw his head back and laugh. After that, whatever spot you are in, he will spin with his bats out towards you. Move out of the way and just kick combo him when he's done spinning (he'll be dazed).
The basic LT+YYYYY kick combo works on this guy. You cannot use the trick with the ACs boss. This is just up to being careful and slowly chopping at his health. Sometimes during your combo he will kick and hit you, but it's ok. Just block or back off and restart the combo. You don't want to stay close to him for too long.Again, if you don't need health, try to avoid the pick up he drops because having two on the ground with help GREATLY with the next fight.
Lizzies
She is evil. She really is. She doesn't have much of a pattern I could ever figure out and she is quick so she'll often break your combos. You need to be very careful with her and realize that she will kill you many times. But that's why we leave health on the floor. If you attack her and she blocks or hits you, block and get away from her. She will trap you in an endless attack string until you are dead.
The LT+Y kicks work on her but I'd say it works about 50% of the time. Just attempt to use that on her. If she stabs you, BLOCK. Keep blocking. When she stops attacking, if she hasn't knocked you over, you should be able to attack her now. That's one thing I noticed. If you block and let her run up to you, she will almos always stab and immediately after that stab is done, you MAY be able to kick combo her if she only stabbed once. If she doesn't stab, she will cartwheel into you which you'll block. She'll wheel away past you and you can run up behind her and kick combo (but like everything else...sometimes she will block).
But she is a nightmare to fight and be prepared for major frustration. But don't stray and remember, if you have the health on the ground, use it when you need to. You may be able to out last her at least.
HiHats
This guy is like the break between two evil, cheap bosses. Note that he has an unblockable move similar to the other guys. Lifts his weapon in the air while laughing and very slowly spins around in the direction you were last standing. Easy to avoid.
The basic kick combo works fine on him, he doesn't get too tricky. He's about as easy as the Turnbull AC's boss. Doesn't break your combo a whole lot. You should be able to get through without losing much health, so try to leave his health on the ground as well if you don't need it. Because you WILL need it for Luthor.
Luthor
He can be unpredictable. He also has a gun. Not fun.
Two things to note about him. If you see him suddenly tumble forward, this means he's going to start shooting you. Run circles around him to avoid getting hit. Also sometimes when you attack he'll cut you off with gunfire. Hard to avoid this, you just need to block and hope you can get away from him for some health.
What I ended up doing was just running around him attempting the kick combo if I saw him idling for a bit. While running, it would sometimes force him to roll forward and try to shoot me. I'd run behind him when he stopped and stood back up, then got a combo in. Like mentioned above, sometimes he cut me off and got some quick shots in. I blocked and when he was done, I attacked. I think what helped though was constantly running. It was hard for him to get any shots on me.
But what will save your life is leaving the health on the ground. Because if you can pick health up once or twice during the battle, you can outlast him after catching onto his attacks. Also if you built up Rage during the Turnbull AC's fight, use it on Luthor for an extra damage boost.
Once he is dead, your achievement will unlock at the stats/results screen. And it'll be a well deserved achievement.

Is there a way to make Luthor roll? I keep running and nada he just keeps shooting his gun like a douchebag or if I do hit him he does this "parry" move and goes into this pistol whip 3 shot combo. Seriously if this was a retail disc version it would have been smashed into like 1,000,000,000,000,000 pieces

I would've smashed it, too. This game is so insanely random about when and where people will do specific moves and not in a logical or fair way, either.
I haven't found another specific way to "force" him to roll apart from trying to stay far from him will running circles. My distance between the bosses and myself were usually an entire person's length away. It might seem like that wouldn't help because of how far you appear to be (like you wouldn't get to them in time to attack), but it's what ended up working for me. When I was closer to him, he would simply try to attack me. When I was farther, he gave up attacking and went for the roll & shoot.
Sometimes he would stop mid-roll and go into a roll in a different direction so yeah...there is just nothing fair about this mode at all. But at least you are getting to Luthor, that's a good thing. I think if you fight him enough times, you will find what does and doesn't work for you but with him it's always about leaving the health on the ground. If you can do that, normal "hit and run" attacks should slowly break him down.

A really good way of doing this achievement is to harvest health power ups. On the first boss just hit him to the floor in one of the corners and try to stun kick him to get your rage bar up. On his last health bar (yellow bar) try to get him down to one hit and in a corner somewhere, this will be quite easy since he charges a lot. Once you have done this kick him once from a bit of distance away and you wont pick up the health bonus.
The second boss is the same as the first, except you cant stun hit him on the floor. Get him down to low health and kick him once also you will have two health pick ups now.
The third boss is tough, I suggest you use your rage bar on her but make sure you get a hit on her before activating it. Get a bit of distance between you and her and lung a kick at her. You have to try and hit her before she gets too close, you will barely hit her if you are doing this correctly. You may want to pick up one of the health pick ups for this fight because she is really annoying.
Fourth boss is exactly the same as the second boss, just repeat what you did for him.
The last boss is kinda tough but hopefully by this point you will have two health pick ups and some good health. When he rolls around shooting try to hit him then. Their is no real strat to this boss but avoid and capitalise on him taunting or making a mistake.
To be fair the last boss is a little bit of luck and you will need it! ;)
