How to unlock the Eagle Eye achievement in The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings - Definitive Guide

This is a missable storyline achievement in the Prologue, and it is the first achievement you can get in the game.

During the Prologue, you will go though a camp of soldiers and speak to King Foltest. After two cutscenes, you will be given a spyglass and asked to mark Count Etcheverry. When you gain control of the spyglass, put the center crosshair over the person on the left of the tower across from you and press "A." This achievement was wrong in the PC version of the game, so ignore the PC Youtube videos which tell you to aim at the person on the right.

If you aimed correctly, Geralt will say, "One and a half degrees," and you will see the ballista shoot and destroy your enemies. On the right hand side you will be told your journal has been updated with Count Etcheverry's info. If this does not happen, reload your last auto-save, which is right before the cutscenes (which can now be skipped).

The achievement does not pop until after the sequence ends, another 5 second cutscene happens, and there is a quick loading screen. Please let me know if anything needs clarification and I will modify my solution as warranted.

NOTE: The Prologue sequence is different than the Training sequence. The Prologue begins after you choose the game's difficulty.

EDIT: Additional tip by umainbearman, confirmed by sashamorning: "This one played out a bit different for me. I couldn't see anyone to shoot at so paused it to watch the vid. When I resumed it simply had an a. b. c. choice on screen to make. I think it was 2.5 meters, 1.5 meters and 1 meter. I chose 1.5 meters which is what the video said and it worked. If you did it right you'll see a little cut scene with the guys getting taken out."

FTGKannaAusakur--You get this very early in the Prologue, before you fight a single enemy. However, if you can get Perfectionist first by killing 10 enemies without getting hit in the Tutorial, please confirm and I will update accordingly.

Frankie's right: you get this one a couple hours or so before you even finish the prologue and get that achievement. Started it last night and am loving it so much I don't want to peak at secret achievements to ruin ANYTHING but this was also the first one I got in the game as it does take place before any combat, and the only other side quest you can begin before the ballista is the "Newboy quest" (can't remember the official name of it) and that one doesn't end until the very end of the prologue and there was no achievement for that.

I second umainbearman... if you press Start when the spyglass view comes up and then resume, you'll have the option to just choose 1.5 degrees. That pops the cheeve too.

Might just be me, but I couldn't pause the game.

Worked nicely. And yes, the achievement does take quite a while to pop up. It unlocks after the cut scene and after the following loading screen.

I can't pause it, either. My start does nothing while in the spy glass.

A silly point, really, but this isn't the first achievement you can possibly get -- you can play dice poker with one of the soldiers in the camp, and get the five-of-a-kind achievement ("Poker!"), before this (wouldn't have known this, but for being remarkably lucky enough to win this in my second winning poker roll against that soldier).

I was able to pause it as soon as the targeting reticule came up. Unpaused, picked 1.5, achievement after loading screen.

You can also get the achievement for brewing potions before this one.

If you are starting with Dark mode - the middle of the grid needs to be just below the guy on the right. He will say 1.5 degrees.

This is the first achievement you can pick up in the game and is missable, so follow the guide carefully.

During the Prologue, you’ll be given a spyglass and asked to mark Count Etcheverry. When you gain control of the spyglass, move the center crosshair over the person on the left of the tower opposite you and press "A."

If executed correctly, Geralt will say "one and a half degrees," the Ballista will destroy your enemies and your journal will be updated with Count Etcheverry’s info. If that doesn’t happen then re-load your last auto-save and try again, you will not get the achievement.

The achievement will eventually pop after the entire sequence finishes, by which point the auto-save will have shifted to a later point.
