How to unlock the Master Alchemist achievement in The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings - Definitive Guide

I found that there is a way to redistribute all your talent points in Chapter 3, if you spent them along the way. This makes it possible to benefit from them along the way however you see fit, but still unlock Master Alchemist, Master of Magic, and Swordmaster at that point.

However, it's part of the "From a Bygone Era" quest. I don't know if you can get this quest on Iorveth's path, but definitely on Roche's path.

In Chapter 2, you will have a quest involving examing grave stones near Malget's hut. Directly behind the hut is a trap door on the ground. If you make it down there and solve a puzzle dealing with candles, you'll get Malget's notes. They're encrypted, and you're instructed to find somebody who can read them.

Dethmold wants to buy them, but don't sell. If you still have the note when you reach Chapter 3, you can find a will-of-the-wisp door guardian in Loc Muinne, down in the sewers. Take the notes to a mage-smith (Bras of Ban Ard) in the central market area, and he'll explain the trick for using the notes to answer the guardian's password. Return to the guardian, solve the password puzzle based on Bras's info and Malget's notes, and enter the portal. Solve a puzzle with braziers, go through the unlocked door, and meet the "person" who can help you.

Save before talking, so it's easy to re-load afterwards. This allows you to un-assign all talent points, thereby letting you re-assign them as needed to get Master of Alchemy, Master of Magic, and Swordmaster. When talking to him, don't admit that you're not the chosen one and don't ask to get out of there. Ask him what the artifact does, then ask him to get started.

Each of these are on their respective talent trees to the left, right, and bottom. They're the second talents from the end in each tree.

Just to let you know, you can get this on Iorveth's path but its easy to miss. After you cross the fog you can go to the hut and the secret room but as I said its easy to miss since its not involved in any quest on Iorveth's path so you have to go out of your way to the hut.

Thanks for the info. When I played back through in Iorveth's path, I was just in a hurry to get missed achievements and didn't try out much exploring or side quests. Good to know!

On Iorveth's path, the trap door under the barrels at the hut is locked for me so I had saved up enough pts to pop this and the magic one before completing chapter 2. I have the GoD Enhanced edition btw. Hut is the structure in the southwest part of the map when following the river west on the map if others like me on Iorveth's path were looking for it.

The cellar door is locked for me on Iorveth's path as well.

To unlock the Mutant ability you will need to save 8 talent points. doing so will then allow you to unlock this ability. Load your character skill tree and then proceed to unlock 1 of each ability up to Mutant. Once the Mutant ability is unlocked, return to your game and the achievement will unlock shortly after.

If you do not wish to waste points on this skill set, save your game before hand and reload your save once the achievement is unlocked.

Note: You cannot earn this while playing the arena mode. All ability unlocks tied to the arena are separate of the main game.

For the Master Alchemist Achievement, you need to unlock the Mutant Ability which is towards the end of the Alchemy Skill Tree. You will need 8 talents in order to unlock the Mutant ability, which unlocks berserk mode. After unlocking it and resuming your game, the achievement will unlock in a few seconds.

It is best to save up talent points early, you will need 8, to unlock all 3 skill related achievements at the same time by reloading the game after each achievement.

This worked perfectly. I had read this but didn't actually intend to save up 8 points, then near the end of chapter 2 I finished a bunch of quests in quick succession and found I had 8 points on hand. I was able to get all 3 skill related achievements in just a few seconds. Thanks for the idea!

To earn the Master Alchemist Achievement you need to unlock the Mutant Ability found towards the end of the Alchemy Skill Tree. You need 8 talent points in order to unlock the Mutant ability. If you don't want to invest in this skill, make sure you save before you spend the talent points. Then you can go back to your save with the talent points intact. You cannot earn this while playing the arena mode. You can get the "Swordmaster", "Mutant", "Master Alchemist", and "Master of Magic" achievements in one go, by using the From a Bygone Era side mission on Iorveth's path in the correct manner. Follow the walkthrough here.
