How to unlock the Miser achievement in The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings - Definitive Guide

I found this mentioned on another Achievements forum, and it seems to work really well.

Disclaimer: I did this on the Roche path. I don't know for sure if the quest or area is available on the Iorveth path, but if I find out that it is, I'll update the guide.

In Chapter 2, in the "Visionary" quest, you'll come to the visionary's hut. Four Harpies will attack. Deal with them, go back up the path (or into the circle of candles by the cabin door, either one), then back, and repeat.

The Harpies keep respawning, so you can collect crafting components from them each time. This goes pretty fast. I found it pretty simple even on Dark difficulty, although I've got a Red Meteorite sword and some great armor to help. If you're playing on a lower difficulty, equipment probably won't even matter much.

Take the stuff back to the Dwarf in the camp (back the way you came) and sell all the loot -- cloth, etc, but especially the Harpy ingredients. The feathers are particularly valuable. They're light-weight, so you can really stock up before making the trip back.

I didn't try this, but this might go twice as fast with the Harvester ability.

This is also a good way to get the Butcher of Blavhakin (sp?) achievement. Just remember to save periodically just in case.

This solution is for whomever is going on Iorveth's path, on normal difficulty. Not sure if it can be done on Roche's.

It is a variation of Wyndo's solution so partial credit goes to him.

Once you get to Chapter 2, continue on with the story until you are able to go outside the gates. What you want to do now is get to the old quarry. Which is located SW of Vergen. There is a hut with a guy who asks you to bring him Harpy feathers but you won't be selling him those feathers during this process. Continue down the path below into the quarry and fight all Harpies that you encounter. There should be around 15-20. When you are done, pick up the loot go back to the top by the hut select wait time till many hours later and they should respawn, repeat the slaugter. When you have all that you can carry, go back to Vergen's market by the gate and sell the loot to whomever you want. (I sold to the guy who sells the dragon armor). I was making over 1000 per trip, so you'll have the Miser achievement in no time. Obvioulsy this is a great way to make money & you gain xp as well. Hope this helps.

This method isn't 100% accurate. Don't know if it was cause of the patch or what but it doesn't work for me for some reason.

An easy way to get this without going out of your way is to save, sell everything you have stored in your chest or in your inventory until you have 10,000 orens, and then reloading once you have the achievement.
If you plan on hoarding items, it is important to know the locations of your storage chests. Items in the chests DO carry over to the next chapter.

Minor Spoilers Ahead.

In chapter 1, the storage chest is located on the lower level of the inn, near the door to the brothel.
Roche's Path, Chapter 2 - the chest is outside the encampment by the brothel tents, near a dwarf.
Iorveths Path, Chapter 2 - your chest is in your room at the Cauldron.
Chapter 3 - inside the ruined building used as an inn southwest of the notice board in Loc Muinne.

I've noticed that items sell for a lot less than your inventory tells you they are worth (or perhaps the dwarf ripped me off) so I would wait to go for the achievement until after you have collected plenty of items.

I was able to use this method during Chapter 3 in the Loc Muinne town square. Before selling all my items I had roughly 6000 Orens, after I’d sold everything (including my equipped weapons and armor) I had 9900 Orens. I then simply ran around the town square looting everything and was able to reach 10K Orens by selling what I found. If you follow the WT you should have around the same amount of currency as I did, so this is an easy place to acquire the 10K and unlock the achievement. Thanks for the solution!

If you're like me and blew this off until almost done with Chapter 3, then this could work for you! (I did it on ROCHE'S PATH, not sure if the other path will work).

Anyway, after selling all my belongings, i was only at 6,000 orens. I found a spot in Loc Muinne where harpies keep respawning so i just farmed them (see video for location). When there, just kill them all, loot all the goodies, then run around the corner or a good distance away where you can't see the harpy spawn and wait for 24 hours (or as close to 24 as you can get).

It doesn't take too long, happy grinding!

This is the big achievement that you must prepare for. First off, this is NOT cumulative, meaning you need to have 10000 at one time. There's a few different ways of making this easier.

One way is to just stockpile items, making sure to store anything unneeded in the chests found across each chapter. Then when you think you have enough; save, then sell everything. You can go back to your save once you've unlocked the achievement.

Chest Locations:

Chapter 1 - Southwest area of the lower level of the Flotsam inn, near the door to the brothel.
Chapter 2 (Roche's Path) - Outside the encampment by the brothel tents.
Chapter 2 (Iorveths Path) - Talk to the innkeeper and use the storage chest in his room at the Cauldron.
Chapter 3 - Inside the ruined building used as an inn southwest of the notice board in Loc Muinne.

On Iorveth's path (this can be done on Roche's path too, but you will have to progress in the chapter a bit before you can go to the area), you can farm the harpies in the canyon for their feathers and other items, and kill them over and over again for lots of orens. Harpy feathers weigh 0.1 lbs, so you can carry many, many of them before you're anywhere near the carry limit. After you kill them (there are approximately 15-20 in this area), return to the hut that overlooks the canyon and wait twenty four hours (meditate with  +  and then select "wait time") to repeat the process. This is also a decent XP farming method.

On Roche's path, this is honestly easier. In the Kaedwini camp, there is an opponent who will arm wrestle for 100 orens every single time and is there indefinitely. You will likely have a decent amount of orens already, so just keep arm wrestling him and betting the max amount and you'll have enough orens to buy or craft just about anything.

If you're really close to hitting the 10K mark and you don't want to grind, make a save in front of a merchant. Proceed to unequip everything and then sell your entire inventory to any merchant. The achievement will unlock after you hit 10000 orens, after which you should definitely reload your save to get all of your inventory back.
