THE WITCHER 3: WILD HUNT
78 Achievements
Even Odds
Kill 2 monsters you have a contract on without using Signs, potions, mutagens, oils or bombs.
How to unlock the Even Odds achievement in THE WITCHER 3: WILD HUNT - Definitive Guide
First when you get into town and leave the pub go over to the Notice Board and take the Contract: Devil by the Well follow the quest up to the battle. Fight the Noonwraith with ONLY your Silver Sword, DO NOT use an Oil, Potion, Sign, Bomb or Mutagen.
That's 1 down, second is going to be The Griffin in the main quest Beast of the White Orchard . You pick this quest up by following the Main quest Lilac and Gooseberries. Again follow the quest to the part where you meet Vessemir in the field and get the crossbow. I DID NOT USE THE CROSSBOW, I don't think that changes anything but just in case, don't use it. The battle is easy enough. Use ONLY your Silver Sword.
The achievement pops right after you defeat the Griffin.
Edit: You CAN drink water and eat food to heal during the fight
Edit 2: I took out the walkthroughs and added my own person fight recordings to the guide. I started a new save just to record these and from the first cutscene I finished both quests in around 35 minutes. Very easy with starting gear!
Edit 3: Sharpening your weapons WILL NOT void the achievement
Devil in the Well Fight:
Missable Achievement, if you complete the contracts before you pop that achievement.
- Signs
- Potions
- Mutagenic POTIONS (having mutagens eqipped is totally fine)
- Oils (on ANY of your swords, even though you don't use the oiled sword)
- Bombs
Anything else is completely permitted: Crossbows, any type of armour, sharpening weapons, eating foods etc. If it's not in the above list, it's permitted.
The only other requirement is the contract needs to involve the possibility of ending up in a monster "boss fight" but other solutions cover those parts well.
Immortal x Dead adds: If you have to use a potion as part of the requirement for the contract / kill, it DOES NOT prevent the achievement. F.e "Muire D'Yaeblen" contract on Skellige, which requires the use of the "Drowner pheromones" potion in order to complete.
If you haven't done this is White Arden, then the Contract Shrieker (Level 8) and An Elusive Thief (Level 13) in Velen/Novigrad are not that hard - also both Contract have their own Achievement. I did this with Level 11 and the Griffin Witcher Gear, pretty easy.
Are also good targets for this Achievement:
- The Merry Widow
- Muire D’yaeblen
- A Patron gone Missing
- Swap Thing

I hope this help a few people with this achievement.
This work on all difficulty level even though I pointed the fact that people on Death March will be happy to have a free and easy boss to get this achievement with.
After defeating the wraith; I used the nearby fast travel sign to return to White Orchard to sharpen my swords and replenish meat & drink and meditated until noon. I ignored the mission prompt to return to Odolan for my reward. Instead, I fast travelled back to the well. I saved again and fought the next wraith that appeared. As soon as I defeated her the achievement unlocked.
My game has the latest updates.
An easy way to do this is to start a new game on "Just a story" and skip all the dialogue. As soon as you get to "White orchard" do the "Devil by the Well" contract from the notice board, you can pretty much just button mash (using ) for an auto win.
Next continue with the story until you have to kill the gryphon. Killing the Gryphon will net you the trophy.
Of course you can do this mid playthrough, just remember to unequip your mutagens.
*Missable Trophy*
You must kill two contracted monsters without using any Signs, potions, oils, bombs, or having any mutagens equipped. We found the two that the easiest were the first two that you could complete: Devil by the Well and the Griffin from the main quest line, both are completed in the Prologue in White Orchard.
If one of these does not suit you, you can do this for any two of the 26 contracts available. Take a look at the Geralt: The Professional trophy to find which monster suits you best for this attempt.
Make sure to read through THIS THREAD and choose monsters that seem the weakest to you. Personally, I believe that the grave hag in "The Merry Widow" Contract and the water hag in the "Muire D'yaeblen" Contract are the easiest enemies to kill when going for this achievement. Other players may decide to take a different route and that's absolutely fine.
Just remember, when you're facing the contracted monster, you can only use your swords (Silver Sword). You won't be able to drink potions mid-battle, throw bombs, cast any Signs, coat your blades in oil, or have any mutagens equip! If you do, it will void progress towards the achievement. If there are smaller monsters/enemies around the contracted monster during the fight, you are allowed to use more than just the swords on them. Keep in mind that there are 26 contracts in the game, so this achievement is technically missable.
