How to unlock the Master Marksman achievement in THE WITCHER 3: WILD HUNT - Definitive Guide

Hello there I figured I'd try to help you folks who are trying to get this achievement.

First off, head to Devil's Pit in Velen. Even though you already cleared the place it still works. All you need to do is fast travel out of Velen; i.e: White orchard, and come back. Why this spot exactly is because you can stuck them by the door and they won't advance towards you which give you all the time in the world to carefuly aim at their head without having to dodge or parry. I used Axii as sign to make sure they wouldn't move also and it made this achievement less painful. Since you're at this spot you might want to clear a few other achievements.

The Witcher 3: Wild HuntThat Is the Evilest Thing…The That Is the Evilest Thing… achievement in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt worth 47 pointsIgnite the gas produced by a Dragon's Dream bomb using a burning opponent. Do this 10 times.

As I mentioned earlier they are stuck by the door so just go and grab all of them come back to the door, use your Fire sign; IGNI once they are on fire throw your Dragon's Dream bomb at them. Rinse and repeat till it's done.

The Witcher 3: Wild HuntHumpty DumptyThe Humpty Dumpty achievement in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt worth 56 pointsKill 10 opponents by knocking them off somewhere high with the Aard Sign.

This is the right spot again for this achievement, just go to the right as soon as you get in you'll see a few stairs and use the telekinetic sign; AARD to push them down. Once they're all dead, fast travel to White Orchard and come back.

The Witcher 3: Wild HuntThe Enemy of My EnemyThe The Enemy of My Enemy achievement in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt worth 43 pointsUse the Axii Sign to force one opponent to kill another. Do this 20 times.

Same strategy bring them all by the door use mind-control sign; AXII while holding the cn_RT to control the enemies. You'll need to put a few points in the AXII skill tree if you haven't already.

I hope it helps you guys! Thumbs up or down it's fine as long as you get them!

Will the kills count if I make a save before this and keep reloading save when I kill all the enemies rather then fast traveling somewhere and back?

There is a wonky either hit box or the aiming itself but not all "headshots" will register for whatever reason. I am now at 123 kills and counting so I'm sure this will unlock eventually I just wanna point out this problem. I've found mention of it on other sites as well so I'm not the only bad shot out there :D

Yes I've had alot of kills before the achievement popped. I just kept at it and eventually it worked. Good heads up and good luck !

You'll know you got a headshot since the camera will slightly shake. I found the best way to get a headshot is to have the difficulty at the lowest setting, shoot the enemy until they are low on health, cast Axii, move beside them then aim at the side of their head.

does this mean you have to get 50 human *AND* 50 non-humans for 100 kills?? or is 50 human and non-human combined?

By SneakyStabbalot on 27 May 2015 18:25
I'm pretty sure it's combined since I only killed bandits with headshots.

I am wondering if this achievement might be glitched. I have killed over 200 enemies by shooting them in the head, yet the achievement still hasn't unlocked for me. I am stunning them with Axii and shooting them directly in the head using manual aiming. Am I doing it wrong?

-Not even a screen of the Devil's Pit Location
-Not even explaining if killing monsters does count for the achiev, or at least say something about the "human or no-human" which may be a bit confusing

Can somebody confirm that the camera shakes when you get a headshot ? I don't think so

There is a screenshot of Devil's Pit Location and as I stated earlier it doesn't matter if you kill humans or not as I got mine by only killing bandits which tell you that it does count for both. Since I didn't even use my crossbow on one single non-humans.

Pro-tip: If you sheath your sword and THEN use your crossbow, you will do the proper amount of damage. It's been noted that you will do close to 225% more damage this way.

With the hitbox being so crappy, I am going to try the perk which gives a 25% crit chance and just auto aim it. Headshot kills seem to make the screen shake and I get that about 25% of the time. It's easier to watch TV while grinding.

Buggiest Achievement in the game; just keep plugging away in this spot; I probably had 150 headshots and another 50 shoulder kills before it unlocked. Don't worry about the screen or controller vibrating, mine didn't even once....pretty certain that's in someone's imagination.

By AG Bucky Barnes on 04 Jun 2015 21:00
I think the screen wobble is when you land a critical hit. Regardless if its a headshot or not, would assume the critical hit rate is a lot higher for a headshot ... but not 100% of the time.

Do you "have" to fast travel with this? can anyone confirm if reloading your save before you head into the pit works?

S I got 60 headshots with camera shake but still no achievement, therefore I think its actually 100 headshots not 50. The description says 50 human *and* nonhuman not *or* so maybe its 50 x 2 ?

Finally got this after a good 200+ kills. Definitely more than 50 of them shaky screen crits. It eventually popped after an unremarkable normal headshot. There seems to be no rhyme nor reason for this achievement. When it pops, it pops...

It may be coincidence, but I've found using Superior Thunderbolt potion seems to increase the headshot kill rate. At least it seems to increase the 'screen shake' headshot rate, assuming this is what signifies a proper headshot kill...

I made over 300 kills in Devil's pit without it popping. After 3 hours I properly started counting "shakes" At 70 I gave up again. It finally popped after another 50-70 kills. But this time I: Hit the target with a quickshot arrow. Then a single shot AXII. When they were asleep their heads drop forward and I would stand to their side, stand as close as I could, and do an aimed shot at the head. Most of the time I would get a screen shake.

Completed tonight, took about 4 hours. Very poorly executed achievement given terrible hit detection and enemy pathing. Not sure I would have devoted the time without the invisible barrier. Still didn't make it much easier. Best advice is the Axii method. Take extra time with the guys without helmets/with cloth caps - those are your best bet. Aim for top, back of head - but not too far on top because, of course, you shoot right through that part of their head without registering a hit. Put on a baseball game to distract yourself and hope for extra innings...

What I did is use Zordnil's comment and just to add the bolts don't go through the enemy's helmets, so to get a "headshot" is to use axii and stun them. Then get to the back left of them and fire below the helmet on the jaw and most of these will count. Hopefully this will make this buggy cheevo go a bit faster.

I mean, the least they can do is make the bolts persist on the corpse so you can tell if it WAS a headshot. I don't know how many time I hit the guy's arm or shoulder as he refused to stand still.

By igropeburgers on 08 Sep 2015 18:08
By the way, the cross bow is probably the worst part of the game. The hit system with it is ridiculously flawed. The cross bows also arc way to fast. To arc over long distances I understand, but 10 feet in front of you, the bolt should go straight...

That's the least enjoyable of all achievement. I got after staying a long time going back and forth into the devil's Pit several times, and certainly killed more than 50 guys with headshots. In some deaths happened to the camera shake, not others. But after a long time, I got the achievement. Thanks for the guide.

To be honest the hitboxes are pretty solid, the achievement sucks though. My biggest grief is that humans with helmets don't let the arrows throug. You need to hit them in the neck or cheek...

After following all the usual tips and getting 100+ headshots and no achievement, I restarted my xbox and tried using an ordinary crossbow (had used both the feline and ursine bows before with a variety of bolts). I read a comment somewhere that suggested switching crossbows. It popped on my first headshot. I don't know if it was a coincidence or not but that is how I finally unlocked it.

Ok so mine just popped. I spent a considerable amount of time doing this whilst just reloading a save. It would appear that you do need to fast travel out of the area for the kills to not reset. I went to vizima and back. Pretty sure this is the only way, I also did the same for the axii achievement.

Got this achievement after about 40 minutes of the Devil's Pit location. Turned my difficulty all the way to the easiest, and started with stronger bolts and ending with the infinite bolts. Screen shook majority of the time, however a couple of kills I got the bolt would literally be sticking out of their head, with no shake.

I also remember enemies following me outside the gate when trying this at lower levels. While trying this again at level 38 I couldn't hit them with a sword, as it would kill them. As such I took down each enemy with 7-8 crossbow bolts; the last one to the head. This time not a single enemy followed me through the gate. So it hasn't been patched yet.

I don't understand how this makes any logical sense, but I unlocked the achievement with a shaky cam kill. My best advice would be to aim for the face as someone mentioned above, as it seems that bolts that hit helmets/hats do not count as headshots?

My enemies don't follow me through the gate, so idk, but not patched at all.

I did it on the lowest difficult, one punch, then igni (firestorm) until the enemy was nearly dead, aim for the head, hope that it counts. ~ 2 hours.

If anyone is still working on this achievement: I am not sure if the thing about doing more damage when keeping your sword sheathed is correct, but I would still do it to be sure. You can turn of automatic sword unsheathing in the settings, so you don't have to constantly put away your sword.

Also, if you are farming Devil's Pit, you should run out into the fields a bit every time you've cleared it. There is a pack of wild dogs, which are level 1. Using axii you can get 5 or 6 extra headshots for each time you come back.

I'd highly advise against using split bolts. I used these for hours to no avail. After switching to precision and infinity bolts it just finally popped.

By THE OOZ on 01 Jan 2020 00:12
I used normal bolts on this and have read elsewhere that a head shot only registers when the screen "shakes violently". Although this happened sometimes, the last 5-6 kills I got did not shake before the achievement popped so I don't think that is necessary to have happen.

Maybe a no brainer but if you played on DM difficulty, drop it down after you beat the game for quicker kills.. speeds up the grind.

A few tips that might help people out with this one completing it post-game
- ensure enemy scaling is off
- normal (infinite) crossbow bolts are fine
- Devil’s Pit just outside the gate is the place to go - fast travel to Vizima to respawn then come straight back
- rile the enemy with a quick igni blast just inside the gate, usually gets about 5 heading over before I went to reset via fast travel
- SHEATHE YOUR SWORD. Much more potent hits if you do
- here’s a big one. Don’t manually aim every single shot. You can auto aim approx five shots which will take their health down to just a sliver, then aim. This not only makes it quicker, but also for some reason gave me more critical hits.
- the screen doesn’t need to shake every time. Mine certainly didn’t shake 50 times.
- you can use Axii as well but I gave up on that towards the end
- the Lighting Reflexes and Trick Shot abilities are your friends

People saying the screen doesnt need to shake are wrong ive killed probably 100+ dudes, maybe 30 or so times, hopefully 40, it shook on a headshot, while the other 60-70+ shots i aimed at the head that certainly seem/look like headshots, definitely arent counting. Hopefully ive miscounted and i want to be wrong, but after about a 45 min grind i've still not got this yet. I'll put up with it until i've counted 20 screen shaking headshots and see if I've gotten the cheivo. To anyone trying for this 1, try aiming high on the head. Headshots are janky, cheivo's annoying, fu,ck this achievement. Tedious af.

If it glitches and didn't pop after 50 headshots, hard reset your xbox, load the game up and get one more headshot. I know I got at least 75 headshots with screen shake and it only unlocked once I hard reset. Hope this helps.

I spent 2-3 nights and probably racked up around 200-300 head shot kills. Eventually I simply did a hard-reset on my Xbox One X (hold the power down to cycle fully). When I booted the game back up, it popped the next time I went through the Devil's Pit. I believe it popped a non-shaking kill. By far one of the most frustrating achievements I've gone for lately.

Once you've used Axii, their heads will usually nod off to the side. When that happens: AIM AT THE BACK OF THEIR HEADS! Not at their faces. The screen will shake almost 100% of the time.

Also, SHEATH YOUR SWORD before using your crossbow! Your attack power bonus on your crossbow only counts if you put your sword away. Even the infinite bolts can get 200+ attack power that way (depending on level/crossbow/etc). Do not unequip your swords, that doesn't help.

yeah definately a screwed up achievement, going on 3hrs and approximately 120 headshot kills so far, it only shakes 1 in every three kill and I stun them and get about a foot from head every time so no chance of missing really, just gotta keep killing till you get it seeing it doesn't register every kill. Like I said for every 3 killed it is most likely 1 kill

Having just did this after the recent DLC I can confirm that the Cat Eyes mutation helps make this faster. (Which actually makes the crossbow a useful weapon)

I combined that with a fully stacked Anatomical Knowledge and had my Crit Hit Chance at 80%.

Something else I think is important to note, neither this achievement nor Hasta La Vista was popping for me even though I was certain I had met the requirements for them.
I hard reset my Xbox and both of them popped on my very first attempt at getting both of them.

Got it yesterday following everything that had been said in several guides here so just a small add: don't try to do it in NG+!

I first tried it there but since there is no crossbow upgrades, your crossbow does the same amount of damage (90-100) that it did in your first run of the game.
So I needed more than 10 bolts by enemy. (they were around level 42 since I finished the game being 36)

I reloaded the save I had from after finishing the game and only needed 3 bolts (2 fired quickly, and the 3rd I would aim for the head)
(there, they were level 6 and I was 36)

Hope it helps.

Instead, head to Trottheim in Skellige. just above the town is an infinite spawn of 2 pirates. You can use these to clear any of the combat cheevs. When you kill them, just walk away, turn the cam around and they'll respawn. Do not set a marker as this seens to stop them spawning

And its still and buggy as it has been since 2015. a tracker on the achievement bar would of been a great update

I dont know what is wrong with this achievement. If its broken hitboxes or poorly formulated achievement description. All i know is its very annoying.

After reading this and other guides as well as google it i did this:

1. Get and activate the marksmanship skills "Lightning Reflexes" and "Anatomical Knowledge". Axii Sign skill "Delusion" is also handy.

2. Buy or make Precision Bolts (you get feathers from geese in towns).

3. In options->display->hud config, turn on action log.

4. Go to devils pit and try to engage the deserters one by one, and sheathe you sword when in combat to do more damage.

5. Either use Axii or just aim your crossbow (lighning reflexes will slow time), get in close and shoot at the head. If you can get in point blank range thats great.

The action log you hopefully turned on will show "Geralt strikes a critical hit" in yellow if successful. The text disappears rather quick but this way you can be a bit more sure if it will count towards the achievement.

At lvl 35 with the feline crossbow, precision bolts and my sword sheathed i would get one-shot kills.

Before following these steps i had tried getting headshots for a couple of hours. After following these steps i started counting all yellow text kills in the log and got the achievement on the 26th kill, but those 26 kills did not take more then 35-45 minutes.

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet but you can unlock this while using the cat eyes mutation. I was afraid it might not work since my screen wasn't shaking nearly as often as without it but it did unlock. Very useful on deathmarch ng+ if you don't want to lower the difficulty. Personally, I recommend going for face shots only and not side/back/top of the head. Didn't bother to much with axii. Most of my kills were when they were charging at me or taunting. I used the gate glitch to safely lower their health with a few shots then rolled behind them to be on even ground to line up the face shots.

I just want to make another guide for this achievement as there were a few things that kept me from getting this to pop after 100's of kills.

First thing you want to do is go to The Devils Pit in Velen. This area has about 10-15 Human guards.
When you get to the actual pit, you will see an opened gate. You need to run in and agro as many of the guards as you can then head back just outside the gate and the guards will all pile up at the gate as if they can't get through. This makes it easy to get headshots.

Second thing is that when you are going for the headshots, make sure that the only damage you are doing to them is with the crossbow.(Not 100% confirmed but like I said, I killed hundreds prior to following this technique as before I was damaging them with fire first and got nowhere.)

The last thing which is quite IMPORTANT is to note that when you line all the guards up and you have damaged them enough to go for the headshot kill, make sure you have all the upgrades to slow time and stuff and watch carefully as when you kill them, to clarify whether you get a headshot kill or not depends on whether your screen shakes. If when the target dies, your screen shakes it will mean you have got a headshot. If your screen doesn't shake then it means that no matter how accurate you think you were, the headshot will not count.

(A good way to help this achievement out a bit is that when an enemy is close to death and you are ready to go for the headshot kill, you can use AXII to stun them still as AXII will not cause damage.)

Once you have the rhythm you simply need to kill all the enemies and when they are all dead, you need to fast travel to another city to them come back for them to respawn. (Fast Travel to Vizima and back as Vizima has the fastest loading time.)

I have linked this video below to where I got all this advice from and after following this guide exactly, the achievement popped with no problems.

Please Note - You can also clear up a bunch of other achievements in The Devils Pit as the enemies will continuously respawn after Fast Travelling away and coming back.

I don't think it is confirmed as of yet but I would suggest one playthrough just to be safe. Just keep a save alive if you've already completed the game so you can continue to go back to it to clear some stuff up in your spare time.

Be aware that if you Un equip your steel sword you can do about 2.5x damage. I was doing about 93 with the sword out and about 250 without it out. As you will keep drawing your sword with it equipped, it's easier just to un equip it

Good call on unequipping your steel sword, I kept a silver one handy in case I needed to defend myself but it didn't prove necessary. I whittled down the enemies health by spamming RB (no sword or sign damage, though not sure if it matters) then stunned with Axii and, where possible, flanked them so their head protruded out meaning that if I made the kill it'd more than likely be a headshot. Quite often I found that the bolts would pass through the very tops of their head/helmet, so I'd suggest the problem with the achievement is shoddy hit boxes. Still, using regular infinite supply bolts and with no archery skills whatsoever I got it after 90 odd kills at Devil's Pit. Not that bad really.

Also, the shakey cam does not denote a headshot kill, but when you kill on a critical hit. Take out a couple of guys by just tapping RB and you'll see, though I suppose it's reasonable to suggest that a headshot would trigger a critical hit, so while not a guarantee of a headshot kill it may provide a rough indication.

The cam shake aspect of your guide is misleading. I had over 100 camshake headshots before the achievement popped. It popped on a non shake headshot. I think there are factors at work concerning headshots that have nothing to do with shaking and are likely not entirely within the players control.

Best way is to save the game, buy a potion of clearance and buy some precision bolts. Head to Devil's pit and reallocate your skill points into archery.

See my video below for help with this achievement.

Here's some extra tips to make this go faster:
Once they're ready for a headshot: use Axii. Then when you get a chance: AIM AT THE BACK OF THEIR HEADS!

All the other solutions are great, though I was not looking forward to having to reload Devil's Pit/Velen then the other world location over and over, so I left this achievement until later. If you're willing to save this achievement until the Blood and Wine expansion, there is a much more fun way to get this.

Once you reach the new mutagens in this addon, you'll want to develop Cat Eyes in the top-right. Description to this mutagen is as follows:

Crossbow damage is now increased from 127 to 812 (values depend on crossbow used), and crossbow critical chance is increased by 50%. Crossbow bolts pierce and knock down or stun opponents. Opponents struck when they have full Vitality lose 15% of Vitality.

Using this mutagen, as well as the above recommendations (Lightning Reflexes, Anatomical Knowledge, Steady Shot), I was able to kill level 40 bandits in 2 shots, even with just basic (unlimited) bolts. With this setup, I was able to get the 50 headshots from just clearing the Hanse Bases. If you don't kill the leader, the enemies will respawn, but I didn't need to do that, was plenty of bandits to shoot in the face.

Devil's Pit is probably easier, but this was certainly more fun that watching more loading screens.

There's a place in Skellige, on the Faroe island, where a pair of pirates continually spawn just by walking away of that spot. No need to quick travel anywhere, making it a LOT faster to achieve.

Just fast travel to Trottheim, (its on the southeastern part of Skellige), and follow the path to the west of the village that goes straight north following the coast. You should see the pirates on the northernmost part of the isle near a cliff. Kill them, walk away, and they should respawn. Keep at it till it pops.

This is an addition to the Col Coffee's solution. He did a great job discovering that the screen shakes when you get a headshot. However, it is unclear where to hit in order to get the headshot. This solution may not be %100 effective, however it will increase the odds that you get a headshot.

- HIT THE ENEMIES IN THE FACE! Do not hit them in their helmets or hats, hit them in the middle of their faces.
- DO NOT HIT THE ENEMIES IF THEY ARE NOT FACING YOU! If an enemy is looking to left or right, do not hit them because it decreases the chance you get a headshot. Also if they are looking down and their helmets cover most of their face, wait until you see their face clearly.

There are 9 enemies in Devil's Pit, I was able to get 5-6 kills each time by hitting them in the face which will decrease the number of times you need to quick travel quite a bit.

Nobody has mentioned this, but if you go into HUD settings and turn on damage description, that will really help you know when you get a critical shot via a yellow message. I would actually only count those as headshots.

Also, not sure if it is mentioned, but quick travelling to Vinzema is the quickest fast travel, White Orchard takes way too long in comparison.

Finally, I read this tip somewhere and it seemed to work a treat for me. Always aim for the face, but for some reason (maybe hit box related?) Aiming at the right side of the face seemed to account for more success. Agro the first few chimps from Devils Pit, and then I recommend going in and taking on the last few out one by one, one on one. Get your Axxi topped up, but don't puppet, just stun. Once you stun, you can strafe around to the right side of the head and guarantee a critical shot.

Obviously, as previously mentioned, get your arrow shooting skills up so time slows down, this will help you dramatically.

Pop a film on another screen and have patience. This cheevo is in no way glitched, it just requires a quite boring grind.

This achievement is quite tedious because the crossbow isn't that useful to begin with and the game is fairly picky (some would say random) about what it considers a headshot.

The best place to grid this is the Devil's Pit in Velen. There's a fast travel point just outside the pit. When you go in there are a bunch of human mercenaries (10 or so) inside. You can go inside and run around to get the attention of most of them. If you then head out toward the entrance you'll discover that they bunch up at the gate to the main area, but won't follow you further. You can then carefully and slowly try to line up headshots with the crossbow. Depending on how much damage you are doing with the crossbow, the first shot or three can hit the body since only the kill has to be to the head, but you're better off always trying to hit the head for practice and just in case.

Once you've killed them all this way, go into the pit to pick up a few more, then use the fast travel point to go somewhere else, then immediately return to respawn everyone in the pit.

Unfortunately, you'll have to kill substantially more than 50 individuals to get the achievement since it won't count many of them as headshot kills, no matter how careful you are in aiming at their heads. Supposedly, the screen shakes slightly when the game registers a headshot kill, but there are reports that people have gotten the achievement when it doesn't shake or have counted way more than 50 shakes without getting the achievement, so its not guarantee of success.

There are a couple of crossbow related perks that make this a little easier, in particular the one that slows time when you aim. Doing more damage and using a more powerful crossbow speeds things up but doesn't necessarily make it much easier.

There are a few other achievements that you can farm here fairly easily as well, so if you get tired of working on headshots, you can take a break by knocking the bandits off the ledges with Aard to farm the Humpty Dumpty Achievement, for example.

The Witcher 3: Wild HuntHumpty DumptyThe Humpty Dumpty achievement in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt worth 24 pointsKill 10 opponents by knocking them off somewhere high with the Aard Sign.

Hey everyone, just want to say that all these guides are fantastic and well written. Want to add on that I personally had it this achievement glitch and it didn't pop after 50 headshots. I made sure to only count the ones when the screen shook. I did 25 more just to be safe and no achievement popped. The fix if this happens to you is to hard reset your Xbox. Start the game up and get one more headshot and it should pop. I don't know why this happens or why this worked but I figured if anyone else is in this position I would pass on this info. Good luck.

Spoiler sections are just to break up the text for easy navigation and sectioning, I do not believe anything in this guide is a real spoiler.

I was adding a comment to the other guide here but it ended up being longer then their guide so thought id add it as its own guide (sorry redface):
As the previous guide said a good place to grind this is "Devil Pit" in Velen. Fast travelling to Vezima and back to respawn the bad dudes.
WARNING! This will stop working if you loot the chests in the devil pit as it will no longer be an active bandit camp!

FYI, Non Humans is the collective name used in game for Elves and Dwarfs so this is not referring to Monsters.

Use strong bolt that don't have a side effect

Do it on easy!

Bow crit is King

Devil pit gate is glitched

Not all head shots are head shots

This one is not hard, just repetative.

1. Get yourself a bunch of bolts (the higher the damage the better) and a "potion of clearance".
2. Use the potion and max out your crossbow tree under "Combat Skills" (Its the second one from the right). After maxing that one, put a point into your armor school and "Steady Shot" under the "General" tree. Using this will maximize your damage output with your crossbow.
3. Head to "Devils pit" in Velen, head into the camp and hit the bandits until they are low.Now for the tricky part, hit them in the head and kill them with your crossbow. Aim somewhere around their hair line to be sure you get the head shot.
4. When all the bandits are dead (be sure not to loot any chests or such) just head up and fast travel to Vezima and back, the bandits have now respawned. Repeat until you are done.

As mentioned this aint to hard just repetative and rather slow.
A useful tip if you find yourself geting swarmed. Head out the way you came. The bandits can't leave the camp. So you can stand on the other side of the wooden doorway and just take your time aiming and they will never reach you.

You will obtain the crossbow towards the end of the prologue. It is best to do this on the easiest difficulty, so you can save it for after you complete the main quest and obtained the trophy by beating the game on Death March.

You will need to kill 50 opponents with headshots using the crossbow. The best place to grind this out is the Devil's Pit Bandit Camp in Velen. Kill every bandit in the area and fast travel to another region and then return. As long as you have not looted the chests around the area, they will respawn. Keep repeating this until you have killed 50 and unlocked the trophy.

It is best if you obtain and max out the skills: Lightning Reflexes and Anatomical Knowledge in the Combat Tree, and Steady Shot in the General Tree. You should also unequip your swords, as you will do more damage with your crossbow without them. You will also know if you successfully obtained a headshot kill by the vibration of the controller and the shaky screen.

After the next-gen update, the best location to get the achievement for killing 50 human and nonhuman opponents by striking them in the head with a crossbow bolt, appears to be Northwest of Trottheim, in Skellige.

There is a location in which pirates respawn endlessly. Pop off headshots on the pirates, save your game, meditate, and repeat. Very tedious but this seems to be the most reliable method after the update.

The easiest way to locate the pirates is to take the road West, and then North out of Trottheim. Follow the road as far North as you can go; you will find the pirates on the cliff's edge, near the curve in the road.

The crossbow is unlocked in Geralt's arsenal towards the end of the Prologue's main story mission entitled, "Lilacs and Gooseberries." As for killing 50 opponents with headshots, remember you can aim the crossbow manually by holding the right bumper. Also, despite the achievement's description stating nonhumans count towards the total, these foes (Dwarves, Elves, etc.) are not commonly present in the game. Thus, you will have to focus on killing 50 human enemies with crossbow headshots.

An excellent "grinding" method for this achievement takes place at the Devil's Pit Bandit Camp in Velen. So long as you do not loot the valuables in the chests around the camp, you can kill all the humans in the area, leave and fast travel to another region (Vizima or Skellige), and then return to the Bandit Camp. This will make it so that all the bandits have respawned.

Take note that headshot detection can be shoddy at times, but when your controller vibrates aggressively and the screen shakes, you'll know you landed a headshot kill. Additionally, it's worth investing skill points and maxing out the Combat Tree's "Lighting Reflexes" and "Anatomical Knowledge" skills, as well as the General Tree's "Steady Shot" skill when working on this task. Once you've amassed a total of 50 headshot kills on human enemies, this achievement will unlock.

Firstly, the description is a little incorrect, you don’t just need to kill 50 opponents (people, elves) with a headshot, you need to kill 50 opponents with a critical headshot . Here's the easiest way to do it:

1) Place for boosting Devil's Pit. There are about 7-10 robbers of levels 7-9 there, before the first gate from the quarry they stop and do not run after you. As soon as you kill everyone there, go to Vizima (the fastest loading location) and go back to the quarry, all the robbers will be reborn.

2) Before boosting the trophy, you can save and reset your skills afterwards to improve your Lightning Reflexes (slowing down time when aiming) and Knowledge of Anatomy +25% on the probability of a critical hit from a crossbow.

3) It is also advisable for you to have a decoction of katakana, it increases the likelihood of any critical hit by 10%, the toxicity is 100% for 30 minutes. With it you will end up with a 35% chance of crit on a crossbow hit.

4) If you are level 29+ then take a cat school crossbow for another +2% crit chance.

In about an hour and a half you can get this trophy from scratch using this method.

Tales about critical damage are complete nonsense. Got the trophy simply by taking the last, fatal shot to the head, Helped by Axiem to immobilize the enemy.

Knocked out a trophy at level 35. I set the difficulty to minimum. He took the sword (sort of like when you don’t have a sword in your hands, the crossbow hits “more painfully”). He took the cat’s crossbow. I bought bolts for +100 armor penetration from a blacksmith in Oxenfurt. Used excellent thunder and axiom of the first stage. All enemies in the devil's pit under such conditions took one shot with a crit. Spent 30-35 minutes on everything.

If there is the Blood and Wine add-on, everything is done simply.
According to the plot of the add-on, you mutate. Geralt gains new abilities and among them is a kill with 1 shot from a crossbow. Download it and go to the “Devil’s Pit” in Velen, kill the local Pechenegs, respawn, and so on until the trophy drops.

- boost the trophy AFTER completing the storyline in the Devil's Pit; There are no screensavers in downloads, which gives quick transitions!
- after clearing we “jump” to Vizima and back
- Geralt lvl 29-35
- any complexity
- remove swords from cells - damage increases to 250-265 (with thunder)
- crossbow of the Kota school lvl 29
- any arrows except explosive ones
- skills: Knowledge of anatomy and Eagle eye
- tactics: at the gate or, stop the enemy with Axiem with 10-20% HP and shoot at the jug from close or medium distance

You don't have to get critical kills. I dropped a trophy after a routine fatal headshot. But this is what I think is most mandatory, so what you need is aimed almost at the very center of the head, not at the sides or at the neck, but precisely at the center. There are about 10 people in the devil's pit, and the trophy fell to me only on the 12th transition to the location. Despite the fact that I shot everyone in the head. So aim very accurately, otherwise the kill will not count towards the required number.

p.s. and yes, this is the most moronic and idiotic trophy that could ever be invented in the game.

In addition to the above, I wanted to add. The following trick helped me. I noticed that opponents cannot go beyond the opening gate in the pit. Therefore, I ran through the entire location, aggroed all the NPCs on myself and ran out of the gate (a couple of steps). After that, all the NPCs crowded into the front line and all that remained was to finish them off with a crossbow. I also think this method will help in completing the achievement of setting fire to the “Dragon’s Dream” with the help of burning enemies (That Is the Evilest Thing… / Living Fuse)

After finding all the cards, this trophy is the most boring....Not necessarily a critical hit. Apparently not all hits to the head count. When you kill, the screen cracks in your head - they count it as a murder. The trophy just dropped and the last kill was a non-critical hit. I set the game to the minimum difficulty level and played in the “devil’s pit” - about 40 minutes and the trophy is mine. It’s better to kill at close range then the probability is 80%.

I confirm! Just got a trophy for a NONCRITICAL headshot kill with a crossbow. This was the 67th person killed. Perhaps he missed before, perhaps, somehow only the most accurate hits to the head are counted, but the trophy fell exactly after a non-critical hit.

Finally, there is an easy way. You don’t need to boost anything. Just after the story, start extra blood and wine. Complete the first story quest and the “change” quest will appear. There you will go through a mutation and in the mutation, upgrade the “cat’s eyes” skill, and the skills are also lightning fast reflexes and knowledge of anatomy. While you are exploring Tusaint, the achievement will fall out. Just finish off the robbers in the head and that’s it.

also an addition to the first tip - you can take the skill - cat school technique - for each element of armor (that is, you can wear a total of 7 elements) increases the crit by 25%, very convenient, sometimes it destroys half of the enemy’s life when you hit the head.

not so difficult, in principle. You need to know three things:

1) critical shot = "screen shakes"
2) at the easiest level - enemies are killed faster
3) invisible wall at the gate of the devil's pit

well, work with the same save

and everything is fine - for example, I knocked out when I counted exactly 50 killed with a critical headshot

No Critical damage is required. From the beginning of the game I started finishing off weakened soldiers with a crossbow. Weak and Unpumped. There was no question of any crits. By the first battle in Kaer Morhen, he had already received the trophy.

Knocked out a trophy at the Devil's Pit location
I'll say this for sure:
-knocked out 52 dead
-more than half of them were NOT critical shots (so crit is not important at all)
-Aksiy didn’t use it, he simply brought them three at a time to the gate, brought them to “ecstasy” with a sword and finished them off with a crossbow.
-used regular bolts and a crossbow from the cat school
-the last shot was critical.
In half an hour I knocked it out in the “story only” mode.

It’s better to take a crossbow from the bear school, it has a +5% chance of a critical hit)

I didn’t intentionally put anything on crits. Mutagen cat’s eyes! Level 53 against Deserters of the 9th. He knocked it down on the first serve. Restarted the Devil's Pit moving to Vizima. Aksiy periodically used it. The main thing is to hit the head, crit is not necessary

I would also like to add that the piggy bank (50 pieces) includes those mobs, when killed, on the left side of the screen closer to the middle, CRITICAL HIT will be written in YELLOW font. I also advise you to take a crossbow from the bear school, where Crete is 5%, unlike the cat school (there is 2%)

In the PS5 update (ver. 4.0.0) a glitch with a pit was fixed. So it’s most convenient to choose a trophy from pirates on Skelig.

Knocked out this trophy, the last kill was a normal shot, the screen did not shake, the shot was not critical.

I noticed this moment, I killed about 40 mobs using the bolts that you insert into the slot, then they ran out, and I continued shooting with regular ones (those that are endless), I killed about 60 mobs from above, there was no trophy, so I decided to try to insert the bolts into the slot just where through 10 heads of the trophy flew out.

I started shooting enemies from lvl 1, by lvl 20 slowly, with simple shots, without any pitfalls you will get this achievement. Keep it simple

I declare with full responsibility that finishing with a critical hit is NOT necessary. I just won this trophy in the last patch, when the count of critical finishes to my head reached 37, and the rest were not critical. The trophy is very easy.

I think there are probably enough hints already, but the CAT'S SET + CAT'S CROSSBOW is not bad at giving headshot kill crit. 1 out of 2 shots was a CRIT.

Absolutely nothing complicated, a cat's crossbow, a blow with a sword (so that there are fewer lives left) becomes a sign, a crossbow shot at the head, repeat until the trophy falls out!
Another useful point is that the enemies do not go beyond the gate, they crowd into them in a bunch

It's best not to attempt headshots without using an Axis or Samum. He killed more than 50 people this way, but apparently nothing was counted. As a result, I had to go for a second pass with the constant use of axia. Perhaps I was the only one who had this problem, but I advise you not to risk it

On Skellige, where we complete the achievement with Ard, we continue to torment 2 pirates.
Having reset the skills, I upgraded Axiy and crossbow skills to the maximum. On auto-aim, I brought my health to a minimum, stunned (there is a skill in the branch where you can stun 2 of them at once) and shot their heads. Less than an hour later, the achievement was completed.

The skill “Lightning Reflexes”, “Knowledge of Anatomy”, “Staying Shot” and the “Cat Eyes” mutation decide! Made on Skellige, where two pirates appear endlessly. This location is shown in the tooltip for the trophy for throwing the Aard sign into the abyss. It took about 30 minutes for everything, maybe even less. Enemies are killed with two shots. I always shot in the head, sometimes for some reason the leg was shown to be the point of impact, but in the end, in my calculations, everything was counted as the head.

One of the simplest trophies. Set up the slowdown skill when aiming with a crossbow. We reduce HP to a minimum and shoot in the head. I did it on easy difficulty.

did it for 5 hours, as I understand it, only when the screen starts to shake, a very tedious achievement for everyone to have patience in receiving it

This seems to be the most idiotic trophy in the game.

I just knocked it out after sitting on the bourgeois forums, so here are a couple of nuances for you:

1) Humanoid opponents do NOT include humanoid-like monsters, don’t try to kill them on neckers and drowners. And don't look at the fact that the English clue says "humanand nonhuman opponents". We are talking about all sorts of elves and others.

2) There was an idea that headshots always give critical damage, but I’m not sure how true it is. But the last one before the fall the enemy was killed precisely by a critical shot.

3) It’s not bad to knock out in the “devil’s pit” in Velen. If you killed everyone there, then teleport to the white garden. and then back - respawn is guaranteed.

They also say that a shot to the head, unlike a shot, say, to the leg, is accompanied by vibration. Maybe it will be like this for you, but for me it vibrated from any hit.

And may strength and patience be with you in obtaining this bronze. Especially patience.

Skelige, Faroe Island, Trondheim village. Again, a place where two pirates respawn. You run up and hit one (one weak blow), then the second. You cast Axis on one (so as not to interfere), wait for Axis to recover, and cast it on the other. Then go point blank to the second one and shoot him in the head with a crossbow. The first one to wake up is Aksiy again, we approach him point-blank and shoot at the head with a crossbow. Then we retreat to the road, the pirates respawn and repeat everything. 20-30 minutes and the trophy is yours. And there is no need to fly anywhere by fast passage......

It only took about 25 minutes of preparation. There is nothing complicated about the trophy.
1) As we already wrote, we choose Skellige, the village of Trottheim - on the Devil's Pit for a very long time.

2) If you have already finished the game, turn the difficulty down to minimum
3) Disable increasing the level of opponents
4) We study 2 skills: lightning-fast reflexes and knowledge of anatomy
5) There is a mutation “Cat Eyes” - it also adds a percentage to the crit of the crossbow
6)As the game progresses, you can discover “new moon” armor - it also adds a percentage to the crossbow’s crit
7)Craft bolts with increased armor penetration
8) Katakana decoction
9)Bear Crossbow
Total = 90% chance of crit damage.

In order not to mislead people and distract from all the tips, I’ll say it simpler -
Buy composite bolts and go into that very “devil's pit”.
Crit or not, the camera shook or not, BUT if the sight was aimed at the head and the enemy was defeated, then the kill COUNTABLE.
Where such confidence?
You see, the compound bolt will one-shot if the difficulty is easy and Geralt is uber-level.
I bought 50 compound bolts from a blacksmith in Novigrad and the trophy fell out, pay attention, on the 38th bolt, which means that during the course of the game I did kill 12 people in the head, but since I didn’t bother with the trophy and didn’t aim, these were kills by simply pressing .
There is no need for any tricks or complications, aim at the skull and shoot, that’s all.
I don’t know why this trophy scares so many people.

Guys, everything I read above is complete confusion. I just took the trophy, I’m telling you the 100% version. We port into the pit, make a circle at the bottom and go out to the gate, where the enemies are clustered. We take turns taking each HP down to a minimum, then axes and aiming at the head. Teleport to the Vizim castle and again to the pit. 50 head shots and the trophy is yours.
I made a trophy after completing the entire story and both expansions. Level 53, equipped with Cat Grandmaster and Cat Crossbow. I did not transfer skills to crits and crossbows. At this level, my enemies in the pit were lvl 9. From a crossbow, HP is reduced to a minimum in 4-5 shots

Completed at level 28.
1. set the easiest difficulty level
2. turn off level increases
3. enable the battle log in the settings
4. buy a potion in Novigrad to reset abilities
5. we run to the location with two pirates, which have been written about here more than once
6. Save, reset abilities, pump up the crossbow ability to level 1, which slows down time and the Share sign to the first and fourth levels.
7. put regular arrows, remove all swords
8. We approach the opponents, with our fists we destroy each of them up to 10-15%, we use the promotion sign on each of them
9. We begin to aim the crossbow at the top of the mob’s head when it lowers its head at a distance of one and a half meters and slightly from a hill.
10. An indicator of the correct kill is the shaking of the screen during a kill and the yellow inscription about a critical hit in the battle log.

There is nothing to add to what is written above, I just wanted to share my method. We set the difficulty level to the easiest, equip a crossbow, it will fit best of all, it doesn’t matter what bolts you use. I personally was dressed entirely in masterful wolf armor. Two shots to the body (auto-aim) and then throw an axis, the victim slightly tilts his head forward, which easily allows you to hit him. It is important to have the right position! After I threw the axies, I stood on the side and shot. The approximate time to receive this achievement is 30-50 minutes.

I made the achievement before patch 1.07, not always with crit shots, after the patch I look - the achievement was reset, I refill it. =(

After the Blood and Wine expansion, in the Mutations section, you study Cat's Eyes. In the line of yellow skills, choose Eagle Eye. In the fencing line, you learn all the skills of working with a crossbow. Elixirs: Excellent Thunder. Decoctions: Katokan and Glavoglaz (the latter is optional, since the damage depends on the total weight carried), Water Woman. Crossbow with maximum attack (available in Toussaint). I hit Geralt with the crossbow I won in the tournament.
Difficulty level is minimal. Location - Devil's Pit. The quickest ones were stopped by Axiem. The crit isn't important here, just the one-shot is important! 30-40 minutes of nerdiness.

I would like to share my experience of receiving this trophy.

1) Place for knocking out the trophy - Devil's Pit.

2) The chance of a critical hit is extremely important, upgrade your skills for critical hits with a crossbow, and wear the appropriate equipment.

3) The sword in the hand or sheath does not affect the amount of damage with a crossbow.

4) Shoot without aiming! This way you will save a lot of time spent on aiming.

5) As stated above, the best location for teleportation back and forth is Vizima Castle.

At the later stages of the game, if you have a crafted bomb of the 4th level of pumping (excellent), then with the help of it in the same Devil's Pit you can very quickly collect a trophy. The fact is that when stunning enemies, it gives a 100% chance of crit (while they are in camp). That is, as usual: we bring the enemy’s HP level (first with a sword, then carefully with a crossbow) to a level that is enough for exactly 1 critical shot from a crossbow, then we throw a simoom (from afar, so as not to catch ourselves), and while the enemy is unconscious, we calmly aim at him head and voila - one hundred percent crit.

The easiest way. You need to take a crossbow from the Bear school, you can equip it from lvl 29. It can be obtained by completing the quest for a set of armor and weapons from the bear school. You can also upgrade the crossbow crit in your character’s skills.
We set the difficulty to low, there is no need to remove the weapon, this will not make the crossbow stronger, and there is no need to drink thunder either. Simple bolts will also work. We port to Velen, to the Devil's Pit. We go through the second gate, the enemies will start to get angry and run after you, go back through the threshold of this gate. Bots will begin to crowd outside the threshold and will not approach you. We calmly fire two shots at the enemy to remove HP (the third shot is fatal, regardless of where the bolt hits), then axy, the enemy will lower his head, and you can calmly shoot at him. 7, sometimes more, enemies respawn there. We kill everyone, go to the white garden, and back. And so 8 times.

The trophy is not so much hard, but rather tedious. But at the same time, you can get it in 1-1.5 hours without any problems
What we need to get the trophy:
1. 3/3 skill “Lightning reflexes”;
2. We use the “Aksiy” sign - it’s much easier to aim at the head;
3.Remove the “Puppet” skill from the slot (if you put it there), since by chance you can not stun, but enchant it on an assistant who will put our targets;
4. Location "Devil's Pit" for stuffing mobs and then teleporting to another location (White Garden or Skelige) for 100% respawn of bandits.
PS Bring mobs to a dying state with a quick shot (saving time), and when there is little HP left, throw Axis and BOOM at the head
Don't rush to shoot. Carefully aim for the head.

I don’t know how useful this information will be, but still:
1. Knocked out a trophy after completing the main storyline and the “Blood and Wine” storyline, lvl 50.
2. Enemies - 2 pirates on Skellige, it was possible to go to the Devil’s Pit, but these pirates are good at helping to knock out other cumulative trophies, such as “Riddle for the Coroner”, “Humpty Dumpty”, “Living Salvo”. And they spawn relatively quickly, you don’t need to move anywhere.
3. Mutations: Lightning-fast reflexes, knowledge of anatomy, eagle eye, and cat eyes (the ability to choose this mutation opens as you progress through “Blood and Wine”), the last mutation added +700 shot damage and +50% crit chance. Thus, lvl 14 pirates died with one shot to any part of the body.
4. Tracked progress based on experience, for each pirate they gave 2 units. experience, in total I had to kill about 60 pirates, the bolts sometimes flew through and killed the 2nd pirate.
Ideally, you can still pump up Axiy for 2 targets, but this is already overkill.

I shot a cat school with a crossbow, but it seems to me that this also does not play a special role.

Procedure:

1. Create a crossbow from the Kota school

2. If possible, craft arrows to pierce armor

3. We go to the devil’s pit and start killing according to this scheme (We use Quen (so that we can aim point-blank, because they take it down only with the 3rd hit), we take down the health with a sword to about one-fifth of the maximum health, we shoot in the face (so the chance of a shot to the head (maximum)) Head hits are indicated by shaking of the screen and lack of blood upon impact.

4. Leave 1-2 enemies alive

5. Teleport to Emhyr’s castle, and then immediately to the pit

6. Perform steps 3-6 again and so on until you receive the trophy

Thank you very much tkilla for the hint with the respawn location, it really works.
To summarize, unlike in the video from tkilla, kill one bandit (the one in a helmet and with a skin on his shoulders) immediately with a sword (headshots often don’t work on him, shaking the screen). And the second with a crossbow to a minimum of HP and in the head.
On your own, a critical hit is not needed, you killed the reptiles, turned the camera around, if necessary, ran away until enemies appeared on the mini map - repeat!
Took 20 minutes!!!
