How to unlock the Ashes to Ashes achievement in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Definitive Guide

Note : There might be some grammar errors so early apologies for those.

This is a witcher contract that you can obtain in Novigrad from Kurt Dysart named NPC, who is located on the second floor of the Kingfisher Tavern.

Suggested lvl for this contract is lvl 24 but I completed this when I was only level 20. The name of this quest is *Doors Slamming Shut*

The monster of this contract is an Earth Elemental named Therazane so it's fighting technique is similar due Golem, although this Elemental monster have some some sort *earth shock wave* move that you will see and hopefully dodge.

I did have some good equipment though but at this point of the game when you are going for this quest, you might possibly have some good stuff too to be obtained. I used only Swallow potion and some food, dodged, attacked when I did see an open and occasionally I used Axii sign to slowdown this monster. The fight was not particularly hard but if you will be a too bold and dare devil, you will probably die.

Bestiary of the game says that this *Therazane* creature has only two vulnerabilities: Dimeritium Bomb and Elementa Oil. So if you are going for full prepare for this battle, craft these !

Ok so walkthough of this quest:

1. Talk to Kurt Dysart in The Kingfisher tavern that is located in the Hierarch Square in Novingrad. Accept the contract but you can also haggle the prize like every else witcher contract.

2. Follow the quest objectives and you will come eventually come to Moldavie Residence.

3. Yet again follow the quest objectives, search the house by using you're witcher senses for clues. At the basement of the house, use Aard sign to blast one of the cracked walls and venture forward.

4. You will arrive to a small cave that has a bridge which will lead you to other side of the cave. Other side of this cave has a large door. At the other side of the door you will hear roaring. Search the area around of the door and you will find a journal. Read the journal and you will then realize that it is a Earth Elemental behind that door.

5. Next obviously you will have to find some way to open that door. Just drop down to from the bridge, swim far right of the cave, find and use the switch that is located there. Then swim far left of the cave and jump to platform and you will be again at the same point where the door is. The door is open now and you will see the monster inside of the bubble.

6. Before venturing in SAVE the game just in case. Use Elementa Oil for you're silver sword if have any and equip the Dimentium Bombs too. When you are inside of the room, you will see the monster (but it cannot attack you so dont worry), search with you're witcher senses a support pilar (glowing red object) and blast it with Aard sign. Just before you will blast it however, be ready to fight !

7. Once you have defeated this monster and looted it, return to Kurt in Novingrad to complete this quest. Once you have obtained you're reward and the conversation ends you will acquire the achievement. Congratulations !

This should be marked as missable or buggy. I did all Witcher contracts and didn't get this.

Glitched for me today. Would like to know if there is a specific to-do that avoids the glitch. I even have a save to go back to.

This achievement is (or at least was) definitely glitched. I'm revisiting the game now to get the remaining achievements and I noticed I got the achievement for completing all contrats, but Ashes to Ashes did not unlock for me. I'll start a new game plus and I hope it unlocks this time, after 3 years since the last time I played the game. Maybe it's patched... Let's hope so.

I can also confirm the achievement did not pop when I completed the mission. However I had a save before completing so I will try to return do it and see if that works.

Edit. Reloading a save before the mission and re doing it worked for me to unlock it. I reloaded just before I turned the mission in

Complete Witcher Contract: Doors Slamming Shut. Suggested level is 24 and they mean it. I did it at level 22 and almost died, and my gear is top notch. You're supposed to cleanse a haunted house of ghosts out in the country, but turns out there's a big ol' earth elemental imprisoned under the house. Use Aard to get through the wall in the cellar, then once you find the diary jump into the water and find the switch against the wall towards the right of the way you entered the room, that opens the next room. If you want to be prepared, check the bestiary and read up on rock elementals' weaknesses, provided you've killed one already. Apply any oils or drink your potions before freeing him. To free the big guy, examine the beams then use Aard on the thing on the pedastal in the back of the room. I didn't prepare much. I just use the Quen sign every time I get hit, lots of dodging, lots of fast sword attacks, and use a Thunderbolt potion if I get scared. Maybe that's why I almost died... Boom, big guy's dead. Go collect your reward from Count Dysart on the 2nd floor of the inn type building right next to the fast travel station Hierarch Square in the middle of Novigrad city.

VIDEO & TEXT GUIDE

Once you reach Novigrad north of Velen if you go to the notice board in Hierarch Square there you will get a contract called Doors Slamming Shut, this is actually the Ashes to Ashes contract.

The suggested level for this is 24

If you follow the instructions on the video you will see there is a building just next to where you got the quest where you will need to talk to the quest giver. Unlike some contracts where you may have killed the beast before receiving the quest you can't do that with this one as you need a key to the house that is believed to be haunted. So make sure to go talk to him first.

Once you have spoken to him you are quicker to use fast travel if you have unlocked places near to the haunted house, if not it really is not that far on horse back to be honest.

Once there use your witcher senses and loot some books as it gives some info on the house, once you have investigated and looted the ground floor head down the stairs and you will see a red pulse from the wall, smash it open with your sword and then the AARD sign, then loot the other room if you wish before heading through, if you get stuck use the video provided.

Once through and across the bridge use your senses and you will learn from reading the book it is an Earth Elemental you will be fighting so for the battle its self i strongly suggest using the QUEN sign and dodging and rolling, he will do a slam attack which you will need to watch out for. If you have the ELEMENTA Oil use that on your sword before progressing because once in the fight you wont be able to. A bomb to use is the Dimerthitum Bomb so make sure you equip that or the enhanced version if you have it. Also pick your favourite Decoction, which ever you find suits your fighting style or you can use the Earth Elemental Decoction which will help with the slam attack your foe will use which takes off a lot of your health.

2 good potions to have equipped are Swallow and Thunderbolt or the enhanced versions.

If you don't have any of these items maybe you should wait a bit until you have some especially if you are on the harder levels.

Once you have sorted your oils, bombs etc jump off the bridge to the right side of the way you entered, the left looking back from where you found the journal and swim over and climb on to the platform and pull the switch, this will open the wall doors that stopped you passing a moment ago so swim back under the bridge and round the side and you can climb back up. Make sure by now you have applied your oils etc because when you go through remember while in battle you can't do this.

When you enter the room run to the back and use the AARD sign on the stand and this will open the shield and if you have not equipped your bombs etc by now too late so if you are on the harder levels be careful. Put it this way i was level 35 and he managed to take off half my health with one hit!

Once you have killed him pick up his loot and return to the inn where you spoke to the quest giver to turn in and then you will get your trophy.

As stated if you get stuck with anything check out the video provided smile

In order to unlock this achievement, you must complete the contract entitled "Doors Slamming Shut." You'll be able to find this contract on the notice board in Hierarch Square in Novigrad. Pick up the note that says "Contract: Haunted House," and the aforementioned contract will be activated. It is recommended to wait until you are a Level 24+ to work on this, though.

Now visit the Kingfisher Inn near the notice board and speak with the Duke seated at the table on the second floor. He will send you to a mansion on the eastern front of Novigrad. Head there and make your way into the basement/cellar, where you'll encounter the Therazane. This creature is an extremely unique elemental monster. Like most contracted beasts, it can kill Geralt in 1-2 hits and has an extremely high damage threshold. On top of this, it's resistant to almost every type of bomb effect and Sign. You'll still be able to defeat the Therazane with basic combat maneuvers: cast Quen, dodge its attacks, follow up with 1-2 strong attacks, then repeat.

This beast is a very slow-moving monster so the dodge/rolls shouldn't be too hard to pull off when avoiding its strikes. Just be aware that if and when you attack too many times in a row, it will morph itself into a defensive state. Do not attack the Elemental at this point; wait until it morphs out of its defense! After you've defeated the Therazane, loot your trophy from its corpse and return to the Duke in Hierarch Square to conclude the quest, receive your pay, and unlock the achievement.

You must complete the "Contract: Doors Slamming Shut" Side Quest to unlock this trophy (Recommended Level: 24+). It can first be started at the quest board on Hierarch Square in Novigrad. From the quest board you must pick up the note that says "Contract: Haunted House". The "Doors Slamming Shut" witcher contract will then start automatically.

Go to the innkeep near the quest board and talk to the the man on the upper floor. He will send you to a mansion in Novigrad. Go to the basement and you will discover Therazane, a mighty elemental Boss Enemy. He will kill you in 2 hits and has an incredible amount of health for his level. He is resistant to almost everything. Always keep your Quen sign active.

The basic strategy for this boss fight is to attack Therazane with 1-2 strong attacks, then dodge back immediately when he starts an attack. He will miss you almost every time and if something goes wrong you still have your Quen sign to protect you from damage. Once you have learned his attack pattern the fight will be very doable, especially because he is a very slow enemy and easy to dodge. When you attack him too many times in a row he will go into a defensive position, so do not attack him when he does this! He will block your attack and cause a massive explosion that has the potential to kill you in one hit.

After you defeat Therazane, you must return to the quest giver to unlock the trophy.
