How to unlock the Fearless Vampire Slayer achievement in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Definitive Guide

Note: This solutions contains some spoilers.

This achievement is tied to the level 22 Witcher contract with the name 'Mystery of the byway murders'.

You can acquire this witcher contract by reading the notice board notes that you will find in the town of 'Oreton'.

Once you have picked up the notice you will be directed to talk with the person who has put up the contract. He will send you to a village that has been overrun by Ghouls.

When you arrive at this village you will notice that these ghouls are all level 20 and are somewhat less easy to beat than regular ghouls. Especially since ghouls are able to regenerate health. I personally used my 'Puppet Axii power'on them and then made sure i slashed them away from the group one by one but all in all the same strategy applies to them as the one that applies to fighting regular ghouls. Hit fast, dodge away and hit fast again. Just don't get stuck between them.

Once you have killed the ghouls then the villagers will come out and it more or less occurs to Gerralt that something feels slightly off. Upon inspecting the village with your witcher senses you will notice that a stench trail leads you to a locked door. The key to this door will be handed to you by the villagers after a brief conversation.

Important note by 'A Silent Circus': ( thank you for pointing this out)
I just wanted to add that this achievement CAN be missed with the wrong dialogue choices. If you don't question the villagers when they're acting shady then they won't give you the key and you can still turn the quest in but MISS the achieve.
Inside the hut that you have just entered with the key you will find a trapdoor in the floor and beneath it is a cave.

This cave contains Sarasti at the lowest level. You might wanna ensure that your potions are stocked up and if you have the possibility to do so ,apply vampire oil on your sword. You are about to face a rather nasty vampire enemy.

He is weak against :

-IGNI ( The fire sign)
-The Devil's Puffball grenade
-Vampire oil.

Truth be told; the strategy i used on Death March was to simply cast a puppet spell ( the 2nd spell you unlock in the Axii tree) on him and punch his teeth in with normal sword attacks. If executed properly you can just take him down while he is not able to attack, nor defend himself.

After that is done you can go and collect your reward.

Surely this achievement should be flagged as missable? I've completed this contract with all of the actions completed and ticked and no achievement. Only answer is that I entered the wrong replies as stated above? facepalm Another playthrough it is.

NOTE: I had to do the hold power button down and clear network MAC and reboot trick. I had to refight the ekimmara and it pops after to talk to the villagers again. Save right before that. It does not unlock at the commander!

PanteliS14--how did you kill him withough picking up the contract? I thought the only entrance was in the locked house, which requires a key from the villager. Is there another way into the underground lair?

I've finished this quest and made sure to make the right dialogue choices, completed quest section says I killed the ekimmara but no achievement. Anyone know why? Or if I'm locked out of this achievement for my play through?

As long as you are at a decent level that's close to the requirements, this is a relatively easy trophy.

After obtaining the quest from the notice board, fast travel to Oreton and speak with the Nilfgardian soldier to haggle a decent pay. I got him to agree around 300 coins.

Then fast travel to ByWays.

Here there will be several gouls that you must kill. Once they are all defeated some fearful villagers will come out of hiding. Complete the simple investigative quest and head up to a locked shack. Convince the villager to give you the key and descend into the cavern below the shack.

Inside the cavern is an Ekimmara.
They are vulnerable to Vampire Oil and Igni (fire sign). Just keep dodging and whittling down its health, blasting with Igni whenever you get a chance.

Once defeated, collect the Ekimmara's head, and return to the villagers to explain that the beast has been killed.
I'm pretty sure this is the point you get the trophy. Either way, head back to the soldier in Oreton afterwards and collect your pay.

In order to unlock this achievement, you must complete the contract entitled "The Mystery of the Byways Murders." You'll be able to trigger this specific contract by reading the "Contract: Missing Soldiers" note on the notice board in Oreton, a village on the western front of Velen. It is recommended to wait until you are a Level 22+ to work on this contract.

Now talk to the marked commander in the village and then travel to Byways, which is further south in Velen. Here, you must kill around 5 ghouls which is ironically the hardest part of the quest. After they are all dead, talk to the villagers in the nearby hut, then follow a few clues that will lead you to the catacombs below the village. In these catacombs, you will square off against the Sarasti, a Vampire-like creature. It's a pretty easy fight, but remember its weaknesses to Devil's Puffball Bombs, Vampire Oil, and the Igni Sign. Once the monster has been slain, don't forget to loot a trophy from its corpse before returning to the village and talking to the old villager you met earlier. At this point, he'll give you a handsome reward and you'll also unlock the achievement.

In order to earn this trophy, you must complete the "The Mystery of the Byways Murders" witcher contract (Recommended level: 22+). It can be started at the Notice Board in Oreton, a village in the western half of Velen. From the notice board you must pick up the note that says "Contract: Missing Soliders".

Talk to the commander in the village and travel to Byways further South. Once you reach this area, you must kill 5 ghouls which is the hardest part of the quest. After they are dead, you will talk to the villagers and follow some clues to reach the catacombs below the village. Here you must fight Sarasti, a Vampire boss (which is a relatively easy fight). When you attack with quick strikes it will stagger Sarasti, giving him no chance to attack you. He also has relatively low health too, so this fight shouldn't last long.

Talk to the villagers after slaying the monster, and the trophy will unlock.

Order: "The Secret of Styozhki Village" You can skip the trophy!!! when you get to the village of Styozhki and kill the ghouls, when talking with the locals you need to ask what happened, the second answer is “I’m very curious” or something like that, then we conduct an investigation, then in the dialogue we answer “I’m asking for the last time” then take the key and we move on, after killing the boss and completing the task - a trophy.

p.s. If you just leave the dialogue without getting to the bottom of it, the quest will be completed and the battle with the desired boss will be skipped! and the path to it cannot be opened.

This order does not affect the trophy for all witcher orders. Sarasti missed, but they gave a trophy for all orders.

After defeating Sarasti, I got another exactly the same Sarasti. Well, I killed him, took the loot from the first one, and received the quest “return to Bytomir.” I take the loot from the second one, and the cutscene plays again as Geralt collects the trophy from the dead monster, and then endless loading. I turned off the game, turned it on, booted to the place where I looted the first one, but the second one remained unlooted. But I was able to complete the quest further (without looting the second one), and the trophy dropped.
