How to unlock the Hasta la Vista™ achievement in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Definitive Guide

Like for the Moo-rderer achievement, go to Yantra, east of Novigrad. There you will find multiple cows. Freeze one with a Northern Wind bomb and while frozen, shoot it with any arrow. It should only take one. Once it is killed, Geralt should say the title of the achievement and it should pop-up.

Hasta la Vista!

Works perfectly! There were some goats hanging around the cows as well, just tossed the bomb and domed the goat.

Yes, the goat is the trick.

I tried several times on cows and no luck.

Tried once on a goat and Hasta La Vista.

For some reason, neutral animals (like cows and goats) don't turn hostile when I throw bombs on them or shoot them with crossbow bolts. Here's an alternative for players running into the same issue: find one of the many boar groups scattered across Toussaint. When you're down to the last boar of the group, make him low with your sword. As the boar comes in for the final charge, throw your bomb and switch to crossbow. Hasta la vista, baby!

I've tried this with cows, goats, boars and Flaming Rose Knights... no avail. Every time he says Hasta La Vista, but never get the achievement... anyone had this issue and managed to get around it?!

Edit: Looks like it was Xbox Live being rubbish again...

@RVM are you sure you don't already have it? I thought I was missing the formula too until I realized I had already crafted it.

Yes I believe so. I've looked through my list of formulas in the bomb section for crafting and I only have the ability to craft six bombs, and the Northern Wind isn't there.

I've got three achievements left in the game, so I'm going to finish the other two and then see if I can do a new game + for the dlc and go immediately to pick up the formula. Not sure if that will work.

Got it in White Orchard on a wolf after killing the cow didn't work. Voted negative because the guide was wrong.

Any way to get this without a Northern Wind bomb? I can't find the formula anywhere. The herbalist in the hut in my game doesn't have it. Is there something else to do to freeze an enemy?

The only main suggestion I would offer on this achievement, but would apply to most of the game. Save before achievements, and if it doesn't pop, hard reset Xbox and reload save. Killed 3 bandits that he said Hasta La Vista, and a cow, no achievement. Hard reset, and first cow popped it.

The cows are located in the south of Yantra, which is located east of Novigrad. The achievement popped after just 1 cow, which was frozen, 1 arrow and Gerald saying: Hasta la Vista.

Sadly the cow didn't explode in multiple ice pieces as I was hoping would happen.

Before attempting this achievement, you will need to prep yourself with all the right equipment. That includes both Northern Wind bombs (of any variant) and a crossbow and bolts of any type. Additionally, this is best done against a human enemy, preferably one that is his own rather than part of a mob.

To start, equip the Northern Wind bomb and use it against your foe in combat. Their health should be considerably low before you attempt to freeze them with the bomb. Once they're stuck in the ice, switch over to your crossbow and manually aim the crosshair over their head. You’ll need a single bolt to deal the finishing blow because if the bolt does not kill them, they will thaw from the ice.

This achievement can be done against any enemy in the game, from those in Toussaint to Velen and Skellige, but try focusing on an isolated human enemy, or even low level wolves in White Orchard, for the best success. The lower the enemy’s level, the easier it will be since you won't have to take their health down with your swords.

I did this with only enhanced bomb, travelled to the broken bridge sign in white orchard, there is a pack of level 5 wolves off to the left , lowered the difficulty to easy . Bomb and a head shot did the trick. I was level 39 and used the feline bow but I would imagine any would do. Didn't have to lower the wolves health at all in fact the 1st one died with one strike of my sword laugh

Just tweaked the solution a bit to note any Northern Wind bomb works, and low level Wolves in White Orchard are best next to the bandits in Devil's Pit!

You get this achievement for killing a frozen enemy with a crossbow. The way to do this is to first equip the Northern Wind bombs. Find a small group of human bandits (doesn't have to be humans or bandits, but probably the easiest in some ways) and kill all but one of them through your normal fighting methods.

With only one opponent left, whittle down his health until its pretty low, closer to death the better. Roll away to give yourself some distance and hit him with a bomb to freeze him in place. Switch to your crossbow and try for a headshot (does more damage, although if he's low enough in health, even a body shot will work). Two possible outcomes:

1. You kill him, which causes him to shatter into little pieces, unlocking the achievement.

2. You don't kill him, which automatically unfreezes him. Hit him with another bomb and try again, or put some more damage onto him to put him even closer to death, before trying again.

This was easier to get than it sounds. It took me three bombs (overestimated the damage the crossbow would do), but I did it in my first attempt without having to reload.

Note: you can try to do this with 2 or 3 enemies left alive. If they are all suitable low in health and you can get them to cluster, you can freeze them all with one bomb and take one shot at each with your crossbow.

Note 2: as with all crossbow related achievements, having the Lightning Reflexes perk maxed out helps a bit by giving you more time to aim.

You can do this on critters too, find a cow or a deer, throw the bomb and shoot it with your crossbow, probably the easiest way to get this achievement.

This one is pretty simple. All you need to do is either craft the Northern Wind bomb to use on an enemy or use Aard with the upgrade that allows for 25% chance to freeze. To make things easier, go with the Northen Wind bomb as it is guaranteed to freeze enemies.

Find and common enemy and get it down to a sliver of health. Mind that you don't burn, poison, etc. runes on your weapon as it could kill the enemy before you can get the crossbow kill. Freeze them with that last bit of health and hit them with the crossbow arrow. You will want to do it in one shot but if timed right you might pull off two before they unfreeze. Once they die, the trophy will pop!

There is two ways to achieve this, you can use a Northern Wind bomb or the Piercing Cold, which gives you a 25% chance to freeze opponents when Aard is cast. Using the bomb is the easier method as it is guaranteed to freeze them, whereas using the sign is not.

Beat down the enemy until they are low on health and then throw a bomb at them or try and freeze them with the Aard sign (there is a chance they will die doing this). Once they are frozen finish them off with a crossbow.
