How to unlock the David and Golyat achievement in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Definitive Guide

After arriving in Toussaint during "The Best of Toussaint" quest, you will almost immediately run into your first boss of the expansion, Golyat. This giant has a wooden barrel over his head/face for protection and a large hammer-like weapon that he swings violently around the field. Treat him as you would any other large foe: dodge and roll away from his attacks, which are much like that of a Golem/Elemental.

Once you can position yourself at a distance, you will need to use your crossbow to score a shot at the small opening in his wooden helmet. If aimed correctly it will instantly kill the giant, regardless of how much health he has remaining. While not necessary, the "Lightening Reflexes" skill in the Combat tree may help in this setup as it slows down time by 45% when aiming the crossbow.

If Golyat happens to die from your allies or by any other means, be sure to reload your latest autosave to try again.

Ugh this could be annoying if the friendly AI nearby kill him

It's not that bad with the AI. I didn't even bother lowering his health. I just put enough distance between him and I and kept firing my crossbow until I got the insta-kill. The "Lightening Reflexes" perk helped a lot!

There was an issue with achievements not being uploaded. Try restarting the game and load an earlier save. Popped for me on the first attempt

I found this surprisingly easy without the lightning reflexes perk. Managed it with the second arrow. Wouldn't worry about changing up abilities for this.

Wouldn't pop for me after 5 insta kills, did a hard reset and worked first try.

Thanks for the guide. I wanted to say, thank you to Sam Squanch15 for adding the info about the hard reset. The achievement popped for me after resetting my Xbox and confronting the Giant.

I got him in the chin because he was too close to me. It still unlocked. No instakill but the AI was no help in terms of getting the achievement.

@JokerWins89, yes, Golyat only appears during this quest. So you'd have to reload an old save if you miss it during the quest.

This is a pretty easy achievement if you have the points invested in the "Lightening Reflexes".

See the video for an "easy one shot one kill".

Otherwise load a save prior to the conversation with the knights who kick off your arriving in Toussaint, head back to Novigrad and spend the 1,000 crowns on the "Potion of Clearance" and add the points. Then just slow down time and aim for the head, its very easy after the Giant begins to spin, he leaves himself open.

This is a missable achievement whose opportunity is immediately after arriving in Touissant, essentially right between the the "Envoys, Wineboys" quest and "The Beast of Touissant" quest. When you first arrive in Touissant and the credits for the DLC have finished you are immediately thrust into a battle with a giant.

To get the achievement you need to shoot him in the eye with your crossbow. A success is an instant kill.

It's a little tricky because he's wearing a giant bucket as a helmet and most of his face is blocked. I also found his "name" floating by his head obscuring my view of his face a bit, depending on the angle I was facing him at. This is much easier to do with the Lightning Reflexes skill (the one that slows down time when you aim the crossbow) maxed out and enabled.

Just keep a good distance away and try to aim for the opening near the center of the face. I actually got it when he charged straight at me, with time slowed for the crossbow skill, giving me a chance to really aim at his eye in the center of the opening of the bucket.

If Golyat should die before you get the achievement (either because you shoot him to death elsewhere or your companions kill him off) just reload the auto-checkpoint before the battle.

MISSABLE

As soon as you arrive in Toussaint, you will run into Golyat. Get him low on health and then use your crossbow to finish him off. Make sure you aim for the face, where there is an opening in the barrel. Kill him with a well placed shot to the face and the trophy is yours. You can also one shot him with the crossbow if you can manage to hit him directly in the eye.

As soon as you find yourself in Toussaint, you will see a giant with a barrel on his head, this is Goliath. Hit him right in the eye with a crossbow bolt (the one that is not covered by the barrel), Goliath will fall and the trophy will not be long in coming.

The North Wind bomb works great on Goliath , but you can hit an enemy who is not moving without any skill.

I tried to slow down and aim for the eye, but after somersault I accidentally shot offhand - right in the eye, they gave me the trophy.

When meeting Goliath, you can immediately shoot him in the eye; you don’t need to “punch” him first.
If you missed the trophy and don’t have any saves at this point, remember that you can start going through the expansion from scratch in the main menu of the game. There are 5-7 minutes until you meet Goliath.

1 minute of business, we just started the addition, ran to the boss, turned on the crossbow, shot plus or minus in the middle of the barrel and done.

I used a crossbow from the Cat School, no additional perks or special bolts needed, killed with one shot to the eye. The enemy is not fast and often gets up, it is not difficult to hit.

Without any skills and slowing down when aiming, I just shot in the head, hit him 7 times, I couldn’t even see it with my eyes

The first DLC boss, don't miss it. The boss has a barrel on his head, in the center of which there is a small part missing, exactly the eye. The point is to bring the boss's health to almost zero and start targeting the eye. Problems can arise only at the last level of difficulty, since the boss likes to start spinning and make a dash in your direction if you move too far away. It would be advisable to improve your crossbow shooting skills a little so that the time when aiming slows down more.

06/01/2015 A small correction, you don’t have to hit him, but target his eye from the very beginning. Hitting him in the eye counts as a critical hit and instantly kills Goliath.
