How to unlock the I Wore Ofieri Before It Was Cool achievement in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Definitive Guide

This achievement is finally available after Patch 1.11 has been installed. The solution is copied over from my xba guide.

-----

You can begin making progress on this achievement by speaking with the Ofieri Merchant located at the Upper Mill fast travel point in eastern Novigrad. Ask to take a peek at the man’s wares, and proceed to purchase the following items:

+ Decorated Saber - ~2500 crowns
+ Ofieri Blinders - 233 crowns
+ Ofieri Saddlebags - 233 crowns

Back out of his inventory menu and comment on his horse. This will spark conversation and lead to the opportunity of racing the Merchant. Do so, and if you win you will receive an Ofieri Saddle. Now speak with the Merchant again and exhaust all of the dialogue options until Geralt mentions that he can recover the Merchant’s lost diagram pages. This will initiate the “From Ofier’s Distant Shores” quest. Tackle this quest however you’d like (take note that three of the four diagrams are located at campsites that you will be looting for the Wild Rose Dethorned achievement) and once you have collected all four diagrams, return to the Merchant, meditate for 24 hours, and then collect your reward: translated diagrams for Ofieri Boots, Gauntles, a Tunic, and Trousers.

Now you will need to collect the necessary crafting materials before heading out to the Armorer in Crow's Perch to craft your four-piece gear set. Once it’s crafted, the achievement should unlock provided you have all 8 pieces of Ofieri Gear in the game.

you just need 8 items.

4- crafted armor
3, horse items. 1 won in the race 2 bought
1 sword bought or crafted.

crossbow and tunic are not needed. Tunic may be a substitute for the crafted one.

You have to go to crows perch Armorer because you need a master to craft these gears

IDK if the patched changed this or not. but i got mine crafted by the Ofieri Enchanter and bought any of my missing crafting materials from him as well. This armor was not classified as masterwork at that time.

So patch 1.11 changed this from Journeyman to Master?

If yes, let me know and I'll fix that right away, since I crafted my armor pre-1.11 in Oxenfurt.

No worries, but yeah. The dwarves' wife/lady, Yoana, is the Master Craftsman (Craftswoman I guess) there.

Ahhh. Shit, that doesn't sound good :/ Are you sure it's not one of those things where she's not loaded in properly and you have to wait a bit or meditate to trigger her availability to speak? If not, then I'm at a loss.

do you need to be level 38 before the dwarf crafts these for you ?
0
0
By NigelMansell on 31 May 2016 12:38
No level requirement for the crafting, just to wear some of the stuff. I didn't need to craft many of the ofieri gear because i'd already picked up some pieces earlier on from drops. The dwarf isn't the mastercrafter btw, lol it's the woman, and you need to do a quest for her before you can make some armor.

To be more precise, the Upper Mill sign post isn't located in Novigrad, which is only the city, but rather in the Gustfields, but only referred as Velen - No Man's Land in the game though.

I appear to have fallen foul of a common bug where the 4th diagram won't appear in the Bandit's Hideout. Even after looting the red, glowing chest, there's nothing.

Does anybody know of a fix to this? It seems odd that the developers wouldn't have fixed this in a later update.

^ You might not need that diagram for the achievement because i only needed to craft 1 or 2 parts of the set. The rest were found and/or bought

By IllustriousYeti on 03 Jul 2016 22:11
^But you can't craft them unless he translates them first. I'm experiencing the missing underground piece as well.
Are you saying then that its possible to just happen upon the rest of the armour?
I have the 3 horse items, the sword, and the extras in the shop (tunic included).
That would mean trying to find a pair of gloves, trousers, and boots, without the crafting being possible. Possible workaround.

The Ofieri armor diagram inside a chest in the underground Bandit Camp for the 'From Ofier's Distant Shores' quest isn't appearing despite the chest glowing red. This is literally the last thing I need to 100% the whole game.

The chest in the bandit's camp is bugged. There's a known issue if you clear the camps before the bandit's camp.

You can restart the DLC with the pre-made Geralt and do the quest again. It takes about 30-40 minutes.

For all previous comments, don't need to read. These can make you more confused, it is better follow simple steps:

- Do new solo DLC Hearth of Stone
- Do Quest "From Ofier..."
- Talk Fergus, and start to do Quest until Yoana is the Master for craft your diagrams
- Do craft four diagrams, won the horse race, and read primary comment for other items.

You can craft the items if your level is lower.
Don't need to level from L32 to L37, wasted my time and nobody helped me for understand more. Thanks for your attention.

I don't know if anyone else mentioned it, doesn't seem like it searching for key words on the page, but you don't need to actually equip the items I got it just from having them in my inventory in case anyone else is wondering like I did. I had a sword, crossbow, trousers, and blinders in my stash. Went back to get those, bought a tunic, and then crafted the boots and gauntlets. The only Ofieri items I actually had equipped was the Saddle and Saddlebags.

T'anx for the guide, it worked.

For what it's worth:

Paid the runesmith to make him a mastercrafter, so he could make the items instead of raising Yoanna. Most helpfull since there was no Fast Travel to Skellige available to me.

-Had Ofieri items on Roach.
-Had bought and equipped blade and crossbow.
-Had tunic in inventory.
-Made, gloves, boots, and pants and that's when the Achievement popped, which was really good since the gear was reading level 39 required and I was 36.

I am not wearing the gear for I am not high enough level but people have said they got the achievement without having to. Is this bugged with the newest update?

Collect everything apart from the missing saddle.

boots, chest, gauntlets, trousers, sword, crossbow, blinders and saddlebags (8 items)

Manual save.

Start a ‘New Game +’ with that save file.

Follow main story only through White Orchard.

Once in Velen ride directly to merchant and do a manual save just in case.

Win ‘fine looking horse’ race.

Pops as soon as you are given the saddle with other items from ‘New game +’ inventory.

Spoiler but could save you quite a bit of money from item and component purchases.
You don't necessarily need to craft every item and they don't all need to be relic level.
I got the achievement with this.
Bought: blinders, saddlebags
Won: stock saddle
Crafted: boots, gauntlets
Looted: sharovary (magic/master) - random chest towards the end of the base game with HoS installed AND "Dead Man's Party" in the von Everic crypt
Looted: decorated saber (master), tunic (master) - during "Evil's Soft First Touches" when the ship wrecks and you fight the Ofir

I had the same issue with it not popping as The Colonel. Unequipping Roach's gear made it pop, thanks!

It's actually really weird. Just switching gear so all the ofieri gear was off didn't work, I had to manually take everything off Roach.

Just to add a little more info here, if you are like me and sold the saddle after you won it in the race, but you also have no idea where or to whom you sold it, then you might think you have to start the entire collection over again via a 'New Game' playthrough of the DLC. Thankfully this is not the case!

My work-around was dumping all the remaining Ofieri gear (blinders, saddlebags, shirts, pants, gloves, boots, and sword) into the storage chest found in your house or throughout the world. After that is completed, start a NG+ campaign using the save where your gear is in the chest.

Then, after collecting your gear and finishing the tutorial sections, just ride Roach all the way to the Ofieri Merchant located at the Upper Mill and re-do the horse race quest. There are seemingly no prerequisites to starting this quest, so the longest part is going through the tutorial sections and running all the way across the map.

After equipping the newly won saddle, along with the rest of the gear I got out of my storage chest that I carried over with NG+, the achievement popped for me!

Hopefully this helps.

Missing-a-diagram-in-a-chest glitch solution

So as of today there's another glitch with this achievement in the latest (and most probably last) version released. As you already know if you have read the other guides, at some point you got to find diagrams in order to craft 4 pieces of armor.

However many of us have come across a glitch that made one of the 4 diagrams unobtainable. Most of the time it's the one inside the chest of the bandits hideout which would just not be inside the chest, preventing you from looting it and crafting the corresponding piece of armor.

If you come across this glitch, well you will never be able to get the diagram on your current save. It means you'll have to create a new game in the "Hearts of Stone only" mode and do the quest all over again. Don't worry, it takes like 30 minutes so that's not too bad.

Respect this order to be sure not to glitch the quest one more time:

1) Create new game "Hearts of Stone only" // you can go on easy no problem
2) DON'T TALK TO THE OFIERI MERCHANT, directly go to the Zuetzer Castle and grab the first diagram there
3) Now follow the quest instructions: go and talk to the merchant and grab the remaining diagrams then talk to him to end the corresponding quest
4) After that, win a horse race against the merchant, and then buy everything ofieri-related he sells: the sword, the crossbow, the blinders, the tunic and the saddlebags // I think you don't need the tunic but who cares you have more than enough money for that and the crafting, and that's just a quick run to get this achievement anyway
4) Do the Master Armorers quest in Crow's Perch so that Yoana can craft the pieces of armor from the diagrams

Achievement should pop right after that as expected.
Actually the only very important step you gotta do is to directly and find a diagram BEFORE talking to the merchant. Other than that you just have to follow the normal procedure.

I'm not sure this solution will ever help someone, but after long googling to find a solution for this glitch, I found that many people had and still have this issue so here you go, and good luck on your path as they say

The cause of this glitch seems unknown and I've read some people trying to do so and still having the glitch in the end so I would suggest you just start a new "HoS" game.
Unfortunately that means you'll have your quest stuck for good on your questlog in your main game but at least you can unlock the achievement...

I followed this guide to the letter, but the achievement sadly didn't pop. Even after reloading and just before creating the other 3 of the 4 equipment, it didn't pop. Like Bostonsmafia said: I had to hard reset my XBOX (Hold the power button on your xbox for about 10 seconds and then boot it again), load my save, craft the 3 remaining equipment and it popped while in the menu and after the text of ..... crafted disappeared, took maybe 8 seconds for the achievement to pop after creating the last part.

Tips:
1. The "Master Armorers" quest is a secondary quest and can be obtained by Fergus in Crow's Perch in Velen (he's the bearded dwarf armorer).
2. The necessary dust that you need can also be bought from Fergus/Yoana or buy the stones like Amber and you can dismantle them into dust.

By jantrance on 20 Apr 2021 17:40
+1 from me, thank you for the short guide.

One thing you might want to add to the guide is how you can dismantle gems to make dust, which is required for all of the diagrams. I had to google it because I don't craft often, and the blacksmith ran out of purchasable Ruby dust laugh

Also, remind people that before they make this new save, to make a Manual save of their original game, because this new HoS only save will overwrite every Checkpoint and Autosave slot that you have as you progress. I lost a few hours of gametime from my original save because I forgot to Manually save and assumed one of the checkpoints would remain

"There is a bug in 1.10 version of the game. To complete this Achievement, you have to buy Saddlebags and Horse Blinders. They will be available for purchase from the Ofieri Merchant in the next patch."

Information provided by GamePressure (http://guides.gamepressure.com/thewitcher3/guide.asp?ID=3171...), thanks to Hirogen D for pointing it out.

The information is not 100% but knowing CD Projekt Reds previous issue with the Gwent Achievement, I'm sure we can expect a fix for this Achievement in the next Patch.

I fucked up and sold my saddle so I started a new HoS campaign and put it on the easiest difficulty. Ran through and got the schematics and did the Master Armourer quest line. From start to finish it took about 2 hours. I did have to buy some ruby dust and chitinous shell crafting components but the base game gave me the funds to purchase and Joana had the supplies I needed so there was no material farm necessary. Achievement popped quick

I completed the base game before downloading any DLC, and I believe this bugged my savefile.

The Wolven Witcher Gear (specifically the 4 armor pieces) are unobtainable, because Hieronymus' notes do not appear in the chest at the old signal tower in Kaer Morhen.

Similarly, the Ofieri Gear (again, the 4 craftable armor pieces) and this achievement are unobtainable, because one of the diagrams does not appear in the underground bandit hideout. In order to get this achievement, I had to start a new game (HoS only) and redo everything. It did not take that long, but it was still frustrating and annoying.

What a shame, despite being common and well-known, this atrocious bug has not, and probably will never, be patched :(

As of 2021 there's still a bug where the diagram won't appear in the chest. Allegedly the work around is to start a new game + at the HOS expansion, talk to the ofeiri merchant first before clearing the fallen knight camps first and follow the quests. I have yet to try this as I'm not ready to start a new game + but will update when I see if it works or not.

Update: it works

You must speak with the Ofieri Merchant located at the Upper Hill fast travel point in eastern Novigrad. Purchase the following items:

~ Decorated Saber - ~2500 crowns
~ Ofieri Blinders - 233 crowns
~ Ofieri Saddlebags - 233 crowns

Back out of his inventory menu and comment on his horse. This will start a conversation which leads to racing him. If you win the race, you will receive an Ofieri Saddle. Now speak with the Merchant again and exhaust all of the dialogue options until Geralt mentions that he can recover the Merchant’s lost diagram pages. This will start the “From Ofier’s Distant Shores” quest. You may do the quest however you want but three of the four diagrams are located at campsites that you will be looting for the Wild Rose Dethorned achievement. Once you have collected all four diagrams, return to the Merchant, meditate for 24 hours and then collect the diagrams for the other pieces. Once you have crafted the items, your set will be finished and the achievement should pop. Here is a video to aid you:

**Glitched**
If it glitches on you, the best known method is to start the DLC as a standalone and do not talk to the Ofieri merchant. Instead, go and get the diagram from the Zuetzer Castle and then follow the quest until completion.

You can collect the Ofieri armor set during the quest "From Ofieri's Distant Shores", which will have you find the four diagrams that you will need to have translated by an Ofieri merchant in Upper Mill. You can also buy a sword from the same merchant or a diagram for the sword along with the Crossbow. The horse saddle can be won by racing the Ofieri merchant and the horse blinders and saddlebags can be bought from his shop.

You will need to craft the armor, which the female armorer in Crow's Perch is the only one who is able to do so, and the elf blacksmith in Novigrad can forge the sword if needed. Once you have all the physical items, the trophy will unlock.

You can begin making progress on this achievement by speaking with the Ofieri Merchant located at the Upper Hill fast travel point in eastern Novigrad. Ask to take a peek at the man’s wares, and proceed to purchase the following items (the Tunic and Crossbow are not needed):

  • Decorated Saber - ~2500 crowns
  • Ofieri Blinders - 233 crowns
  • Ofieri Saddlebags - 233 crowns

Back out of his inventory menu and comment on his horse. This will spark conversation and lead to the opportunity of racing the Merchant. Do so, and if you win you will receive an Ofieri Saddle. Now speak with the Merchant again and exhaust all of the dialogue options until Geralt mentions that he can recover the Merchant’s lost diagram pages. This will initiate the “From Ofier’s Distant Shores” quest. Tackle this quest however you’d like (take note that three of the four diagrams are located at campsites that you will be looting for the "Wild Rose Dethorned" achievement) and once you have collected all four diagrams, return to the Merchant, meditate for 24 hours, and then collect your reward: translated diagrams for Ofieri Boots, Gauntles, a Tunic, and Trousers.

Now you will need to collect the necessary crafting materials before heading out to the Armorer in Crow's Perch to craft your four-piece gear set. Once it’s crafted, the achievement should unlock provided you have all 8 pieces of Ofieri Gear in the game.

Just received this trophy by purchasing Ophir Blinders from a merchant in Ophir. I didn’t pay attention to them before, because... icon like regular blinders. In addition there is armor, gloves, trousers, boots, a crossbow, a steel saber, saddle bags and a nomad saddle. There is no silver sword, but according to the conditions for the achievement, it is not needed.

I will give advice for witchers who are not rich or for those who want to save money.
You can cut costs a little by not buying/creating blueprints for the Ophir sword.
According to the plot, after a shipwreck a brawl will begin, after which do not rush to move to the marker on the map, but search the defeated enemies and take the necessary sword.

With update 1.20, the trophy can’t be won, no matter how hard you crack it.

Patch 1.50. Everything is working . I played on the save of the main game and immediately went to the merchant from Ophir. I bought from him: blinkers , saddle bags , armor and a steel sword . Next, you can invite him to fight in a horse race (Race: Fast as the West Wind) and for victory he will give a saddle and for one ask you to find 4 lost drawings (Quest: From distant Ophir). After completing the task, he will decipher them and give them to you. Next, we run to the armorer and make the remaining elements of Ophir armor: gloves , pants and boots .

For the trophy, you also need to get Ophir saddlebags and horse blinders, but they will appear only in the next patch (they are not available in 1.10)

After patch 1.11, things appeared at the seller, such as blinders and seat bags, after purchasing you will receive a trophy.

Similar. If you find the drawing before completing the quest... You can replay it again.

I also got into this unpleasant situation when I found the drawings before I got into the basement. The chest turned out to be empty. But here's the opportunity, I loaded an early safe, when the CS had not even started to pass, and went straight to the merchant from Ophir for the quest. So the drawing was also not in the chest. 1.31 Apparently only the new game KS will help.

There was no drawing in the chest either. received a trophy with the new game only stone hearts. It’s not necessary for everything to be dressed, it just needs to be there.

I don’t understand why there is not a single clue where to find this Ophir merchant?
It is located near the mill east of the village where we walked at the wedding.

Patch 1.12, trophy completed. The whole problem is in the equipment for the horse. We get an Ophir saddle when we win a race with a merchant from Ophir, and from the same merchant we then buy Ophir blinders and Ophir saddle bags.

I started the quest with a drawing I accidentally found in the forest, so I ended up in the bandits’ lair on the last 4th drawing and it was NOT in the chest!!
I started the task with patch 1.22, updated to 1.31 and still no 4 drawings! Who knows what to do!? I've already gone through everything and I can't get this one out....

There is no need to craft a saber. It can be bought from a merchant.

The trophy was counted after creating a steel sword (relic) from the drawing. Before this there was an Ophir sword, but of a different quality.

The trophy is not difficult. Yes, for a trophy it’s easy to just buy everything, you don’t have to wear it
Need to:
For the horse
Saddle
Blinders
Saddle bags
For us
Armor
Gloves
Trousers
Boots
Slalny sword
The saddle can be won from the Merchant of Ophir. The quest is called Horse Racing: Fast as the West Wind (by the way, the best saddle)
The blinders are bought from him.
He also has saddlebags .
You can buy armor and a sword from him, but he doesn’t have all the parts of the armor.
I completed a quest with this Merchant to find drawings of the best Ophir armor. It’s called From Distant Ophir, after completing it he makes us a translation of all the drawings so that we can make them for ourselves. I went to an armorsmith and a blacksmith, made armor and a sword.
The trophy is yours.

Afterwards I sold the armor and sword and remained in the black.

Comrades, it’s strange that no one wrote, all the things from the set are bought from the Ophir merchant and crafted from the Rune Master, but there is one thing - saddle bags, they are won in races, you can skip them, I sold them, then I had to go through everything again..
