I've noticed most games, including this one, ignore achievements unlocked and achievement progress when offline. Just a word of caution as I've lost many potential achievements to this.

For those just starting the game. About how long does it take to get to this cutscene? Like as soon as you kill the Griffen, you are prompted to head somewhere where this will unlock or is there more that is done before?

Believe it or not, if you reset the console and do the same, it unlocks. It happened to me several times with this game (even it is at 1.6 version)

This is a story-based achievement which cannot be missed. You'll get it at the end of the Prologue.

Essentially, you have to complete the main monster quest of the prologue, including getting the quest to kill the griffon from the commander of the fort, doing the subquests that allow you to find out where the griffin is and how to attract it, actually kill it, then return to the commander for your reward. After that, once you return to the tavern to pick up Vesemir a cut-scene will kick-in and you'll get the achievement after that.

You can't really go straight in and do this. You'll likely want/need to explore the area a bit and do some side quests to build up a few levels before you can actually kill the griffin.

Story related ~ cannot be missed.

During the Quest 'Lilac & Gooseberries', you build toward a fight with the Griffin that has been attacking around White Orchard.

After your battle has played out, return to the NPC as directed, and after a few cutscenes the Trophy is unlocked.

The achievement is buggy in the full edition, I didn’t get it on my first playthrough. Also, the Doppler effect, the order for the squealer and friend or foe (order on the skellige) did not fall out, I advise you to save before completing these quests.
