How to unlock the Playing House achievement in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Definitive Guide
Firstly, to gain Corvo Bianco you must defeat the rock monster and meet the Duchess. She will give it to you in a cutscene. After the cutscene you will be on your horse, you can either ignore that quest, or just keep going until you have finished it.
Once you are free to, go to Corvo Bianco (where you defeated the Bruxa, there is a green chest on the map) and head to the entrance of the main house. A cutscene will start and you must follow the quest "No Place Like Home". You will follow your Majordomo around the area until finally you will end up inside the house and can purchase renovations from your Majordomo after talking to him.
This is what I did to unlock the achievement:
Begin by purchasing the general house upgrade for 5000 crowns, then buy the grindstone and the armouring table under the grounds upgrades for 1000 crowns each. Then wait three days using meditation.
Now talk to him again and under the house upgrades buy the bed for 1000 crowns, the weapon rack and armour stand for 500 crowns each, and finally the guest room upgrade for 1000 crowns. Now under the grounds upgrades buy the stable upgrade and herbs for the garden for 2000 crowns each. Wait two days and talk to the Majordomo again for the achievement.
Total crowns spent: 14,000. If you need more money then save and go to the tournament grounds just south of your estate and sell as much as you need to the armoursmith and weaponsmith, then just reload once you have the achievement.
Thanks to HaloMonkey3009 for finding the bug fix.
To upgrade your Vineyard Corvo Bianco completely you need 14.000 crowns, that may seem a lot but after killing countless Bandits (good spot is here, here and here, also make sure you sell them at a Blacksmith/Armorer) and selling there Weapon this shouldn't be any problem. Also check your Inventory, I sold a lot of crafting materials that and got over 10.000 crowns out of it.
First you can upgrade your House (5000 crowns), add an Armor Repair Table (1000 crowns) and a Grindstone (1000 crowns). After that you need to meditate for about 3 days for the Upgrades to be completed.
After that you can build a stable for Rouch (2000 crowns), a herb garden (2000 crowns), a new bed (1000 crowns), a weapon rack (500 crowns), a armor stand (500 crowns) and a guest room (1000 crowns). meditate again for two days and your Vineyard is fully upgraded and you get the Playing House Achievement
At first you can only do 3 upgrades: one to the house in general (5000 gold), two outdoors (armorer and weapon enhancement stations): 1000 gold each. Once the house upgrade is done, 4 additional internal upgrades unlock: a better bed (1000 gold), guest room (1000 gold), extra armor stands (500 gold), extra weapon racks (500 gold). Once the initial two outer upgrades are done, two additional ones unlock: herb garden (2000 gold), stables (2000 gold).
When all 9 upgrades have been purchased, talked to your majordomo again and the quest will finish and the achievement will unlock.
You can display trophies, artwork, weapons, and armor in various parts of the house, but none of these are required for the achievement.
You will be given the deed to Corvo Bianco during "The Beast of Toussaint" quest. This will also start the "No Place Like Home" quest. Go to Corvo Bianco and talk to Majordomo. Go on the tour with him to unlock the ability to develop your property. Once the tour is done you can talk to Majordomo for renovating. There is a total of 9 different improvements you can make to restore your property to its former glory, which will cost you a total of 14,000.
- House Renovation - 5,000
- Armor Repair Table - 1,000
- Grindstone - 1,000
- Stable - 2,000
- Garden - 2,000
- Bed - 1,000
- Guest Room - 1,000
- Weapon Rack - 500
- Armor Stand - 500
After slaying the Shaelmaar during “The Beast of Toussaint," there will be a lengthy cutscene between Geralt and the Duchess. During this time you will be granted the deed to Corvo Bianco. You can now choose to press on with the subsequent quest (which is quite urgent) or return to Corvo Bianco at once.
Whenever you decide to revisit the estate, you will trigger a cutscene with your Majordomo, Barnabas-Basil, in the courtyard. This will start the “No Place Like Home” quest. At the end of the vineyard tour Basil will offer his services in renovating the estate. You can now engage in dialogue with him to begin renovations. You will need 14,000 coins total for this achievement.
Start with the first option: upgrading the house. This will cost 5,000 coins. Next, upgrade the grounds via a grindstone and armorer’s table; each will cost 1,000 coins. Now you will need to meditate three full days in order to see these three upgrades complete.
Speak with Basil once the primary renovations are complete and you can now purchase the following inner-house and courtyard upgrades:
- Bed – 1000 coins
- Weapon Rack – 500 coins
- Armor Stand – 500 coins
- Guest Room – 1000 coins
- Stable – 2000 coins
- Herb Garden – 2000 coins
You will need to wait another two full days to see these renovations complete. Once they’re done the achievement will unlock as Corvo Bianco is restored to its former glory.
