How to unlock the Kayla Johnson Arc achievement in theHunter: Call of the Wild - Definitive Guide
Mission 1 - Show Me Watchoo Got:
Harvest a Gray Wolf
The first mission in this arc. This mission requires the player to harvest (not just kill) a single Gray Wolf. I tend to find wolves in the NW corner of the map, in the burnt forest biome. Explore that area during rest times (7:00-11:00 and 11:00-19:00) and you'll probably find a pack. If not, hunt the drink times (23:00-03:00) in the NW lakes.
Take it slow though, wolves have really good senses all-round; especially smell, so be mindful of wind direction.
Mission 2 - Bearly Broke A Sweat:
Harvest a Grizzly Bear
Same rule applies from the previous mission, you need to actually harvest the kill. Hunt the SE river and you shouldn't have much trouble finding a bear. Drink times are 03:00-07:00, and they also tend to rest near their drink zones.
Mission 3 - Exact. Efficient. Effective.
Harvest a Plains Bison and earn a Quick Kill Bonus of 100
(A quick rundown on the Quick Kill System: The Quick Kill bonus is based on the elapsed time from the first shot that hits an animal, to the moment that animal dies. Faster the kill, the better the bonus.)
This one could prove challenging if you don't have the right gear. To drop a Bison quick enough to complete this mission, you'll either need to get a heart shot, or at least double lungs - both are difficult, considering how beefy Bison are. I'm unsure if it varies in different species but from personal experience, I've harvested a Bison that took around ~8secs to fall and it still had a bonus of 100.
What you'll need:
Bows (recommended): Use class 9 arrows, 600gr. Broadheads for compound bows, and 700gr. for traditional bows.
Handguns: The 545 Rhino is also a viable option if available, due to quick follow-up shots.
Rifles: A rifle with 7-9 caliber ammo can work. A 4-9 round like the 7mm or 45-70 is not ideal and isn't recommended.
Shotguns: 10ga Slugs are the only ammo that covers class 9, and aren't very powerful (for Bison anyway)
You want to get as close as possible in order to maximize penetration, so creep up to a herd - preferably during drink time (03:00-07:00) - and put a shot through the lungs, or heart if you're feeling confident. Get a follow-up shot if you can. Bison are most commonly found in the crimson plains region, in the center of the map.
Mission 4 - Old Skool
Harvest 2 Gray Wolves downed using a bow or crossbow
This is when the missions start to get pretty difficult.
Unless you're looking for extra challenge, don't use the crossbow. It has incredibly poor range and getting close to wolves is hard enough. Take a bow, preferably a compound bow - even the cheapest one - and this mission will be a lot easier.
There are two ways to get this; 1) slowly creep up on a pack and take a shot, then repeat, or 2) Get really lucky and hope the pack turns aggressive, allowing you to take as many shot as you need while they try and kill you.
Wolves sprint around chasing animals during their feed time, making option 1 difficult. Rest and drink times (07:00-11:00 and 11:00-19:00 for rest, and 23:00-03:00 drink) are the best option for stalking. Hunt in the burnt forest and the surrounding lakes in the NW corner of the map.
If you get lucky and a pack turns aggro on you, try to evade their attacks while putting as many shots out as possible. Also, be sure to harvest the two wolves ASAP, as the other ones could still kill you if they don't run away.
Mission 5 - Bears vs Bow
Harvest 2 Grizzly Bears downed using a bow or crossbow
Same rule applies from the previous mission; don't use a crossbow unless you really want to. Bows are better overall.
This one is a bit easier as bears senses aren't as keen as the wolves. Much like the previous bear-related mission, hunt the SE river during drink time (03:00-07:00) and you'll probably find some. From there just take it slow and don't miss!
Mission 6 - Step Up Your Game
Harvest a Gray Wolf downed from 50.00m away or further and earn a SILVER game score or better
Harvest a Grizzly Bear downed from 50.00m away or further and earn a SILVER game score or better
This one is a lot easier than it sounds, most wolves and bears get at least SILVER and we can now use rifles again. so just hunt the previously mentioned areas and times and you shouldn't have any trouble.
Mission 7 - The Apex Predator Challenge
Harvest a Gray Wolf at night and earn a quick kill bonus of 100 and a SILVER game score or better
Harvest a Grizzly Bear at night and earn a quick kill bonus of 100 and a SILVER game score or better
Harvest a Plains Bison at night and earn a quick kill bonus of 100 and a SILVER game score or better
Note: 'night' last from 19:00-05:00.
Edit: As DcupsofJustice pointed out in the comments, this means you can drop the animal before 19:00 while there is still good visibility, then wait until after 19:00 to harvest the animal.
All these animal have drink times within the night period ( 23:00-03:00 for wolves, and 03:00-07:00 for Bears and Bison) This makes the mission a lot easier, just hint the drink times, and take an appropriate weapon that will drop them quick enough to get the 100 bonus.
To maximize the chances of getting a SILVER score for all species, target males as much as you can, and females that are at least higher than the 1-TRIVIAL difficulty.
(If you have trouble dropping the bison, see the guide for mission 3)
Mission 8 - Becoming The Alpha
Harvest a Grizzly Bear downed by a single heart shot with a bow or crossbow and earn a GOLD game score or better.
The last - and most difficult - mission.
For finding Grizzlies:
- Grizzly Bears drink from 03:00-07:00, typically in the SE area of the map around the rivers (their rest zones also tend to be close by)
For the GOLD rating:
- Male Grizzlies with a difficulty of at least 7-VERY HARD are the best targets.
- Passing all the harvest checks, of course.
- This is the most annoying part of this mission, just kill as many males that you can for respawns and hope you find a GOLD potential bear.
For the heart shot:
- Being able to make consistent heart shots just comes with practice.
- Pay attention to the x-ray overlay when harvesting other bears ( press in the harvest screen) and try to visualize where the heart would be.
Happy Hunting!

Really good guide for tips and such. This is my last mission arc as I've put off the wolf kill with bow challenge.
Night kills are very easy if you use the time night starts to your advantage. Get a kill before 1900 when you can see clearly, wait until after 1900, then harvest. Once I figured that out night kills are stupid easy, just take time. It's also fairly easy to see later in the evening when the moon is out. Any guide I get around to making will have this note if a night kill(s) are required.

Last mission - southwest long river get a few tents set up around the railway and wait till 6am (or near any drink zones,6-7am is best what I found) - they are everywhere around there. I got mine by luck using the crossbow as a lvl 7 spooked and ran towards me then stood up. Persistence is key.
