How to unlock the Cache Dispenser achievement in Thief - Definitive Guide

another way to do this with out losing gold. Buy both trinkets to increase poppies held buy 2 and cost 25% less.

Then buy poppies from the merchant for 17g and sell them for 18g each time you will make 1g and earn 17 gold for your 40,000g used.

EDIT: This has to be done one Rouge difficulty to reduce the costs of the poppies. Any higher and the price will be to much.

The trinkets that are needed are called Doctor's Orders(Reduce Poppy Cost by 25%), Basso's Bond(Reduce Cost of Resources by 25%), and Troy's Satchel(Increase Health and Poppy carrying capacity by 2). The last one is option, but it makes it go by a little bit faster.

Great solution. I am on normal difficulty (i forget what it's called, is rogue normal?) and my buy price was the same as the sell price, 18g. It only took twenty minutes of button mashing before it popped, my fingers hurt like hell but you can't complain for a 100 point achievement.

I'd just like to point out as pointed by funkym0nkey77 you can do this on THIEF difficulty aka normal difficulty.

Works perfectly. I don't know any way to tell how much money you have spent but crudely if you consider 40,000G divided by 17G to buy one poppy, it will require 2,353 transactions. Since you make 1G when you sell each poppy for 18G you will know that you went thru this process when you have made an extra 2,353 G Since you will have bought some other stuff along the way, this at least gives you a rough idea how much progress you are making.

I can confirm this does not need to be done on Rogue difficulty. I finished up the achievement with poppy selling for about 30 minutes yesterday on Thief difficulty. Buy and sell price were both 18G. Other research on this showed that finding all collectibles nets you a 30,000G reward, so if you plan on doing that, farming poppies may not be necessary.

Oops, I spoke too soon. This does work in the latest version of the game.

You need to be in Rogue difficulty. There are 2 trinkets to lower the price and 1 trinket to increase capacity:

1. Doctor's Orders - Reduces cost of poppies by 25% - 155 G
2. Basso's Bond - Reduces cost of resources by 25% - 750 G
3. (Optional) Troy's Satchel - Increases carrying capacity of food / poppies by two - 1299 G

Where's the Doctor's Orders trinket? I can't find it.

Just to add, you can't buy the Doctors Order trinket until you finish chapter 3.
Also, it took me about 300 back and forths of selling and buying the poppies (with Troy's Satchel trinket) until I hit 40000 from a near fresh save, so if you've barely spent any money and you're trying to go for this achievement, it'll take you about maybe 20-30 minutes depending on how fast you can sell and buy the poppies.

Will this buying and selling method still work or bc the money balances out, since mine are 18, am I kind of out of luck for this method?

It should still work, the game just records the money spent. making money dose not cancel out what you spent. This will also work for the early thief achievement that has 13 days left to complete (loot 100k gold) each time you sell something it counts as gaining the gold

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5VVhO3IPa0
you can see the same time i made the video is the same day i got the achievement for it by my profile pic on this site.

My solution is simple...

Do Not Boost this.

If you are completing the game dont waste your time with the other solutions.

The difference between this simple approach and the other solutions is you will have to play longer (complete) the campaign. There is not anyone near the last collectible to buy stuff from. If you do "boosting" as documented in other solutions, you would not have to get to the end of the campaign a second time. The walkthrough describes all of this in detail.

What on earth are you talking about spacedvest2 , this tip is literally the only reasonable way to NOT have to make multiple playthroughs. The money making tip doesn't work on Master difficulty because of the cost of items.

Once you have around 15,000 - 20,000 gold simply go to one of the 'tradesmen' and just buy untill your inventory is full then sell all of it and repeate the process. But because you recieve less from selling than the cost of buying you will eventually run out of money just after you spend double what you started with e.g if you start the buying/selling process with 15,00 gold once you've spent around 30,000 gold you will run out of money. So make sure you know how much money left you need for the achievement before starting the process.

Oh well in that case you can get this achievement as soon as you've done chapter 1 as long as you've got atleast 1 gold

Is there a way off tracking how much you spent? Or is it a case of just ploughing through? Thanks

I'm playing stealth/ghost so I haven't been upgrading any of my gear so I have approximately 25k - I've completed the game and now just cleaning up. I haven't found all loot but obviously a good amount.

What I did was make sure first you buy the 2 discounts, gear and poppies and the inventory expansions -- it all counts toward the 40k mark anyway.

I found that filling my inventory cost me about $2,100 and then selling it off I got back $1,500, so only losing $600 for each round of spending $2,100. I think I ran through my inventory 12-14 times before the the achievement popped and thankfully it does pop as you're buying from a merchant.

This trophy requires you to spend a total of 40,000 gold in the game. Gold can be spent either at the Shady Merchant for equipment and resources, or donated to the Beggar Queen for additional focus points.

I found the easiest way to get this was actually by also getting the "What's Yours is Mine" trophy for picking up all the collectibles. This will basically help you get two birds, er I mean trophies, with one stone.

As well as getting a small bonus for each full set of collectibles you collect, when you have all of them, you get a bonus of 30,000 gold. In conjunction with what you've collected and spent through the main story mode, this should be more than enough to get you past the 40,000 gold mark. Now you just have to spend it.

There are two super-expensive pieces of equipment at the Shady Merchant which will cost you 28,000 gold each, if you've been buying stuff throughout the story, especially the more expensive items like the bow strength and blackjack upgrades, the trophy should drop pretty much as soon as you buy one of the two super-expensive items.

Simply put, spend your "hard earned" monies! You will need to purchase a total of 40,000G worth of items in one save file in order for this trophy to pop.

Because this is quite a high amount of money that you will need to amass, you will want to almost always look for possible loot when playing through the game, no matter how valuable or not they are. Do note however, that completing collectible sets will reward you with gold as well. A total of 30,000G is rewarded to you for finding all of the game's collectibles.

For the sake of having a list, here’s a list of items that Garrett can purchase that can improve his arsenal and efficiency and whatnot. Prices listed in the list are of Master difficulty:

Queen of Beggars (Focus Upgrades)

  • First Donation - 150G
  • Second Donation - 300G
  • Third Donation - 450G
  • Fourth Donation - 600G
  • Fifth Donation - 800G
  • Sixth Donation - 1000G
  • Seventh Donation - 1200G

*The rest of the Focus Upgrades are located in specific story chapters, as well as in the City.

Merchant (The Crippled Burrick and/or The Siren's Rest)

  • Resources
    • Broadhead Arrow - 75G
    • Fire Arrow - 100G
    • Water Arrow - 20G
    • Choke Arrow - 75G
    • Rope Arrow - 75G
    • Blunt Arrow - 5G
    • Flash Bomb - 125G
    • Poppy - 175G
    • Food - 125G
  • Tools & Upgrades
    • Wrench - 100G
    • Wirecutter - 450G
    • Razor - 500G
    • Bow Balancing -1400G/3600G
    • Bow Shot Strength - 1800G/2800G/????G
    • Quiver Capacity - 1200G/5000G
    • Leather Hardening - 1300G/2900G
    • Leather Padding 1000G
    • Leather Oil - 2800G
    • Blackjack Damage - 1500G/3500G/4990G
    • Lockpick Quality - 300G/840G
  • Trinkets
    • Lucky Coin (increases maximum focus)- 290G
    • Worldslayer (massively increases maximum Health and Focus) - 28000G
    • Ovengut Tonic Water (increases maximum Health and Focus) - 9800G
    • Doctor’s Orders (reduces cost of poppies)- 155G
    • Blackwing Feathers (increases damage of all Broadhead and Sawtooth arrows)- 3500G
    • Basso’s Bond (reduces cost of resources by 25%) - 750G
    • Grinning Salt (increases the health benefits of eating food) - 375G
    • Troy’s Satchel ( poppies + food capacity +2)- 1299G
    • Moss Quiver (Broadhead and Sawtooth arrows produce no sound on impact)- 325G
    • Embersage Oil (reduces damage taken from burning and traps) - 170G
    • Crosswind Medallion (reduces the chance of being hit by enemy projectiles) - 140G
    • Spectral Aspect (greatly reduces the chance of being seen by enemies) - 28000G

*You will occasionally run into merchants through certain story chapters and even certain parts of the City if you explore. However, they unlike the tavern merchants, they only sell you resources; nothing else.

My advice if you're going for all the achievements is to complete additional jobs in the city and collectibles achievements first as you'll should get enough money to complete it, just go to vendor near basso's location and buy all upgrades. However if you finished game and don't have 40k gold the best method is to buy cheaper gear upgrade from vendor and buy blast arrows and sell them. Repeat the buy&sell until achievement pops up. You'll need around 10 k to start with and then the process should take about 5-10 minutes

The majority of the gold you earn will come from locating the collectibles, including a 30,000g bonus for completing all the collections. This combined with the gold earned for finishing the main story will leave you with well over 40,000g by the end of a complete playthrough.

If you don't want to spend the gold just for the sake of the achievement you can perform a quick save in front of a store then buy whatever you want, once you have spent 40,000g the achievement will unlock and you can reload your save to get your money back.

Go to a vendor and buy the "Doctors Order" and "Basso's Bond" to reduce the price of Poppies and resources by 25%. If you want you can get the "Troy's Satchel" which increases your Poppy and food capacity by +2.

Now just keep buying Poppies for 17G and sell them back for 18G. If you have already spent a few thousand G in your playthrough this trophy should unlock really quickly. It took me about 20-30 mins.

It seems like a very large amount, especially considering how little the game gives, but there are two ways to get this trophy:

- The first is to buy and immediately sell BLUNT arrows, they cost 1 gold when buying and when selling, that is, you do not lose anything with this approach, and the cost counter is running.

- The 2nd method requires some expenditure of money - you buy a doctor’s DISCOUNT on a focus flower in the store and a 25% discount on all resources, and then a “miracle” happens - the flower now costs 17 gold, and we sell it for 18!!! It turns out when buying for sale Not only do you quickly increase the amount of costs approaching 40,000, but you also make a profit from it.

Let me add that this can only be done on easy difficulty. On the master, all goods will cost more, for example, the same blunt arrow on a light 1 g on a master 5 g

I advise you not to bother with buying and selling arrows and all that crap.

If you go for platinum, you will still need to get the trophy:

What's Yours is Mine / Everything yours is mine

While I was knocking it out and going through the game, I accumulated about 15,000 (I played on the “master” difficulty), so, the last of the 84 items that need to be collected, I took the figurine key and they gave me 30,000. The result was the amount 45,000.

It turns out that if you make one trophy, you automatically get a second one.
