How to unlock the Dust Hoarder achievement in Thimbleweed Park - Definitive Guide
One quick way to get all 3 achievements (which I did) is to save your game - pick one up, load your game before you picked one up, pick up the speck of dust again - reload save game.
Rinse and repeat 75 times. Takes 10-15 minutes for all 3 achievements. (Load a save game is quick in the game)
The first speck of dust (that I saw) can be found on the Highway to town. The one I used was on Main Street in town.
You can use the achievement tracker, to see how many specks you have collected.
If you do it this way, and then after unlocking the last one - load your save game before you collected your first speck of dust and then when you beat the game you can get the achievement for "Messy World" which is not collecting any specks of dust in one play through,
Have your tried to see if it goes up at all, after doing it?
It is possible it was a glitch that was fixed. But I think since it is over time, and not only on certain play throughs- it would not be changed.
If you could report back, that would be appreciated :)
Cheers.
You should be able to get all of these at the same time, and also save you the trouble of FINDING 75 specks of dust.
First, when you find a speck of dust on the ground, save your game in a new slot. Then pick up the dust. Make sure the achievement tracker ticks up when you pick it up.
Now reload the save. Voila! The dust has miraculously reappeared! Pick it up. Make sure the achievement tracker ticks up when you pick it up.
Now reload the save... the kicker is that if, once you pop the third achievement, you reload the save one more time, you'll have picked up no dust.
I suggest using the controller to do this, much faster than the on-screen load button. Put the cursor on the speck, then (your save) ... This should take 5-10 minutes for all 75 specks.
Now that you're clean (), continue with the game and Messy World should pop at the end of the game. (I'm still testing... but the game requires two plays anyway in case it doesn't work.)
This is not 100% necessary, as there are other achievements (Notably, Easy Win and Hard Won) that require two playthroughs, so you'll be playing this twice either way.
Are you old enough to remember pixel hunting? The designers of Thimbleweed Park certainly are, and they're going to make you do it for a trophy (three trophies, actually).
While playing through the game, you may notice stray white/gray pixels on the ground. These pixels are specks of dust, and can be picked up and added to character inventory. You will need to do this a total of 75 times to unlock this trophy.
What makes this difficult is that there are no set locations for these pixels. They appear randomly, and will often reappear after some time, so you will need to keep a sharp eye out during your initial playthrough.
The only tips I can give you are these:
- Whenever you enter a new area, walk around it in its entirety, searching for pixels. They will not always be there, but there's a good chance that every new screen will have one.
- I have never found more than one pixel per screen at any given time
- Any character (except Franklin) can pick up pixels. They do not have to be collected by a single character to count.
- Pixels will reappear in places you've already visited. So when revisiting locations, make sure to check for pixels.
- Most of the characters' to-do lists will have a pixel count (“collect X more”) so you'll have some way of keeping track. This is good, because looking at the dust specks in a character's inventory won't give you a precise count.
- There are no pixels in Part One, Part Nine, or flashbacks.
- More pixels will appear in Hard than will in Casual. Ergo, you will want to collect pixels during your Hard playthrough.
This is a cumulative trophy, so you do not need to get all 75 required pixels during your hard playthrough. However, your casual playthrough will involve you not picking up any pixels, so if you still don't have this trophy by the end of your hard mode playthrough, you will need to start a new game and play through while collecting pixels until you've finally unlocked the trophy, so be diligent during your first playthrough to save yourself cleanup time later.
There is a beneficial but tedious workaround if you don't want to pixel hunt. When you find a pixel, save the game, then pick it up. Reload your save and the pixel will have counted – and will also still be there. Rinse and repeat. I have tested this and as of Patch 1.01, this DOES work on the PS4 version. So you can either pixel hunt during your Hard playthrough and use this method near the end to clean up any pixels you're missing (starting in late Part Seven/early Part Eight) or you can do this on the first pixel you see in your game (it's tedious, but it gets the job done).
MISSABLE
You will notice small grey pixels on the ground as you play through the game. These are specks of dust that can be picked up. You have two options to complete the achievement, you can either play through the game (hard mode recommended as there are more areas and specks of dust) and pick up each one.
Or an alternate method is to make a save before picking up a speck, pick up the speck and then reload the game. This will count on the tracker and will allow you to pick up all 75 in just one location.
The game has a glitch that allows you to farm “clumps” by collecting only one.
As soon as you come across the first “lump”, save, pick it up, load, and so on until you receive the trophy.
Do it immediately when passing on Hardmode and go further without picking up the “lumps” to receive the “ Messy World / What a dusty world ” trophy.
