How to unlock the The school of life achievement in This War of Mine: The Little Ones - Definitive Guide

To get this achievement you have to teach a child every teachable craft in the game.

Once you have a child in your group, certain recipes will allow you to teach the child the recipe by pressing the Y button. The child will have to be in good health to learn, you can only craft one item to teach it, and it will take longer than usual. You will have to teach all the recipes to the same child in one play through. The child does not have to actually craft the item themselves, they just need to be taught it.

I did this in "create your own story" mode. I found that 20 days was not enough but 30 was plenty. I also set the game to low violence, no winter, and picked as many safe locations as I could. The characters I selected were Sergei (the child), Bruno (good cook), Marko (good scavenger), and Marin (Handyman which gives 20% discount to building workbenches).

The items you have to teach the child are as follows:
Workshop
Filter

Stove
Food
Fuel

Rainwater Collector
Clean water

Trap for Small Animals
Bait the trap

Herb Garden (Requires Improved Workshop)
Fertilizer
Herbs
Vegetable Garden (Requires Herb Garden and Advanced Workshop)
Vegetables

Herbal Workshop (Requires Improved Workshop)
Bandages
Cigarette
Home grown tobacco
Rolled up cigarette
Improved Herbal Workshop (Requires Herbal Workshop)
Quality roll up cigarette.

After you teach all 13 recipes, the achievement is yours.

This achievement is really simple. Start out a new game with a child in your group or take a child into your group. Each build-able workshop( herbal garden, herbal workshop, stove, trap for small animals, rainwater collector, and metal workshop) has options to where you can teach when crafting certain items like ( various cigarettes, fertilizer, filter, fuel, herbs, bandages, hot meals, etc,.) This also includes upgraded versions of the various workbenches.

The goal of this achievement is to teach any child everything there is to teach. My advice is to exhaust every single work bench with teaching. I had trouble figuring this one out because the last thing I had left to upgrade was the herbal garden and it unlocked the last teachable consumable which was growing vegetables.

Before you down vote, please ask me anything. I have thoroughly enjoyed this game and it has prompted me to start writing guides because this one was a difficult one to figure out. This is my very first guide, so please be kind! Thank you!

Thanks for this. I couldn't figure this one out myself. I have one more I'm unsure of. Do you know what needs to happen to get "Note: Everybody Got To Learn"?

Just a suggestion but it would be a really good idea to add the list above to the guide (with credit to the author of course)

In order to unlock this achievement, you will need to teach a child everything they could possibly learn in a single playthrough. When you go to make something, you will occasionally see an option to press to teach the child how to perform the task. It takes a bit longer to do this and the child cannot be overly sick, wounded or sad in order for this to be possible, but you will still see the option if you have not yet taught the child this skill. You will need the following items in the house to unlock this achievement:

  • Stove
  • Workshop
  • Small Animal Trap
  • Rainwater Collector
  • Improved Herb Garden
  • Improved Herbal Workbench

The object is to teach a child how to do things that can be done repeatedly, like cooking, growing vegetables, making medicine and the like. The only things that you cannot have the child do is work with alcohol (tobacco is fine, strangely), so you don't need them to work the still, make bandages and such. Once someone has taught the child everything they can, the achievement will unlock.
