How to unlock the For the Good Book states... achievement in Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales - Definitive Guide
-----
Shortly before you reach the south-eastern portion of the first map, you'll meet a colorful character named Eyck who wants to hunt a manticore. During this first interaction, choose the following dialogue:
- How goes your hunt?
- I shall help you if you then join us.
- I insist, Sir Eyck.
At this point, he will be in your party but has not technically agreed to travel with you outside of the manticore hunt, so continue north-westward to the lair. Once you interact with it, choose to be bold and stride forward.
The achievement will unlock after you defeat the manticore.

This solution will also unlock:
I know you can replay a chapter, in this case it's like starting a new game, but it breaks the continuity.
Unlocking this achievement depends on a choice you make earlier in the game.
And if you did the opposite, not only you miss this achievement, but also a powerful ally card for the rest of the game.
Poor flagged.
MISSABLE
While in Lyria, you’ll need to travel North of Hawkesburn to the church where you’ll obtain a side quest to recover coins that have been stolen. There is a bandit camp Northeast of the church, where you’ll see a point of interest marked. Go there and defeat the bandits and have the treasure RETURNED to the cloister.
Once returned, you’ll have to continue onward where you’ll eventually meet Eyck infront of Abbot’s Farm. Have him join with you to fight the Manticore, as it makes the fight much easier. Follow the path through the farm until you reach a cave. Here you will fight the beast. Win and Eyck will join you.
Eyck can be recruited during chapter 1, Lyria.
When you meet and speak to him he will be reluctant to join, so you will need to choose some dialogue options to convince him otherwise. You will need to agree to help him to defeat a Manticore, needed to unlock the achievement "Distillation of Filth" before he will join you. Take note that he will leave if you choose not to kill monsters, especially when said monsters are harming villagers. It doesn't matter if he does leave after joining your company; the achievement unlocks when he joins.
When speaking to him be sure to choose these dialogue options:
- "How goes your hunt?"
- "I shall help you if you then join us."
- "I insist, Sir Eyck."
Eyck's location is shown below; a cutscene will trigger as you cross the bridge to get to him.
