Thumper

S-Ranking the levels of Thumper is easier once the game has been played through for the first time, so it is highly recommended to do that first rather than have the frustration of trying it on your first attempt. Although S Ranking used to involve having to back up your save every time you perfectly cleared a checkpoint, but the Devs have since added a restart current and previous checkpoint option, to allow for an easier way to S Rank.

S-Ranking a sub section usually involves you having to not miss a single note, not taking damage at any point during the level, and also (from Level 5-5 onwards) performing certain actions such as a perfect turn and “Thumps”. A perfect turn can be achieved by hitting at the right time just before a turn happens, and a specific noise will be heard at this point different to the usual sound. A “thump” is when your bug is flying and then hit down, crashing onto another note and possibly activating a bonus note further on for more points (and an extra life if you had lost one before this.)

No misses and no damage is not always needed for this scenario, as in some of the longer levels a few notes can be missed or damage can be taken, so don’t always immediately restart from checkpoint. However, for bosses, it is recommended to try and achieve both of these bonuses, especially for the final boss as it is difficult to restart once the level is ending.

As there are no hidden points for this level, nothing extra should be required. After completing the game for the first time, S ranking this level should be fairly straight forward.
