How to unlock the YOU SHALL NOT PASS!!! achievement in Thymesia - Definitive Guide

This is a real pain no way around it. However I found a cheap little trick that will definitely save a ton of time so that you don't have to play the whole tutorial over. This method is dashboarding!!

If you have a bad start or are about to die press start and close out of the game. When you get back into game you will respawn with full health right in front of boss room.

Now the best part is even if you do die (you will) instantly open menu and close game. It will respawn you in front of boss arena with 0 health. However with just a short run back you can refill health at beacon. The enemies wont repawn either. Much faster than playing whole tutorial.

Now for tips on the fight.

Parry parry parry. All his attacks can be parried. Stay close to him and continue to attack with RB. The only time you will be using RT is after successful parries, or when he does the jump attack. And holding RT attack is not worth it, takes too long and using his stolen weapon is too slow of an attack.

This still took me over an hour, but once you get the parry timing down it's not too bad. Finished with 2 health potions left.

GOOD LUCK!

FINALLY did it! Happy is right, playing the patience game is the best method here. Still took me many tries but I finally got there in the end without taking any damage at all during my successful attempt.

If you're doing this right off the bat I wouldn't recommend trying to parry at all, just kite and poke.
Disengaging target lock gives your dodges (especially back dodge) more distance.
Use the feather (LT) to reset the wound timer and keep him from regenerating.

Cool to see you guys get it without parrying, I couldn't get the dodges down always seemed too slow.

That closing out doesn’t work anymore. EVERYTIME the cutscene starts, pause or not, it loads me into the next part when I load back from the dashboard.

I think he is one of the easiest enemies to parry in the game and possibly the easiest boss to do so. I dunno if it would help anyone or not, but during my playthrough I eventually figured out you can't really animation cancel in this game. So if you're in the middle of an attack you won't be able to parry an attack or dodge if you're busy with that. I started being able to parry a bit more reliably after I figured that out. So best thing to do here is to parry his combo and then follow up with some attacks. If you're trying to wail on him you might be stuck in an animation when you need to parry. Most of the time he does a 2 attack combo, sometimes there is a 3rd hit he does so that is something to be wary of.

After playing Sekiro and Lies of P, this only took me 15 or so attempts. I wanted to make it a point to get it before the Die Once achievement. I think I like this game.

From what I seen, there is a MASSIVE amount of active frames once you press it, but there is still a bit of a gap to where you can still get hit. So you can spam parries back to back and do successful ones most of the time.

Still a friggin hard boss though since he’ll take you out in two hits no problem.

EDIT: Ok no there isn’t any huge active frames lol, guess I just got lucky with the timing cause now I can’t do this at all. I’m gonna carry on and see if there’s a new game plus to do this at then to make it much easier.

Thanks for the dashboard tip smile
To anyone reading this that is horrible at parrying (like me) you can easily chip away his health by running around him in circles, or side to side if he is too close to a wall.

Wait for him to either do the jumping smash attack, or when he runs at you swings around followed by an overhead smash. When he does either of these moves hit him twice with the sabre, dodge back twice and continue running. Wait for one of those attacks again and hit him once with the claw. (Sometimes he will recover from his wounds while you wait for an opening, but remember it's a patience game, not a race)

Never try to get some hits in when he does 2 overhead smashes in a row! He can recover from that move surprising quick... and it's not worth the risk.

The only damage you need to be mindful of is his forward sword lunge! I got hit by it a couple times...

If you like me can't parry the boss, here how I've done it:

Just run around the arena.
As soon as he start chasing you, he does two things: a big move with the sword upwards, or a horizontal slash followed by a slash to the ground. Both are really slow.

The second one is the move you can exploit: run away, wait for the big slash from above, charge in and hit him twice. Just be careful: the horizontal slash has a wide range and can actually hit you if you are too close.

Other than this, when he jump up, you can time the dash and get behind him for some free hit.

When he screams and slam the sword on the ground DODGE IT. It can hit you even if you think it's out of reach. You can hit him after this move too, but it's risky.

All other moves can be avoided just by running around and staying as far as you can.

Your base attack will chip at his maximum hp little by little, so It's safer to hit him with fast attacks. I managed to do it with 1 potion left, so there is room for mistakes.

IF you are out of potion or for whatever reason you feel like you are doomed, pause the game, go back to the menu and try again.
If the boss kill you, exiting on the dashboard won't help you (at least, didn't worked for me on my Xbox).

Good luck.

Problem for me is that the game seems intent on not letting me practice the parries to begin with.

I was successful with a modified version of your strat, though. I can't emphasize enough how important it is to just keep your distance, stay sprinting, and strafe side to side rather than directly away from him as much as possible. Don't approach if you are even slightly unsure. Do not get greedy with worrying about claw on the wounds. Commit to the long fight. The two attacks you can punish are the jumping ground slam, and the one where he runs up to you. 1-2 hits per. Only claw if you get both in a row. Literally any deviation from what I just said resulted in a quick death. You can easily die from one mistake.

Varg is the first boss at the end of the tutorial. You are meant to die to progress the story, but to unlock this achievement you have to deplete his health bar once.
He hits hard and you will be dead after 2 hits. Luckily he only has very few move sets and all are easily learnt after seen a couple of times.

To defeat him simply just stand still, wait for his attacks and parry each with LB. (Timing is crucial as you have a very small window to parry the attacks, but after a few tries you'll get used to it.)

As soon as he finished with his combo, hit RT ONCE and then wait for his next attack. Don't be greedy!

Keep repeating this until his heath bar is empty. The achievement should unlock after the cutscene starts.

It is worth mentioning that if you die and the cutscene starts, the game moves on to chapter One and you'd have to start a new game and replay the tutorial to try again.
There is a workaround though.

Play through the tutorial until you get to the chair. Then kill the knight so he drops the Key to the Cemetery. Once you have that, go back to the chair to save your game.
Now close your game so your save uploads to the cloud. Now you have a backup save and you're ready to move on to the boss.
If you happen to die, as soon as the cutscene starts do the following.

Hit the Guide button > press Start on Thymesia > Manage game > Save data > your Gamertag > Delete from console > B until you're back on the Home > Start game again and load your save.

Depending on how fast you quit out either you should be back at chair or front of the boss room with 0 health in which case you can just run back to the chair to refill it.

Good luck!

P.S.: This is my first guide so any feedback would be appreciated.

I struggled with this trophy for a long time.
For those who do not have a cloud (like me), you can quickly close the game and start it again. The murder cut-scene lasts about 3 seconds, turn it off - close it - go in. After the restart, you will find yourself at the entrance to the boss, run to the chair - heal and enter the battle.
The boss fight itself takes place through riposte. The problem is that you must defeat the boss without making any mistakes. Your character flies away in 2 hits, so the battle must be as precise as possible. First of all, you must learn Varg's moveset, the difficulty lies in fairly long animations and sweeping strikes. I often made the mistake here of parrying a little earlier. Hitting the boss yourself is almost pointless; the only case where this is necessary is when the white armor stripe begins to heal. In general, 2-3 reposts - an attack with claws and so on for the entire battle. If you receive damage, try to move two dashes away from the boss as soon as possible and heal the moment he finishes the attack. The main thing is not to rush.
I recorded a video of how I beat him, the mistakes that I made by being greedy and living ahead of time are clearly visible there.

Passed on the 3rd try. You parry all attacks, especially after his jumps, and then you hit him with your claws and break the distance. That's all the tactics. You can hit the saber once close, but no more and immediately dodge to the side.

You can clear the training location and throw it into the cloud (whoever has it) and try as much as you like) I spent about 2 hours.

I’ll add to the tips, Varg has attacks with which he immediately deals 2 hits in a row and sends them to rep. if you get hit by one, the Persian will substitute himself and you will most likely receive a second blow. press the OPTIONS button and the game stops. close the game and start the battle again.

in order to reach the boss you need to kill only 2 mobs. a woman with a dagger in front of the first gate and a man with a two-handed weapon after the chair.

What helped me was reassigning the parry button to
It turned out more convenient
You can exit and close the game through the PS button and find yourself in front of the entrance to the boss if you missed one hit, and either there are no heals or time to heal. We run back, go out, replay the battle. If the capture animation starts, then after exiting via PS there is only a new game.

The option of minimizing the game did not work for me, I had to start the New Year.
I tried to parry while jumping and “bite off” with my claws - it doesn’t work, sooner or later you’ll make a mistake, and you’ll be poking him this way for a long time.
The fastest tactic is to parry at close range-->bite with claws-->spam saber between attacks. To parry, I recommend focusing on his sword, when he starts moving towards you from the dead zone, feel free to parry, it’s just that the boss has different attack timings and in order not to take risks, I advise you to concentrate on the movement of his sword when he is already moving towards you from the dead point . With jumps it’s about the same, you focus on the moment when he already begins to descend towards you from the highest point of the jump. After switching to this tactic, I tried it and killed with 3 tries.

I personally don’t like to play through a counterattack, so I fought Varg purely on evasions. From the very beginning of the battle I put the R3 sight on him and danced around him. This tactic is also quite working, if this style of play is closer to you, the main thing is to learn to correctly catch the timing, at what point in the boss’s swing with the sword you need to press dodge. Quitting the game during the death animation in case of failure will not help, the game is immediately saved at the moment of receiving a fatal blow, and you will have to start again from the beginning of the game. Therefore, I advise you to go to the main menu as soon as you run out of potions and feel that you are not taking them out. Then appear in front of the boss next time.

I'll share my tactics without parrying.
We keep our distance from Varg, we always avoid all attacks by dodging to the right. We wait, the most convenient chance to kick the boss is after he jumps with a sword attack (he does this quite often). We dodge him to the right, deliver a series of regular blows, and leave the boss. From a distance, we periodically throw a knife so that the green health bar of the enemy does not become covered with white. After the next jump, we strike with a claw + one simple blow and move away into the distance. It is dangerous to deliver more blows. If Varg deals 2-3 blows with his sword close, we dodge all of them to the right in time, then you can also deliver your own series of blows.

Getting this trophy will not be difficult if you have completed all the bosses; it is rather more annoying to run to the boss if you did not have time to restart the battle. Catch him jumping and calmly deliver 4 saber strikes, then wait for his next attacks while throwing feathers and using your claws to take away the green scale. The main thing is to keep it at a distance, in particular lunge forward. But as I said after 5 times with the last boss, it becomes easier once you learn all the mechanics

Let's go through the game completely!
After completing the game you will have a save in the first cell of the game.
1) We start a new game and, having cleared the location in front of the boss, save ourselves near the lantern in the cloud.
2) This save will be in the second memory cell of the game.
3) Load the first save and in Philosopher's Hill select the task Fortress of Hermes, 1 task to find hearts and go to this boss and here the most important thing is you can study his muffset indefinitely without RESTARTING the game, the lantern is next to the boss door and you can die endlessly for a long time until you train him 100% to reflect his blows until you wear off his first health bar without treatment at all, having fulfilled this condition, load the second cell where you saved before the boss in the new game.
I killed him easily and quickly. It all took about fifteen minutes.
