How to unlock the Baltic Explorer achievement in Ticket to Ride: Classic Edition - Definitive Guide

The description of this achievement should be clear enough. You have to score more points than your opponent(s), while creating a single route of all your 45 trains which also connects the cities of Stockholm and Petrograd through the 8-piece tunnel.

Make sure you are playing the standard European map, playing any other European map and meeting the requirements will not unlock this achievement!

The best advice I can give is to make sure that you start out with 2 destination tickets that are at least somewhere close to the 8-piece tunnel or located on the northern and eastern parts of the map (or to be connected through pieces of railway which need more trains to be finished). This is for decreasing the chances of an opponent surprisingly placing their trains on the 8-piece tunnel before you can. After a few restarts I got to pick Brest - Petrograd and Petrograd – Kyiv which worked out just fine for me.

After completing Brest - Petrograd I still had quite some trains left to spend. I also needed to connect to Kyiv. Luckily both Petrograd and Kyiv are on the part of the map with larger pieces of rail, so by taking a small detour I spent all my trains, went to Kyiv and finished the game while my opponent still had 11 trains remaining.

In my achievement-winning game my yellow railway network scored 126 against Marg Loughbot, who managed to score 96 points:

I've used this map and beaten my opponent by using all 45 trains connected from Cadiz to Kyiv. It asks me at the end to place the human icon at the end of the game. I don't get this achievement! Why is that?!

Did you place all your trains in one single line while using the 8-piece tunneltrack on the northern side of the map?
