How to unlock the Mandala Maharaja achievement in Ticket to Ride: Classic Edition - Definitive Guide
The objective of this achievement is to have 5 completed destination tickets that are connected through a closed circle/loop. This guide is not really a walkthrough but more a collection of tips that helped me.
It is advised that you start with 2 small destination tickets that are very close to each. If you are unable to find those in the 5 destination tickets you can pick from, simply restart your game. In my achievement-winning game I was able to pick these destination tickets at the beginning of the game:
- Lucknow to Bombay
- Bezwada to Ratiam
For my first and second turn I picked new ones, hoping to find the remaining destination tickets close to the ones I have already picked. This worked out great, resulting in me also having to finish these ones:
- Ambala to Waltain
- Ambala to Ratiam
- Jaipur to Patna
Having 5 short destination tickets close to each other, I started to connect them in a closed loop. They were easy to notice as the look of the dot was different compared to cities I did not have to connect.
When I managed to complete the 5-ticket Mandala, giving me 40 bonus points, I had 11 trains left. I decided to see whether luck was on my side and drew another destination ticket. I was lucky, as Patna - Mormugau was completed by just 1 extra piece of railway.
At this point I simply built some bigger pieces of track to score some extra points. In the end these points were not really necessary, as me and my yellow railway network ended up with 147 points. This was more than enough to beat Marg Loughbot who 'only' managed to get 99 points. A visual aid, for those who are interested, of my achievement-winning:
The biggest tip I want to give, do not exaggerate with getting extra points after completing your 5-ticket Mandala. This will give you 40 bonus points, which in my case was more than enough to score a lot more than my opponent. Don’t take a chance if this is not needed as you don’t want to end up with a deduction.
