How to unlock the 15 Punched Tickets achievement in Ticket to Ride: Classic Edition - Definitive Guide

This will be one of the hardest achievements to get because you'll need everything to come together just right. For this achievement, you'll need to have completed 15 of the 30 possible tickets in a single game. You don't need to win at least, but you likely will unless you cleaned out the entire draw deck.

The most effective route for this is to cross Canada while avoiding the country completely. Instead we'll move down the west coast, and move up to Montreal diagonally, trying to hit as many destinations along the way.
This route is probably the most optimal:
Main route:
Vancouver -> Seattle -> San Fransisco -> Los Angeles -> Phoenix -> Santa Fe -> Oklahoma City -> Kansas City - > St. Louis -> Chicago - Pittsburgh -> New York -> Montreal
Detours:
Santa Fe -> Denver
Santa Fe -> El Paso
Oklahoma City -> Dallas -> Houston -> New Orleans
St. Louis -> Nashville -> Atlanta

Taking the above route will get 18 of the 30 tickets:
Chicago <> New Orleans
Chicago <> Santa Fe
Dallas <> New York
Denver <> El Paso
Denver <> Pttsburgh
Kansas City <> Houston
Los Angeles <> Chicago
Los Angeles <> New York
Montreal <> Atlanta
Montreal <> New Orleans
New York <> Atlanta
Portland <> Nashville
Portland <> Phoenix
San Fransisco <> Atlanta
Seattle <> New York
Seattle <> Los Angeles
Vancouver <> Montreal
Vancouver <> Santa Fe

Doing this route perfectly and getting longest route would net a player 287 points, also easily securing the base game's Pressure Gauge achievements.

What will make getting this the easiest is more dependent on luck though, as you want the AI to draw tickets that keep them far away from your route. Ideally, you want them to have their starting tickets involve Winnipeg, Calgary, or Miami as those have the least chance of blocking your routes.

Any advice on when to draw tickets? Grab them all at the beginning of the game?

Who do you play against? How many bots? Do you go get tickets first? How do you stall the computer from finishing before you can get enough tickets and to lay your tracks?

Because I can’t get 15 tickets and still lay all my tracks down

This achievement is stupid, tried for hours and I do get down the main route and some branches, but the AI makes a run to complete the game every single time if I get down to about 15 cars, no matter what I do, ugh. 11 tickets is the highest I got.

I don't know if this has changed, but I've just played about 2 dozen games on the PC and NEVER ONCE has the AI glitched at 3 trains. They always just finish the game. Good luck everyone.

It took me about 50-100 attempts (I wasn't counting). I think the trick is to BLOCK the AI's route in order for them to stall on 4 remaining trains. When I won this, it was the first time I consciously blocked the AI and the first time the AI claimed NO routes, and hence I believe the stall.

Great solution. I also found a photo of all the tickets. Being as I have not played this game a lot I'm not familiar with all of them. This helped alot. https://imgur.com/a/roZT84U

I'm of the opinion that going from Sante Fe to Denver, then to KC is the better option. It uses the same amount of turns and score more points, plus there are Denver routes in the deck also. It also gives you a reason to use black cards and cuts out the three blues that are needed from Sante Fe to OKC. The only downside going this way instead is using up one more train. Once I started this route instead, I was completing more tickets easier and eventually got it, plus the 240 pts.

This aside, everything else looks great!:)

Ok I found a way to do it. You have to start claiming the tracks pretty early. It kind of puts Marg Loughbot in a cycle of pulling cards. You want to go with one computer and don’t grab new destination tickets until you already have that direct line the solution talks about. Then you can branch out as necessary after that. I didn’t pull a single destination ticket until the main line was completely built.

Thank you for this guide - it took several attempts but in the end it all fell into place. For me I had to start collecting tickets mid way (say with 20 or so tracks remaining) - if I completed all the tracks first, then the bot seemed to just panic and force the end of the game.

What an annoying achievement...

Had the Problem, that the ai finished the Game if i have less than 20 wagons. And Started a Panic Mode...

So i had the same questions like studlybambi and cheshiremulisha.
I found other Tipps, with Jane stanbot it worked in my First try.
She didnt Finish and Start Throwing cards with 3 Wagons Left.
So i can Finish my Route and throw enough cards.

Thanks @EmporerDragon, that main route was a game changer for me and the achievement was pretty straightforward with that. You've just enabled me to get my first 100% game. Woohoo.

I was so thrilled I gave it another go this morning and recorded it. This is the second game I played. https://youtu.be/nXz8JnnpQbE

I think you are just lucky that the AI stalls and isn't playing the final trains. For me, the AI plays down the trains no matter what routes I have or how many trains I have left.

I disagree - using that route, with that AI, that's what the AI does!

It's worked for me in 2 of my last 3 attempts. The one it didn't work in I abandoned early when the AI placed wagons on one of my lines. I'm confident I could achieve it again, if so desired, using this methodology, within an hour or so.

I'll try again, I'll keep u updated. I had my route connecteed through Chicago so only a little bit different, maybe that's why it didn't work.

Looking at FrozenBubble's video, one key difference I noticed is that he's on PC instead of console. The console version's a port of the mobile version instead of the PC version, so AI behaviors might be different between the systems.

Regardless, this is still a bs achievement bordering on the theoretical limits of the game (This route + ticket combo is 7 points short of a perfect game) that relies on having both insane amounts of luck and incompetence from the opponent.

I'm playing on console, doesn't work here, when I'm close to my last 3 trains, the AI places all the trains to end the game. Guess I'm going to download the pc version

I'm down to three trains a couple of times and the AI finished the game anyway. Stupid game

Damn. Sorry Dr Tinus NL, I didn't appreciate that PC and Console versions were different and this was of significance.

Is there a way on TrueAchievements to subscribe to threads to be notified of posts? I've had a poke around and can't see any way of doing it.

I saw the video and saw you were on pc, but it's pretty stupid it can achieved easier on the pc than on the Xbox. I cannot get it done, lol. And it plays a lot shittier on the Xbox, placing trains can be pretty annoying.

Okay, got it on my second try while on my laptop, after trying at least 150 times on the One... The enemy stalled the first time as well but I didn't have one city connected so couldn't get it done. Did it on my second try and the AI kept taking cards and allowed me to get destination tickets for 10 rounds straight.
Thanks for your replies. 100% the base game whiiiii

The Route is impeccable. The added bits to make it work are:

Play on PC. It has different logic than the Xbox One and will allow you to get a glitch to work in your favor.
Play against Jane. In certain situations, when she has 3 trains left, she'll glitch, and ONLY draw two cards from the deck.

You will have to restart if your route gets messed up (the only area that's forgivable is the 3 track from Phoenix to Santa Fe, since you'll be going down to El Paso anyway.
Keep trying, and, eventually, when you get lucky, you'll be able to draw enough tickets during Jane's glitching to get the achievement.

Finally got it. Took maybe 10 attempts following the guide wtih 3 useful tickets on the draw. Be sure to get 3 useful tickets on the draw. I think the glitch is dependent on what the AI draws. I did it on PC for those that believe the AI to be different.

Here is a video of me completing this achievement following EmporerDragon's method, but this gives an idea of which bot to choose and strategy for drawing routes (notice I have only 2 routes at the start of the vid). I started off by drawing all the trains I would need to build the route |I wanted, waiting to see which tracks the bot would pick. The last card I picked was an open joker to get to exactly 45 cards in hand.

This took me at least 100 attempts for everything to fall into place having experimented with different bots and strategies for drawing routes and cards.

If you find a better method please post!

I would put the bots you chose and stuff in your solution in words, rather than making people watch a video for that simple bit of info. Just saying.

Also, to be able to draw 15 straight tickets without the bot even taking 1 turn is nothing at all but dumb luck. 99.9 percent of the time, when the bot only has 5 trains left, it will end the game before someone can literally draw 15 straight tickets. Glad you got it though

Well, I did it! I finally did it!
15 Punched Tickets, Pressure Gauge 240, and all 20x Achievements complete on the USA map. I recorded my game completion and narrated it with (hopefully) helpful hints and tips - If you don't fancy scanning through the video and me talking, I've put a bullet point list of the hints I used in the description:
