How to unlock the Business Angel achievement in Ticket to Ride: Classic Edition - Definitive Guide
The description of this achievement should be clear enough. Purchasing the technology card needed for this achievement, being ‘Boiler Lagging’, actually makes things easier for you. According to the in-game description, you will score 1 extra point for each track you place your trains upon:
- Wick to Edinburg
- Cardiff to Reading
- Manchester to Plymouth
After purchasing the ‘Boiler Lagging’ technology card for 2 locomotives (or 4 other cards as a replacement for each locomotive), start to place your trains on the tracks like you would normally do. It very well might happen that you missed one or two technology cards when picking these destination tickets. In my achievement-winning game I also had to purchase these technology cards:
- Mechanical Stoker (allowing you to claim 3-space routes, cost: 1 locomotive)
- Scotland Concessions (allowing you claim routes in Scotland, cost: 1 locomotive)
For some pieces of track, for example going from Cardiff to Bristol, you will need the ‘Propellers’ technology card as this connection requires you to build a ferry. Take a close look when picking your destination tickets as not all ferries are located in the sea/ocean.
Given that there is no strict set-up needed and you can basically play the way you like to play this game, I am unable to give a step-by-step guide on meeting the requirements needed for this achievement.
What I can do, is share a screenshot my achievement-winning game. I managed to complete 4 different destination tickets, making my yellow railway network scoring a total of 83 points. This was only barely enough to take the victory, as my opponent Marg Loughbot scored 81 points, completing 3 out of 3 destination tickets:

Boiler Lagging
You score 1 extra point for each route that you claim after you purchase Boiler lagging. When combined with Steam Turbines, you score 3 points for each Ferry route that you claim.
When picking your destination tickets at the beginning of the game, do whatever suits your style of playing this game. I suggest making sure that the routes you will have to create are close to each other. Also take into account that you might have to purchase some additional technology cards to be able to connect two cities needed for your destination ticket. In my achievement-winning game I started out with these:You score 1 extra point for each route that you claim after you purchase Boiler lagging.
