How to unlock the France - Wales achievement in Ticket to Ride: Classic Edition - Definitive Guide
The description of this achievement should be clear enough. You will have to finish a game while scoring more points than your opponent(s), while also making sure that you will have a railway connection between the country of France and any city located in Wales.
To be able to meet the requirements needed for this achievement, you want to make sure you have at least these technology cards purchased:
- Wales Concessions (allowing you claim routes in Wales, cost: 1 locomotive)
- Ireland / France Concessions (allowing you to claim routes in Ireland and France, cost: 1 locomotive)
- Propellers (allowing you to claim ferry routes, cost: 2 locomotives)
And depending on the route you take laying down your trains, you might need this technology card as well:
- Mechanical Stoker (allowing you to claim 3-space routes, cost: 1 locomotive)
When starting your game pick any opponents you like to play against. I chose 1 Marg Loughbot for no particular reason, other than I did not want C. Huntington to start placing trains on the small routes in England.
When picking your destination tickets, try to pick one that is close to the route you have in mind between Wales and France. It saves you some time when placing down your trains to connect the required countries while also receiving some points for completing a destination ticket. On the other hand, with the correct technology cards you will only need 6 trains to create the needed connection. That would leave you with 35 - 6 = 29 remaining trains to do whatever you may need to score some points.
As there are many ways of playing this map it is impossible for me to write down a step-by-step guide. I can however share the process I went through in my achievement-winning game:
