How to unlock the Modest Entrepreneur achievement in Ticket to Ride: Classic Edition - Definitive Guide
For this achievement you must win a game while avoiding receiving the bonuses awarded at the end of the game being:
- The most routes completed
- The longest continuous railway network
There might be multiple possibilities to meeting the requirements needed for this achievement, but this is the way I managed to do this against one opponent being Marg Loughbot:
When picking your destination tickets in the beginning, I suggest only picking 3 out of 5. Only 2 out of 3 destination tickets you want to complete, preferably with larger pieces of track. You will find these in the western and northern parts of the map. Your third destination ticket is one you do not want to complete, so pick the one with the least amount of points. In my achievement-winning game, i started the game with:
- Vancouver to Duluth
- Seatle to Ohkoloma City
- Boston to Washington (my throwaway route of only 4 points)
Complete your destination ticket with the biggest possible pieces of track. If possible go for the 5-piece and 6-piece tracks. When done with the two destination tickets you wanted to complete, try to build as many 5 or 6-track railways for extra points and make sure to keep those separated from your finished railway. You will need them as both bonuses have to go to your opponent. A railway of 6 pieces will give you 15 points, resulting in the highest points-per-train-ratio.
After I completed my destination tickets, I also built Calgary - Winnipeg - Sault St. Marie and Los Angeles - El Paso - Houston for an extra 4 x 15 = 60 points.
While I had enough cards for my last track of 6 pieces for quite a while, I waited until I received the notification that my opponent had less than 2 trains. I did this to make sure that my opponent completed as much destination tickets as possible, while also giving my opponent as much possibilities to create a network of railway larger than mine. This is however a part of the game you want to be aware of your opponent as they should not receive too much points.
Even though I received this achievement playing against Marg Loughbot (which I chose for no particular reason), fellow TA-member TheOnlyMatto commented that it may be easier playing against (multiple) C. Huntingbot, as this particular opponent is more likely to claim the smaller routes, leaving the bigger ones just for you!
In my achievement-winning game my yellow railway network ended up with 128 points, while Marg Loughbot managed to score 95 points. I managed to complete (the planned) 2 out of 3 destination tickets, while my opponent finished 3 out of 4. Both bonuses at the end of the game were given to my opponent:
This achievement is for the most part based on luck, given on the destination tickets you pick and on how well your opponent performs during the game. I hope this guide can be at least a bit helpful for those looking to receive this achievement! :)

I ended up doing a slightly modified version of JeroenRos's solution:
I started a 2 player game against Marg Loughbot with the following intentions:
1) Complete ONE trip card
2) Keep my remaining trains ABOVE what Marg had
This was done because everytime I completed two trip cards Marg's AI freaked out and completed 0 trip cards while just collecting 6 piece tracks.
For my travel cards I selected:
- Vancouver to Duluth (13 pts) - made sure to take the two 6-piece sections
- Vancouver to Portland (2 pts)
- Toronto to Charleston (6pts?)
As play started I concentrated on collecting cards to complete my one trip if they were available in the face up section otherwise i just grabbed cards from the top of the deck. Once I completed my trip card I then focused on collecting train cards for the remaining 6 piece sections with (do not take the 6 piece section from Duluth to Toronto), but I only played my trains when my count of remaining trains would be greater than or equal to Marg's remaining trains.
This "should" allow Marg time to complete more than 1 of her trip cards while building a track longer than my one trip card. I said should because this is almost entirely luck.

I think the best way to do this is with 4 C. Huntingbots, I was trying to do it with 1 for about 2 hours and i got it first go with 4.
After trying numerous times doing like the other solutions say without any luck, here's how I did it. And this isn't to say the other solutions aren't good, I just kept running into the problem of the AI only completing one ticket also (or none), which means you both get the Globetrotter bonus, meaning no achievement! It was hard enough getting the AI to complete even one route, let alone the 2 needed to let them have that end game bonus.
You're already spotting the AI 25 pts. from the beginning by not getting these two bonuses, so we gotta not lose much more than that with our routes as well.
Keep loading up games until you get three single digit routes, the smaller the better, obviously.
Just keep drawing cards off the deck until you've got about 6 of each color, then start drawing from the face up ones to finish out any groups of 6 as needed, until you're at or about 45 total cards.
Then, if you feel confident the AI has completed at least one route (and can't be a coast to coast one...too many points there) just start blowing out your cards on the 6 spots until you trigger the end of the game. The longest your train should be if you don't do the three routes (yellow, orange, pink) consecutively is 12. So as long as the AI has MORE than 12, not 12, because you share ties, then this should be the easy part.
I believe your total points at the end, before counting your routes, should be around 105-109 pts.
Then, it's just a little bit of hope and luck that the AI completed at least one route. There's also a good chance, since you have 3 of the low scoring routes, that the AI will have higher ones and therefore lose more points at the end if they don't complete those.
This method, like the others, will take a few attempts because of the unpredictable AI, but it's how I finally did it.
