How to unlock the Romanov Train achievement in Ticket to Ride: Classic Edition - Definitive Guide
To get this achievement you have to score more points than your opponent(s) while also connecting these Russian Imperial cities (as of the year 1912):
- Petrograd
- Riga
- Wilno
- Warszawa
- Smolensk
- Moskva
- Kyiv
- Kharkov
- Rostov
- Sevastopol
- Sochi
Make sure you are playing the standard European map, playing any other European map and meeting the requirements will not unlock this achievement!
There are multiple ways to connect these cities, all located in the northern and eastern part of the map. One advice is to make sure that the destination tickets you start the game with are as close to this part of the map. After a few restarts I drew Amsterdam - Wilno & Frankfurt - Smolensk. I thought it was worth a try as both destination tickets share a lot of tracks and have one destination needed for the achievement.
The positive thing about this achievement is that all pieces of railway cost quite a few trains. You are quite likely to end up depleting your stack of trains before your opponent does. Use this to your advantage to claim the bonus for having longest route or to make your opponent(s) fail to finish one or multiple destination tickets because they are lacking turns. In my game the opponent had 11 out of 45 trains still remaining.
As there is not really a strict guide possible for this achievement, I’d like to share an image of my achievement-winning game. My yellow railway network ended up receiving 116 points, which was more than Marg Loughbot who only ended the game with 64 points:
I am not sure whether you can still receive this achievement when connecting through your opponent's railway by placing a station. If someone could let me know in the comments, I can add it to this solution and give you credits!
* if for some reason the image is not present in this solution, just let me know, I can re-upload it! :)
