How to unlock the Trestle achievement in Ticket to Ride: Classic Edition - Definitive Guide
Set up a solo game with one computer player: C Huntingbot.
Importantly, make sure that you have two tickets with very low points values. If one of those can be Denver - El Paso, even better. If you have to choose two tickets with values over 10 each, restart the game.
Now, keep drawing cards from the pile (the face-down pile). Hopefully this will give you a good even spread of cards in your hand, but if it gets to the point where you have six on one colour and few of other colours, choose those colours from the face-up slots.
Once you have five or six of each colour, or you have sufficient locomotive cards to make up five or six for each colour, start to lay down your sets. The reason you should wait to do this is that the AI will generally not start laying down longer sets until after you have, at which point he will try to complete his lines. Make sure that you keep an eye on how many trains you have left; you want to make sure that you do not end up with only three or four at the end of a round. Since you start with 45, if you can lay down five groups of six you will then have 15 cars left over, at which point you can lay down groups of five. If you have the Dever - El Paso ticket, try to make sure the final group you lay down is the three-car connection from Phoenix to El Paso.
Unfortunately, this isn't guaranteed, and it might take a few turns until you unlock the achievement. The reason for this strategy is that you maximise your points for laying down trains, while hopefully preventing the AI from completing his tickets. If he has been lucky with tickets, though, you may be out of luck. Due to the location of the long tracks, while you do get more points for the trains you lay you will not be completing tickets, so it's important they are as low value as possible for when those points get taken off your total.
Good luck!
