This achievement is accomplished in career mode. After winning the first nine tournaments of the first season, I was given a full screen message congratulating the golfer for reaching the number one ranking, however the career goals where not reflecting that number one ranking and this achievement did not fire. After winning the next tournament, the career goals did reflect the number one ranking and the achievement did fire. Seems like the standard programming error of checking the status at the end of a round, before updating that status with the just completed round's data.
Hopes this eases some minds if the achievement does not fire when expected.

Nothin' doin W/R/T this achievement as far as the Ladies' tour goes. As I'm sure many of us did, I imported my TW13 character, which was already >50. So, I began grinding away towards Level 50 when I hit #1 in the Rolex rankings. No dice, both from reaching #1 by winning a tourney and defending the #1 ranking by winning the next tourney.

This achievement will come naturally towards the end of your first season if you've won/placed well in enough tournaments. You can check your position at any time through the menus Career/Stats and Leaderboards/EA Sports Golf Rankings.

You need to get this trophy in career mode. As you continue to play tournaments, your rank will fluctuate depending on how well you do and in what tournaments. You can get this trophy by the end of your first year in career if you win at least 3 of the 4 major tournaments; winning the big tournaments has the most effect on your golfer rank. I suggest that in career that once you are in the PGA Tour, you play every event ensuring that you receive the various trophies, such as the ones for winning the masters and the FedExCup. After you reach the #1 ranking, your trophy will pop.
