How to unlock the Troon Open Champion achievement in Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 14 - Definitive Guide

You must have earned the Big Three achievement (unlocking Arnold Palmer) to obtain this.

From the main menu go to Quick Play and select Quick Tournaments, and the Open Championship, with Royal Troon chosen as the course. Two In the Running is the default scenario, so just choose Arnold Palmer as your golfer (either era is fine), and then Tee Off.

You must win to unlock the achievement, which is simple enough if you've got the difficulty turned all the way down. I started at 16 under, and the leaders at -19, with my playing partner (McIlroy) going from -16 to -19 during the round, so a -4 round will probably do. The achievement will unlock after the 18th hole.

McIlroy had -8 in the round for me. Luckily I managed a -16, so it wasn't that bad, but the first nine it was very close and he was one shot ahead of me most of the time.

I did use the 1960's Arnold but did not touch any of the settings (as I know from other achievements, this can screw the achievement).

You can also get this achievement by using 1960s Arnold Palmer which I believe is unlocked by completing the legend requirements for the 1958 Amen Corner challenge prior to unlocking the Big Three achievement

The tees you pick, and the version of Arnold do not matter. HOWEVER, it will not unlock if you change any of the settings, or even enter the settings menu immediately before starting your round. I have also had problems with the Quick Tournament achievements unlocking if you play any other mode after starting up the game. So, for example, if you want to play from the red tees, set it up, switch to red tees, start playing. During the first hole, quit out of the round, then quit to the dashboard once you're back at the game menu. Start the game back up. After "pressing start" go into Quick Tournaments, set it up, and start playing (without entering the settings menu ... it will remember your last setting). THEN it will pop at the end of the round. F'ing EA.

When I unlocked the 1958 Arnold Palmer, I attempted this achievement from the red tees and it did not unlock. I then read the other guide which stated that you need to use the 1972 Arnold Palmer. I continued playing until I unlocked him and decided to check the guides before attempting this achievement again.

Well, I just finished playing with 1972 Arnold from the black tees, easily won the tournament and the achievement unlocked. I know the game is buggy so I can't say for certain if it is the black tees, the 1972 Arnold, or some other variable but I wanted to share my experience so that it may help someone else.

FYI, I can confirm that it will unlock with the older Arnold Palmer and red tees as I just did it with those. HOWEVER, it will not unlock if you change any of the settings, or even enter the settings menu. I have also had problems with the Quick Tournament achievements unlocking if you play any other mode after starting up the game. So, if you want to play from the red tees, set it up, switch to red tees, start playing. During the first hole, quit out of the round, then quit to the dashboard. Start the game back up. Set up a tournament using the following settings: Quick play/Quick tournaments/Open Championship/Royal Troon Golf Club/Two in The Running scenario. Select Arnold Palmer as your golfer and leave the other as the default. Leave the round settings as default (reset to default if needed - but check them afterwards!), and play through 18 holes. The achievement will pop when your winning scorecard comes up on completion of the round.

First you must unlock Palmer after beating him in Legends of the Masters.

After unlocking him, choose the Open Championship and make sure the course selected is the Royal Troon. Select the scenario two in the hunt. Select Palmer as your golfer, and select a poor golfer such as Marshall Faulk as the AI opponent. Both you and the AI will start tied a couple strokes ahead of the rest of the field. Hit your shots, and win the round to receive your trophy.
