For this, you just need to make it to the 5th stage (the one with UFOs). You don't have to beat the stage, just arrive at the beginning and it should pop.

After hours of trying I finally got this today. I made it to 2001 several times and no achievement popped. That was because I set it to 5 lives at the beginning.
After I reset it to 3 lives and made it to 2001, the achievement popped without problems

For this achievement, you need to complete the fourth stage. This stage has you against jets that shoot bullets and fire homing missiles. There is a meter along the bottom of the screen to track your progress on how many enemies you’ve killed, which reduces as you shoot them down. Once you’ve killed 56 enemy jets, a B-52 Bomber plane will appear. Destroy it (it takes 7 hits) to unlock this achievement.
You can lose lives and still obtain this achievement as long as you complete the stage.
