How to unlock the Flag Runner achievement in Titanfall - Definitive Guide

Alright, so CTF matches can be a pain in the ass unless you have a plan in place for each map. Each of you will come up with your own strategies that suit your playstyle, but here's a few things I learned from my grind.

- Radar Pulse is the best ability in most cases. Cloak may get you by Titans and into the flag, and Stim IS damn useful, but Radar Pulse shows you where flag campers are. You can check where enemies are BEFORE you run outside. Situational awareness will win you more games than Cloak and Stim, generally. Stim should be your second choice, and you should have loadouts prepared with both abilites.
EDIT: I forgot to mention that Radar Pulse/Echo Vision WILL NOT work on cloaked enemies. You'll see them once they come out of cloak if your Pulse is still active, though.

- Your Titan is a suit of armor, and not much more than that when you have the flag. Don't take on enemy Titans if you can avoid it, and overuse your dash to get the hell back to your base (Dash Overcharger is great for CTF). Don't be afraid to eject early (just hit up on the D-Pad first) so that you can just launch over the buildings and back to your base.

- Parkour is your best friend. Especially on Lagoon with the ziplines. Your wallrunning and ziplining speed is so much greater than running normally that you can dance around enemies and fly by them. Once you figure out a good path to the base and back, you should be able to get to their flag and back to yours in about 45-75 seconds depending on the map size.

- Ignore your kills, ignore your deaths. They don't matter. Kill people in your way, and kill convenient grunts to reduce your Titan build time, but they don't directly help you win. So if a pilot you are shooting at runs away, let him. Just go on to the flag or play defense for yours. And don't try unnecessarily hard to regen your health and stay alive if you know it would be better and faster to die, respawn, and hit the ziplines.

- When playing defense, don't camp in the flag room. Make sure Radar Pulse is equipped, and hang out NEAR the flag room, but not in it. Radar Pulse can show the enemies as they run up (however, cloaked enemies don't glow red until they come out of cloak) plus the game tells you if the flag is taken. Kill them, return the flag and enjoy your bonus 350 XP.

- Where Burn Cards are concerned, the best burn cards in my opinion are Decisive Action/Pull Rank (and the instant Titan cards if you feel like using them) and the Adrenaline/Prosthetic Legs cards. Runner ups go to the enhanced tactical ability cards and Map Hack.

- Most of the games I played were with a team of randoms, but remember to support your team. Somebody has the flag? Play bodyguard. Move in pairs if possible. Most of all, TALK TO YOUR TEAMMATES. Let them know where people are coming from, let them know your attack plan, etc.

EDIT: Also, Satchel Charges are amazing. Their explosion radius is actually pretty large. Throw them in the room with flag or the flag campers' spots, create boom and enjoy experience. Radar Pulse and Satchel Charges together is even better.

CTF is also an amazing way to level faster thanks to all the XP boosts. Capping the flag nets you 500 XP, returning the flag gets you XP, and killing a flag carrier gets you XP. If anybody thinks my tips are bad or thinks I missed something big, leave a comment and let me know instead of just negative voting. We can work together to come up with better strategies so TAers will be the best at winning!

EDIT: They nerfed the XP you get from a flag return and flag carrier kills, but I have yet to go in and check for the new XP totals.

Upvote from me. Good tips and Strategies here. Some of it is common sense but it's nice to be reminded of it. Radar pulse is an excellent tip IMO; I often stick with cloak but your points on why pulse is better make a lot of sense. Nice job!

I roll with a away from base defense, everytime i die i have the arc mines and throw two at the flag, so if you find yourself as a flag runner consistently dying its because your playing me and im ocd about the arc mine near my flag. :)

^^^^and that's another good reason to throw satchel chargers around the enemy flag room. To blow up cheap shit like that. =)

I hate this game mode with a passion. I've played 15 games and won......none. I've resorted to being the asshole where if we go a couple of flags down I just quit rather then waste my time.

Is anyone having trouble unlocking this achievement? It has been stuck at 96% for days now. I know I have won way over 50 matches but it still won't unlock. I did a system reset and have won a considerable amount of matches but still no achievement. Please help.

For those of you stuck at a certain percentage, I ran into the same issue with my Pilot Hunter achievement when I was stuck at 92%. I just waited a couple days and it fixed itself, honestly. I don't have a solution that will work immediately though.

Put the explosives perk on so you get three instead of two, Then equip the satchels and Dead Man's Trigger. Plant the satchels around the flag on defense or on the entry/exits. When the opposite team comes in to take the flag even if they win the duel with you and kill you, the dead man's trigger will explode all three satchels at once and they will die as well along with any other of their teammates near the room.

You can no longer carry or pick up the flag while in a titan. Likewise you cannot return your teams flag by running over it in your titan, you will need to disembark first. The only thing your titan is good for now is playing body guard/distraction, or hitching a ride on someone elses to get back to your flag faster.

If you are carrying the flag and get into your titan you will drop it on the ground (I did it at least 3 times before i realised what was happening)

For some reason, my achievements aren't tracking my CTF wins... Rather annoying! Guess I'll just wait a few days, see what happens..

I wish people realized that if a friendly Titan keeps trying to get right next to you, it's an invitation for you to hitch a ride so they can dash over to your base and get you there quicker. Or the opposite, where if a flag carrier is on your back, to get to the base ASAP.

this really is the devil of game modes, i hate it.

i suck as a flag runner so i always guard it, but it seems like the enemy team always wins 1-0 because of this, when i get killed once whilst killing 30 enemies and i am the only ne guarding it.
always get paired with the shittiest players and the opponent seems to have the best flag runners in the world

It's probably the most stupid question ever asked, but what are you supposed to do when you've got the opponent's flag and have ran back to your own flag?

Got the opposing flag, ran back to my own flag and ran circles around it, before getting killed after 30 sec of me not knowing what to do next cry

Just got this achievement, man, it took the longest of the 50 win cheevos I have so far, when you get with a good team who knows what their doing, STAY WITH THEM. The last 10 wins I had I was pushing 4 caps a game, once you become familiar with the flag lines and faster routes it becomes natural to ignore the battles and just move the flag. Also the arc mines are still beast for away from the flag defense I get so many kills with them it's ridiculous. Although a good counter point would be satchel charges OR the smart pistol, it autolocks on the mines and satchels for the people who know what their doing in the game. Wallrunning, adrenaline transfusion, and titans all help, try camping near the enemy flag when your titans is almost built, call it in near you and grab the flag with ~2 seconds to fall, that'll get you headed to capping more frequently. Or stick wi a higher prestige and watch his lines he runs, it's how I learned. Keep to the ziplines and away from the fights as mentioned above, also use camo on the zip lines and even when u have the flag, that way the AI won't shoot at you!

You must win 50 CTF matches, joining in the middle of a winning match you do get a win.

The first method I will say is if you want to get this by playing normally and get 50 wins while going for the objective. I have been doing this method for a bit and it seems to be the best if you don't want to join any boosting sessions.

What I did was join a match and if my team was winning I stayed, but once my team loses, I would leave and search again. I have won about 10 in a row with a group because I stayed with people who actually cared about getting the flag or defending it, other than people who are looking for kills (or just are bad at the game, no offense to those who are) but that is why im making this guide to help ALL get this achievement!

Now once you found a winning game and keep playing until they lose, I would recommend guarding the flag, and one of the best tools to use is the ARC mine, just place 2 next to the flag and sit in a corner looking at the flag. Usually people try to run in there as fast as possible to grab the flag so just use your weapon of choice to kill them, and do the best you can. Make sure to always drop your titan and use your burn cards to your advantage.

[BOOSTING METHOD]

This other method can be a bit annoying but it is the fastest especially if you get it going.

Trueachievements has boosting sessions if you go into the boosting session category (or add this game to your boost list) If you host a session, just follow this guide and you will get some fast wins. Create a party and get 6 of the people in it, then create another party and get the other 5 in it, (12 people in a session 3 as back-ups) Have 1 person be the party leader and control that group as you control the other.

Once this is done, both leaders change their servers to JAPAN WEST in the Main menu, then invite everyone in your parties to the games.

When both groups have 6 people in both groups, just search on CTF at the same time running into each other. Once you find each other and the game starts, the team losing first just back out. Once back on the menu, start searching again to run into the group again and alternate wins.

Note: According to Snowed she encountered a problem with running into each other. The solution to that problem was everyone searching and running into each other individually. The only problem I can say about doing this method is the teams will be always random and you cannot make it completely fair to taking turns on the wins.

Any questions or comments? Please comment or send me a message, good luck and have fun! toast

Your boosting method isn't guaranteed to work. We got occasionally matched against other boosting groups, but our teams of 6 (after we spent an hour finally getting them together) could not match with eachother. We tried Japan and Korea servers - it would put both teams in a new match by themselves waiting for another team to show up. We tried different gametypes and campaign. Same thing.

It did work when we broke it up and queued up solo. You might want to incorporate that.

@Snowed I have done this with multiple groups and have NEVER had a problem running into each other...... I don't know what you guys were doing wrong but I have never had that happen. I will incorporate that into the solution so I do thank you for that.

I just want to say I absolutely hate ctf more than anything else lol. Only played like 4 matches so far but lost all of them horribly.

If your not matching up make sure each party is a different team when searching, it will not match you up if you are both militia.

You can boost wins with just two people, there’s a way to make it go much faster where both players can get the win and it can be done for all Game modes except for Last Titan Standing (this is because LTS has rounds and the game gets abandoned after 2 rounds rather than issuing a win to anyone).

Both Players set their Servers to Japan West. Both Players then search for whatever Game mode you’re boosting. The lobby will take a while to start but eventually the game will load a map.

Before the game begins, one Player selects the other Player’s name in the lobby, press cn_A to bring up the Xbox menu where you view the Player’s profile. Select “Join Game/Party” and hover over “Join Game”. When the timer gets down to 2 seconds, confirm to join the game.

The Game should load the map but will take longer as its transferring you to the other team. When the Game loads, both Players should be on the same team. After 40 seconds, the Game will end as you have no opponents, earning both Players the win.

When the Game goes back into the lobby, one Player must leave dropping back to the Multiplayer menu. Repeat the search again and you’ll end up on opposite teams again. Repeat the process for all the wins you need.

Every now and then, we had instances where the lobby would “break” and I’d get kicked to the Main Menu and I’d get the message “Failed to join game”. When this happens, whoever was left in the game, remain in the Game to get the win (after the 40 seconds) and go back to the game lobby.

That lobby will then always kick you out if you try to join the Game again, so both Players must leave and start searching again to make a new lobby.

Credit goes to Tide44 and his solution for how to get wins in Pilot Hunter (where I found this method). I just wanted to make this solution/method more widespread.

You need to be on the winning team of a Capture the Flag match 50 times. Note that for the "I've Seen It All" achievement, you also need to play Capture the Flag on every non-DLC map at least once, and for various DLC achievements you will need to play this game mode on every DLC map as well.

This achievement can be tracked in the Player Stats -> Levels screen, although it shows win counts by map so you will have to scroll through all 24 maps and add up the total yourself. You also can look at the achievement app where each 2% equals one win.

Boosting Method:
Create a two player game on one of the Asian servers and as soon as both players have spawned you can have one player quit, giving a victory to the other player. There will be a small delay of about 30 seconds before the victory screen appears, but at that point the other player can rejoin the lobby. Rinse and repeat. Each victory will take approximately five minutes with the lobby delays and loading screens.

Non-Boosting Method:
You are much more likely to win in a competitive Capture the Flag match if you have a few teammates that have mics and coordinate. Put one or two people on defense, and one or two on offense, and communicate with each other. You cannot score if your flag is not at your base, so it is important to keep your flag from being captured. The various US servers usually have a fair number of players in the Capture the Flag playlist. If you find a team that works well, try to stick with them by inviting them into your party in the game itself, otherwise the players will get redistributed for balance after each match.
