How to unlock the Ride 'Em Cowboy achievement in Titanfall - Definitive Guide

Ride 'Em Cowboy

External image

To jump on a titan (Rodeo them) you have to get close to them and jump on them with the A button. Once you are on them you can shoot the hell out of the wiring and it will go into doom mode, you will unlock the achievement after the match has finished. smile

Note: Sidewinder anti-titan weapon will kill you (or any anti-titan weapon) if you try to use that while shooting the wires.

According to peoples responses, it must be a manned titan, and they cannot eject, if they eject you will not get the achievement.

Have fun and Good luck! toast

My achievement did not unlock until the game had finished and post-game stats were displayed.

Also I did this on a auto titan and no achievement so I guess it needs to be manned.

Also tried to use the sidewinder anti-titan weapon to do more damage and that actually kills you while damaging the titan.

@DJ did you kill the titan? If you jump on the back and shoot doesn't mean you will get the kill. Thanks for the info about the Sidewinder info

Also lists in my stats that I have four rodeo kills. But they are never manned or the pilot gets out before I get the final hit in.

I've done this multiple times as well (Doomed the titan) and it didn't unlock. I wonder if it has to do with the pilot ejecting to safety or staying in and dieing as well? Or maybe it depends on whether or not teammates are shooting at it and damaging it as well.

It popped last night after doing it a couple more times. Im not sure what I did differently that made it finally pop, but it took several tries are 2 days to get it.

May be worth nothing it unlocks after the game has been completed, not during the game. I rodeo killed several of them, and after the game was completed, it unlocked immediately.

Yes I doomed the Titan and got the points, I have also rodeo-ed a Titan with a pilot and killed it after the pilot got out to get me off and no Achievement. Almost had this yesterday on a flag carrier in a Titan because I figured they wouldn't get out to kill me but one of my friends hit him at the last second taking away the kill cry . Anyone able to confirm or maybe I am experiencing a glitch?

I had a pretty tough time getting this, since every pilot immediately jumps out right when you jump on.

Here are some general tips:
1. I wouldn't worry about this achievement until you unlock the Spitfire LMG at level 39. That gun makes it WAY easier because of the large ammo capacity of the gun, so you wont have to reload as often, AND.....

2. If you kill 15 pilots with the LMG, you unlock the "Slammer" attachment, which does more damage to rodeo'd titans. This makes it a LOT easier to dispatch them quickly.

3. You have to ensure the pilot doesnt eject or get out (auto-titans dont count). I recommend finding an enemy titan who is already engaged in combat with other titans... preferably outnumbered. They'll usually be too busy to notice or care, since they're probably going to die anyway and jumping out would mean instant death. Use your Cloak to approach the fight.

4. Watch out for titans with the red glowy shield on their backs. These cannot be rodeo'd and you'll usually end up getting "stepped on" when trying to jump at them.

5. If you're having trouble with people jumping out, try jumping on a titan's back, tearing off the plate, then jumping off. Subsequent rodeos on that titan will skip the plate tearing animation and you get right into shooting it immediately.

If you get the final shot in to "doom" the titan, you'll get the "Brain Surgeon" challenge complete. That means success, even if the achievement doesn't pop right away. It should pop at the end of the round... though mine didn't pop until midway through the next game.

This can be done at any point. The trick is to jump onto the back of a Titan and once the animation of ripping the back plate off is done, you then need to fire into the spot. Once the health is depleted and the explosion countdown started jump off the back.

Simple - Just double jump onto the back of a titan, and after the short animation of ripping a metal plate off, unload your primary or secondary metal into the wires to quickly chew off a titans health. Once the titan is doomed, the chievo should pop at the end of the game.

NOTE - Many human controlled titans, when noticed they are being rodeo'd will jump out their titan and attempt to shoot you off the back, so be prepared to quickly jump back off the titan and kill the opposing pilot on the ground. Then you have a much easier rodeo kill on an auto-titan.

To "rodeo" a Titan refers to jumping on an enemy Titan. A "rodeo-kill" is when you subsequently use a pistol, primary anti-pilot weapon, or Charge Rifle to shoot the innards of the Titan and doom it. As a pilot, it is often faster to kill a Titan via rodeo because you bypass the shields. Note that if the Titan has electric smoke as part of its equipment, you can be killed very quickly.

You will need to get 50 rodeo-kills to progress from generation 6 to generation 7, so there is no need to focus on this achievement by itself. If for some reason you haven't done so before that point, you will definitely unlock during generation 6.

Frontier Defense is a great mode to play if you are trying to get rodeo-kills as there are a lot of Titans, very few of whom have electric smoke. It is feasible to get 20-30 rodeo-kills in a single game of Frontier Defense.
